Chapter 224: Chapter 224: His Ex-Wife Does Not Exist
Yolanda Greenwood didn’t know she had to inspect the site locations until she arrived at the office, leaving her no time to change her shoes.
Although Candy and Leah Diaz wore even higher heels than her, employees at fashion companies generally paid a lot of attention to these things. The problem was Yolanda was pregnant, but she felt it should be fine.
However, Cooper Coldson had not lied; most of the locations selected by their company were at the foothills, ecologically favorable but difficult to navigate.
Just viewing the first site location, Yolanda Greenwood had twisted her ankle several times.
"Yolanda," Leah whispered to her from behind, "why don’t you go back first?"
"It’s okay, I can manage," Yolanda didn’t want to miss this opportunity.
"Alright," Leah smiled, "but be careful. If you can’t handle it, head back, I’ve taken notes and will share them with you later."
"Okay, thanks Sister Leah." The two of them were getting closer and their relationship was growing stronger.
After finishing at the first location, they headed to the second.
Cooper Coldson and his team took one car up front, and Tala’s employees followed in another.
Halfway through, Cooper’s car stopped outside a mall, where a woman who looked like a secretary went in and bought three pairs of shoes for Yolanda and the others.
"Put these on," the woman, in her thirties and casually glancing over Yolanda’s face before settling on Candy, said, "President Coldson mentioned that the next few locations will be even more challenging to walk, so he told me to get you all some shoes. Could you try them to see if they fit?"
Yolanda had a hunch that this was related to her, and she smiled sheepishly.
The shoes bought for her were a perfect fit, and she hurriedly nodded in gratitude, "Thanks, they fit well."
Candy and Leah also confirmed their shoes fit well and continuously thanked the woman until she was reassured and left.
As soon as the car door closed, Leah’s face showed a desire to cry, "These shoes are a bit big."
Candy smiled, "Mine are small."
Both looked towards Yolanda.
"Mine are quite right," not only did the shoes fit perfectly in size, but they were from a brand she always preferred and liked.
"But no matter, this Cooper Coldson might look cold, but he’s quite considerate," Leah switched to the other shoe and despite it being oversized, it was more comfortable than her high heels.
She put her own shoes into a box and said happily, "This brand isn’t cheap, Coldson is really generous."
Candy nodded and simply remarked, "He’s indeed a charming fellow."
Their group continued to the second site location, and on the way, Leah quietly chatted with Yolanda.
"Do you really not know this Cooper?" Her confusion was apparent.
Yolanda tugged at her lips awkwardly; there were some personal memories she didn’t want to dwell on.
"I’ll tell you," Leah said mysteriously, "he’s Melissa Greenwood’s fiancé."
Yolanda was slightly surprised to learn that Leah knew this.
Leah continued, "Melissa is indeed lucky. She had a very loving boyfriend here, and once she returned home, she got herself a rich and handsome man. She’s not simple."
"You mean... Melissa had a boyfriend here?" This was indeed surprising to Yolanda.
"Yes," Leah nodded, "They were apparently living together. You don’t know, but Melissa was also considered a ’Bai Fumei’ in our circle, and many guys wanted to pursue her, though I only heard about it."
"Lived together?" Yolanda secretly doubted; if true, then what were Melissa’s true intentions towards Cooper?
Leah nodded again, her demeanor suggesting she was holding back more information.
Unable to contain her curiosity, Yolanda probed, "What else?"
"I heard," Leah emphasized again, "just heard, that Melissa had a child with that man."
"Impossible?" Yolanda was genuinely shocked.
She distinctly recalled Copper saying Melissa couldn’t get pregnant, which had convinced him further that Melissa was the young girl from the past.
Now, considering everything, Melissa’s sudden move abroad also seemed strange. Could it have been because of another man, or even because she was pregnant with someone else’s child?
Yolanda dared not think further. Glancing ahead at the other car, she felt a sense of irony that if Coldson was deceived, he perhaps... deserved it!
She certainly felt no sympathy for him.
"I don’t know if it’s true," Leah shook her head, "but certainly, at many parties and award ceremonies here, your works were featured, but Melissa never attended."
She reminisced a bit, "I eventually forgot about her until I heard she got engaged to Coldson."
"And Yolanda, you know what?" Leah gritted her teeth again, "Apparently Coldson was married before, but no one can find any record of this woman online, no one knows who his ex-wife is."
"Really?" Yolanda awkwardly wanted to escape the conversation.
Leah nodded emphatically, "I think the ex-wife was also a victim, probably had her man stolen."
Yolanda didn’t respond.
She could tell Leah truly disliked Melissa.
Then, Leah glanced at Yolanda’s shoes, "You really don’t know Cooper?"
Yolanda remained silent.
Leah continued, "I noticed you have a few pairs from this brand. I think Coldson buying us shoes today was because of your influence."
"How could that be?" Yolanda quickly denied, "We benefited from Candy’s influence."
Leah just smiled, seeming confident in her assessment.
The rest of the day went smoothly. Cooper and Candy seemed to get along well, with Candy expressing satisfaction with the Coldson Group’s site selections. At the end of the day, Candy suggested inviting the Coldson team for a meal.
Yolanda and Leah were naturally included in the invitation.
The group went to a restaurant where Candy confidently ordered a few dishes before passing the menu to Coldson.
"Anything is fine, just order whatever you want," Coldson handed the menu to Yolanda sitting opposite him.
Yolanda passed the menu to Leah, "Sister Leah, why don’t you order? I’m okay with anything."
She was clearly trying to maintain her distance from Cooper.
Cooper seemed indifferent, but suddenly his phone rang. He glanced at it and then excused himself to answer the call.
"Cooper," Melissa Greenwood’s voice came from the other end of the line, "are you done? What shall we eat tonight?"
"We’re finished, the client’s head invited us for a meal, so I won’t be coming home to join you tonight," Cooper leaned against the wall, his tone professional.
"Oh, all right," Melissa sounded slightly disappointed, "then enjoy your meal, I’ll eat with a friend who has been wanting to meet up."
"Okay, stay safe, and call me if you need anything," Cooper ended the call, his expression decidedly guilty.
He had just... lied.
