Entangled with My Cousin's Fiancé
Chapter 126: Do You Regret It Now?

Chapter 126: Chapter 126: Do You Regret It Now?

She never expected the old lady to explode in an instant.

With her hands on her hips, she pointed at Lola Gold and began scolding fiercely, "You little bitch, just like your white-eyed wolf mother, you’re no good!"

Yolanda Greenwood and Lola Gold were shocked stiff on the spot.

"Born with a pretty face, yet you can’t even hold onto a man; serves you right to be deceived and dumped, worthless trash!" the old lady continued to rant, "So young, yet not learning good things, talking back to me, not afraid of being struck by lightning."

For the first time, Lola Gold experienced the feeling of being speechless, of being pointed at and cursed right in the face.

She suddenly understood why Ruby Ross hadn’t come home for so many years and refused to have any contact with the family.

She looked apologetically at Yolanda Greenwood.

Yolanda Greenwood shook her head, then went over to try to calm the old lady down, "Grandma, Lola meant no harm; please don’t be angry anymore."

Clearly in a fit of rage, the old lady was clutching her chest, gasping for breath. If Lola Gold had talked back at this moment, she probably would’ve fallen to the ground.

"Let’s go!" Lola Gold pulled Yolanda Greenwood’s hand and was ready to go back to fetch their things, "Let’s go, we’re not staying here."

"Get lost, just get lost!" the old lady sat down with a thud and began howling, "I’ve really sinned, raising you ungrateful mother and daughter..."

Lola Gold was truly stunned, witnessing firsthand what it meant for an aggressor to complain first.

At that moment, Ruby Ross apparently heard the commotion outside and emerged, pale-faced.

Yolanda Greenwood quickly nudged Lola Gold.

So, Lola Gold went to comfort Ruby Ross, "Mom, why did you come out?"

Ruby Ross, with red eyes, looked at the old lady sitting on the ground but remained silent.

Yolanda Greenwood then went to help the old lady up, "Grandma, it’s cold on the floor; get up quickly. Lola really meant no disrespect; please don’t be sad anymore."

"I’m seventy years old, one foot in the grave. Why do I still have to put up with this?" the old lady was relentless.

Ruby Ross took a step forward.

Lola Gold quickly supported her, "Mom, go back to your room, I’ll apologize to Grandma."

Lola Gold had no particular affection for the old lady, but she couldn’t let her mother be hurt.

Ruby Ross shook her head at her and then stopped in front of the old lady, "Mom..."

When she began to speak, her voice choked up, "Are you trying to force us to leave?"

The old lady’s crying stopped abruptly, her eyes on Ruby Ross now filled with hesitation and struggle.

Seeing this, Yolanda Greenwood quickly helped the old lady up, "Grandma, let me help you back to your room to rest."

"Rest what?" the old lady shoved Yolanda Greenwood away and proceeded to continue cooking, "George will be back soon. If the meal isn’t ready, what will he eat?"

This action once again refreshed the understanding of Yolanda Greenwood and Lola Gold.

"Come inside!" Ruby Ross called the two of them into the room.

She looked at the two children with a bit of apology, "Did it scare you?"

"No." Yolanda Greenwood immediately forced a smile, "Aunt Ross, we’re fine."

"Yeah, no big deal." Lola Gold sat beside Ruby Ross and acted spoiled, "Mom, haven’t you seen me scold people in the live stream? I’m way fiercer there, really, you can ask Yolanda?"

"Indeed." Yolanda Greenwood shook her head helplessly and sat on the other side of Ruby Ross.

"I was just saying, where did my talent come from, I’ve never seen you scold anyone, Mom." Lola Gold chuckled twice, "Turns out it’s a gift skipped a generation, I should thank Grandma for that."

"You cheeky girl..." Ruby Ross felt a rush of emotion and her eyes reddened in an instant.

"Mom," Lola Gold rested her head gently on Ruby Ross’s shoulder, "Has Grandma always been like this? When you were little... did she scold you too?"

Ruby Ross let out a wry laugh, "Yeah, your Grandma always favored your uncle, she thought of Mom as a burden, so back then, marrying your Dad was also about escaping this home, fleeing from here."

Lola Gold and Yolanda Greenwood furrowed their brows with empathy.

Ruby Ross took both children’s hands, "But it turns out, I was wrong, they say marriage is a woman’s second rebirth, and there’s some truth to that, with our first birth, we don’t get to choose, but with this second one..."

She patted their hands, "You must be very careful."

"Mom," Lola Gold’s voice carried a sob, "Do you regret it now?"

"Silly child, Mom doesn’t regret," Ruby Ross’s voice was tinged with joy, "Having you now, all that happened in the past doesn’t matter anymore."

The tears Lola Gold had been holding back finally breached at that moment.

She buried her face in Ruby Ross’s shoulder, gently hugging her.

Yolanda, too, was touched, looking down at her own belly, she seemed more resolved than ever to have the child and more aware of what these two children meant to her.

After the two went out, Lola Gold pulled Yolanda to leave, "Let’s go for a walk."

"Where are we heading?" the old lady yelled, "George will be back soon and dinner will start, no one’s waiting for you!"

Yolanda helpless, "Are we not going to help?"

"Help my ass!" Lola Gold said through gritted teeth, "Let her work herself to the bone, serves her right!"

To tell the truth, Lola Gold did feel sorry for the old lady when she first arrived, seeing her bustling about in her seventies.

But now she saw it clearly, the old lady favored sons over daughters, she brought it upon herself.

The River South town after the rain was especially beautiful, with mist everywhere, like a fairyland, and the air was filled with a faint smell of earth, refreshing and rejuvenating.

"Yolanda," Lola Gold said apologetically, taking Yolanda Greenwood’s hand, "It’s my fault, I dragged you over here without fully understanding the family situation."

She had more contact with George Ross and had only greeted the old lady a few times, and Ruby Ross had never mentioned these things, she truly had no idea.

She really felt foolish now, provoked by Sunny Coldson’s words, she thought she couldn’t stay in Gray City a second longer.

"It’s okay, I think it’s pretty good here, I really like it," Yolanda didn’t mind.

A complete change of scenery gave her a sense of rebirth.

She said with a smile, "Plus, after Grandma’s fuss just now, I’ve completely put Cooper Coldson and Melissa Greenwood out of my mind, hahaha..."

They both suddenly burst into laughter. Lola Gold nodded in agreement, "Exactly, who is Christopher Coldson? And who is Sunny Coldson, even?"

She shrugged her shoulders, "Who cares? In front of Grandma, they’re nothing but dust."

Laughing their heads off, they unexpectedly met George Ross on his way home, and the three of them walked back together.

"Tomorrow, the developers are coming for negotiations."

George Ross brought up the development team’s affairs again, "The team leader handed this task over to me, and I’m a bit worried."

"That just shows the team leader thinks highly of uncle," Lola Gold winked at Yolanda, sharing a knowing smile.

"The main issue is I have no one to help me, and honestly, it’s my first time dealing with such a scenario," George Ross said, stopping to size up the two, "How about you two come with uncle tomorrow?"
