Chapter 316: Chapter 316: The Irreplaceable Bond Between Mother and Child

On the way back, Yolanda Greenwood hired a driver for her car, and the group got into Noah Coldson’s car.

"How about hiring another caregiver?" Noah couldn’t help suggesting, knowing that taking care of a patient with Alzheimer’s requires significant effort.

"No, absolutely not." Yolanda quickly declined and glanced at Jaxon Greenwood beside her. "My father is calm most of the time now. He only got upset earlier because I forced him to visit the cemetery."

She seriously reassured Noah, "I can handle this myself. I will take good care of them—there’s really no need for another caregiver."

Noah pondered and then said, "Should we consider getting you a new house?"

Indeed, the house where they lived was too small to accommodate a caregiver. He thought it might be better to first find a bigger house and then hire one.

"No need, big brother, I truly don’t need anything right now." Yolanda spoke with sincerity. "Big brother, I’m doing well now. If you act against my wishes, I’ll be upset."

"Alright, I understand," Noah realized she genuinely didn’t want it. "Let me know when you feel you need help."

"Don’t worry, I will." Yolanda finally breathed a sigh of relief. She really didn’t want to trouble Noah further.

After returning home, Yolanda stayed with Noah for lunch. During the meal, Noah took the opportunity to ask, "How about it? Do you want to go and see Little Gabriel?"

"Sure," Yolanda eagerly agreed.

In the afternoon, while Noah accompanied Jaxon Greenwood watching television, he waited until Jaxon dozed off before setting out with Yolanda.

He even offered the Postpartum Doula a bonus to take care of Jaxon when the children were away.

On the way, Noah mulled over the situation and felt it wasn’t right. "Yolanda, you really can’t manage this on your own. No, you must listen to me and switch to a bigger house."

"Big brother, truly, it’s not necessary," Yolanda helplessly replied, then added, "I’m currently arranging for a good nursing home for my father. I’ll send him there later."

Noah stared at her suspiciously, doubtful that Yolanda could bring herself to do it. "Really?"

"Yes," Yolanda’s tone was firm. "Even if I can’t bear to, it’s not fair to keep troubling Lola, as we’re living together. I’ve decided to find a good welfare institution."

Noah half-believed her. "Alright, then let me help you find some options."

"No need..." Yolanda instinctively tried to refuse, but then changed her mind. "Alright, you can help me pick a few good ones. I’ll contact them myself. Thanks."

Noah accepted her response and didn’t press further.

When they arrived at the old house, they found it empty except for Isabella Ross, who was there with Little Gabriel.

"Come in, come in," Isabella greeted enthusiastically upon seeing Yolanda holding a child. "Gabriel is inside. He just fell asleep, and the Postpartum Doula is watching him."

As she spoke, her eyes fixed unblinkingly on the little one in Yolanda’s arms. "Is that Ella? She’s smiling at me?"

She proudly turned to Noah and Yolanda, "Did you see that? Ella’s smiling at me—she recognizes me as her grandma."

"Would you like to hold her?" Yolanda asked softly.

"Can I?" Isabella was overjoyed, worried that Yolanda might bear a grudge against them because Cooper had taken her son.

"Yes, just be careful," Yolanda gently passed her daughter to Isabella.

"Oh my, Ella and Gabriel look so alike, but when you really look closely, they’re completely different." Isabella examined Yolanda thoughtfully and said, "Your son resembles you a bit more, while your daughter takes after Cooper."

Yolanda whispered, "I’d like to go see Gabriel."

"Alright, I’ll take you. He just fell asleep, so let’s be quiet." Isabella cradled Little Ella joyfully, lightly teasing her as she walked. "This little girl loves to smile—she’s so charming."

Yolanda curled her lips slightly and said tenderly, "Yes, she’s been smiling ever since she was born."

Noah quickly spoke with pride, "Sister Hall and the nurses from the maternity ward were all so fond of her."

"Such an adorable and sweet little girl—who wouldn’t like her?" Isabella echoed the sentiment with pride.

Entering the room, they found Little Gabriel asleep in the crib. His closed eyes and long lashes cast shadows over his cheeks.

The little boy did indeed resemble Ella but also had distinct differences. His mouth and chin clearly took after Yolanda.

Yolanda gazed at him and instantly burst into tears of joy. She covered her mouth, afraid to wake him.

"Don’t do that." Isabella noticed Little Ella start to get uneasy in her arms and hurriedly said, "Blood ties last a lifetime. Even if the child isn’t by your side, you can always come back to see him."

"Aunt Ross," Yolanda pleaded, looking at her with desperation, "Please let me take Gabriel with me, okay?"

"No way." Isabella avoided her gaze, her tone unwavering as she looked down.

"I’m begging you!" Yolanda immediately knelt down. "You’re a mother too—you should understand how I feel. I can’t be apart from my son, not even for a second."

"Get up!" Isabella snapped at Noah. "Help her up right now."

Noah remained motionless and said, "Mom, Cooper isn’t here right now. Please let us take Gabriel with us. You can visit them anytime in the future."

"No, it’s absolutely impossible!" Isabella sharply raised her voice. "Cooper will be back soon."

She had already notified Cooper as soon as Yolanda arrived with Ella.

Just then, Little Gabriel suddenly opened his eyes, clearly awakened by the commotion.

Isabella hastily added, "Get up—Gabriel’s awake."

Yolanda saw Isabella’s resolve wouldn’t change, and reluctantly got to her feet. She wiped away her tears and smiled warmly at Little Gabriel.

"Gabriel, are you awake?" Yolanda carefully lifted her son from the crib. "Gabriel, do you recognize Mommy?"

The Postpartum Doula, standing behind them, chuckled and said, "It seems the little lord does recognize his mother. He got woken up but isn’t throwing a fit."

That much was true. Gabriel was normally very quiet but had a habit of crying a bit every time he woke up. Being woken was usually even worse.

Yet now, he simply observed Yolanda intently without a single tear.

"Gabriel? Are you still half-asleep?" Yolanda found his expression endearing and gently touched his tiny cheek. "Gabriel, I’m Mommy—Mommy!"

She repeatedly told him that she was his mother, afraid he might not remember her.

Suddenly, Little Gabriel seemed to understand her, letting out soft, cooing sounds.

The Postpartum Doula exclaimed again, "That’s amazing! This child hardly ever tries to talk—this is the first time I’ve heard him respond like this."

Isabella shot the Postpartum Doula a warning glare to silence her.

But deep down, she understood as well—no bond could replace a mother’s connection to her child.

Watching the scene unfold, she deeply wished Yolanda wouldn’t go through with divorcing Cooper.
