Chapter 111: Chapter 111 A Sense of Suffocation Like Never Before
Yolanda Greenwood’s eyes were red as she entered the hospital room.
Noah Coldson immediately noticed and walked over to ask in a hushed voice, "What happened? What did Cooper say?"
"Forget it," Yolanda lowered her voice, "Big brother, let’s just forget about me and Cooper Coldson."
She felt that she and Cooper really were not the same kind of people; Cooper was obviously too much of a businessman—cold-blooded, not fond of children, completely different from her.
Yet when she had fallen for him... he didn’t seem like that at all.
Yolanda remembered the first time she met Cooper; it was during her senior year of high school.
She wanted to attend a preparatory class at Gray City University, a university ranked among the top nationwide, especially distinguished in the field of arts.
At the time, Eliana Reed didn’t believe she could get into Gray City University—in Eliana’s eyes, only Melissa Greenwood was worthy of it.
So Eliana didn’t agree to let Yolanda attend the prep course, leaving Yolanda no choice but to work and save money herself.
Then one night after work, she was cornered in an alley by several drunkards, and it was Cooper who appeared out of nowhere to rescue her.
Yolanda would never forget that scene, her cowering in the corner, Cooper standing under the moonlight.
In that moment, she truly thought he was like a god.
Their next encounter was at Gray City University; only then did she learn that he was also a top student at the university, and her affection for him became uncontrollable.
Only, the corner was too dark that day, and Cooper didn’t know the person he saved was Yolanda—perhaps he once knew but had long since forgotten.
"Yolanda..." Noah obviously wanted to persuade her further, but seeing her slightly reddened eyes, he fell silent.
He gently patted Yolanda’s back and then turned to leave the hospital room.
Cooper was sitting on a bench in the hallway and glanced up as Noah came out, but quickly diverted his gaze.
"What’s the matter with you?" Noah stood opposite Cooper, looking down and questioning him, "What did you say to Yolanda?"
Cooper frowned and looked up at him, "What do you think I should have said? What’s the use of all the crying and fussing?"
"Use? And how do you come to decide what’s useful?" Noah gave a cold laugh, "In reality, many emotions are useless—fear, anger, love— they all just wear you down..."
"What are you trying to say?" Cooper straightened up, his expression impatient, "If you want to comfort her, go ahead."
"She’s your wife," Noah spat out through clenched teeth.
"Not for long," Cooper said with a dismissive air.
Noah grabbed his collar in a rage, glaring at him.
Cooper struggled but couldn’t break free, then looked down and chuckled softly, "Big brother, I really don’t know what you’re thinking. You’ve been back in the country for only a few days, seen her a few times—do you understand her? Why are you so protective of her?"
The smile still played at his lips, but his gaze grew colder, "If big brother truly thinks she’s incomparable, then that’s great. We divorce, and you two get..."
Before he could finish the word "married," Noah’s punch landed, "You bastard!"
Noah was a soldier, and not just any soldier, but an international top-tier special forces operator; so even though he held back, that punch was still more than enough for Cooper to take.
Cooper’s head turned to one side, the taste of blood instantly filling his mouth, and almost simultaneously, he struck Noah back with his own punch.
"After disappearing for so many years, neglecting your family, now you come back and want to meddle in my personal affairs—you’re really doing your duty as an older brother."
Cooper looked at Noah furiously, his chest heaving intensely.
Noah didn’t dodge; he knew Cooper bore resentment towards him, and this punch was something he should take.
His emotions cooled slightly, and Noah looked at Cooper with a touch of emotion, "Cooper, I just don’t want you to have regrets later."
"You worry too much; I never regret."
Cooper Coldson had just finished speaking when he saw Yolanda Greenwood coming out of the ward.
She’d heard the commotion inside and as she came out she saw that both men were injured, with even blood at the corner of Cooper’s mouth.
"What happened? Why did you guys start fighting?" She instinctively wanted to run to Cooper but stopped herself just as she stepped forward.
Cooper only felt a buzz in his head, a sourness he couldn’t understand spreading in his chest.
In the end, Yolanda went towards Noah Coldson, "Brother, what happened?"
"It’s nothing, nothing." Noah shook his head, just as he saw Cooper turning to leave.
"Cooper," he called out to his retreating back, "think about what I said!"
Cooper left as if he was dragging his body, feeling an unprecedented suffocating sensation, as if what Noah had hit wasn’t his face but his heart.
Back in the car, he immediately arranged for Richard Reyes to schedule him a comprehensive physical examination.
Yolanda asked the hospital for an ice pack for Noah.
"Really, it’s nothing." Noah awkwardly tugged at the corner of his mouth, "Cooper has always held a grudge against me in his heart, maybe a good fight is just what he needed to get over it."
Yolanda was speechless, "Can’t we sit down and talk it out, why must there be a fight?"
"You women wouldn’t understand." Noah smiled, seemingly in a better mood.
Yolanda truly didn’t understand. Thinking about how Cooper had been hit, she inexplicably felt heartache.
Realizing she was being foolish again, she quickly shook her head to dispel these thoughts.
"Alright, it’s getting late, you should head back," Noah looked at the time, "Maria and Edmund, I’ll take care of them."
"I’m fine, I’m not tired," Yolanda didn’t want to leave.
"No, think about the baby in your belly, you can’t stay up," Noah then remembered something, "And, in a few days, can Lola accompany you to the prenatal checkup?"
"Sure." Yolanda agreed immediately, "Brother, you really don’t need to come with me every time, I can manage on my own."
A hint of disappointment crossed her face.
Sure enough, knowing that there might truly be no hope between her and Cooper, Noah’s attitude began to change.
Yolanda began to worry again, if she and Cooper divorced, would Noah let her keep the child?
"Alright, let’s get going, I’ll see you out to get a taxi." Noah insisted.
"Okay, then I’ll say goodbye to Edmund and Sister Stella." Yolanda waved at the door, and the two kids came out.
"Sister is going to go rest, Father Coldson will stay with you," she gently touched the children’s heads, "Don’t worry, Maria will be fine."
"Yeah, Sister Yolanda, you should head back, you must be exhausted today, we can take care of ourselves," Stella Sterling was the first to speak.
Edmund followed up, "Sister Yolanda, you’ve been a great help today, I thank you on behalf of Maria."
The two children were visibly disappointed to hear Yolanda was leaving, but they were so understanding, not only did they not try to keep her there, but they also kept thanking her, trying to reassure Yolanda.
Yolanda hugged the two little ones gently, "Alright, your sister is leaving now."
No sooner had she left than Noah Coldson confessed to the two children, "Your Sister Yolanda is pregnant, so she can’t stay up late."
"Really?" The previously disappointed pair’s eyes instantly brightened.
Noah nodded.
Little Edmund murmured enviously, "To be Sister Yolanda’s child must be very fortunate."
