Chapter 401: Chapter 401 The Second Meeting Concludes
"So we don’t have to pay taxes in the future?"
"If a new landlord arrives and I’m not here, everything stays the same. You can flatter them, pretend to be poor, and beg the lords to be merciful and give you a few months’ grace until the new crops are harvested before paying taxes, right?"
"Yes, absolutely." The village chief nodded repeatedly.
"Alright then, remember, look scared but don’t be scared in your heart; you’ve got someone backing you up."
"Oh, yes, yes, thank you, Great Witch. Thank you, everyone."
The village chief beamed with joy.
Ye Nai turned to the deputy ministers, "So, what do you think? Shall we go? It’s a countryside manor, very spacious, perfect for a large camp."
"Sure, let’s take a look."
"Come on, grab your own cup, and we’ll head straight to the living room."
Everyone picked up their cups, and Ye Nai collected the other items, bid the village chief farewell, and opened the Transmission Port to go through first.
As soon as she landed, she stored the unconscious servants on the ground into Space and then tossed them to the attic upstairs.
Just as she finished this, the others followed her through, completely unaware of her earlier sneaky actions.
"Oh, what a spacious living room."
"Sit, sit, sit, the sofas are clean; the maids clean them every day." Ye Nai warmly invited them, as if she were the owner here.
"Hey, this sofa really is comfortable, with good support, not sagging at all."
"We’re not heavy, of course, it feels supportive to us. They might find it soft when they sit."
"Hahaha~"
Even the lowest-class nobles strive for grandeur and width in their furniture as a status symbol. A long sofa that can seat five or six people easily feels like a high stool.
After everyone found a place to sit, they lifted their heads to look around.
"So this is what a noble’s living room looks like."
"If the furniture is moved, you could hold a ball here, right?"
"No, no, no, a Knight is the lowest class in the Nobles, without the means to host a ball. They can only have small gatherings with food and drink. Only Earls and above have the ability to host balls; their mansions have special banquet and dance halls, along with a small dining room for daily use by the family." Ye Nai, familiar with the Otherworld, quickly corrected their misconceptions.
"But isn’t the small dining room not really small?" someone questioned.
"Indeed, it’s not small. The small dining room contains a large dining table that seats over ten people, more than enough for a family meal or a private dinner party. It’s surrounded by decorations and furniture for servants to serve. A small dining room is equivalent to the size of an entire Ordinary residential home."
The group, having just visited the village, still remembered the villagers’ homes, and Ye Nai’s words gave them a clear idea of the grand mansions of nobles.
"Where are the hosts and the servants and guards?"
"The host’s family has been thrown into the Secret Realm, alongside the former Knight’s family. The servants are in the attic, and the guards are patrolling around the manor; they’re all knocked out, so no need to worry about them causing trouble. I’ll deal with them when they wake up."
"Alright, you have experience with this. You take care of it. We’ll look around some more to see how big this place is. If it’s suitable, we’ll station the troops here and use the Military Fortress for cultivating mushrooms. What do you two think?" Vice Minister Fan sought opinions from his colleagues.
"Sounds good, let’s check it out."
Su Cheng’s two deputy ministers agreed without objection, so they began to walk around again before they even warmed their seats.
Ye Nai herself was too lazy to move, but she took out her SUV, lemon-yellow car, motorcycle, and electric bike for them to use as transportation.
Camp Commander Lin and Vice Minister Fan and four others squeezed into the gleaming lemon-yellow car. Though the space was tight, it was just right for the four of them.
Vice Minister Su Cheng and his secretaries boarded the SUV, while two staff members used rock-paper-scissors to decide ownership of the motorcycle and electric bike. They then split into groups to roam around the expansive Knight Manor.
Mostly, they didn’t know how to drive tractors and other farming equipment, and learning now would take too much time. They were just visiting, so it wasn’t worth the effort.
Left with free time, Ye Nai returned to the grand living room, washed the teacups they left behind, then kicked off her shoes and lay back comfortably in the large sofa, setting a half-hour timer on her phone before closing her eyes for a nap.
Even though Knights are considered the lowest level in Noble Class, not even regarded as having entered the noble ranks, Knight Manors, due to their military functions, are spacious enough for horse riding and feature wide farming areas.
The four vehicles strolled and stopped around various places, taking about an hour to complete a circuit, allowing Ye Nai to nap peacefully. Plus, she had spores to monitor for her.
After half an hour, Ye Nai was awakened by an alarm. She connected with the spores outside and located her four vehicles, which had indeed reached the edge of the manor.
Ye Nai lazily rolled over on the sofa, took out her game console, and passed the time.
When the spores notified Ye Nai of their return, she paused her game and checked the time; an hour had already passed.
Ye Nai quickly tidied up, brought out a long table and tea bar cart to the transition area near the fireplace wall, and set the kettle to boil water.
As they stepped into the living room, the water was just coming to a boil.
"Oh, the three ministers returned together? What a coincidence! Would you like to sit down and rest for a while? The water just boiled." Ye Nai, holding her game console, smiled as she rose to greet them.
"No, no, we’ve just been sitting in the car for over an hour; no need to sit again." Vice Minister Fan waved his hand. "We gained a lot from this trip, and it’s time we headed back."
"Alright, are you heading straight to the underground warehouse?"
"Yes, directly back, but could you copy us the video material you showed us last time?"
"Sure, is one copy enough?"
"Two copies." Vice Minister Su from the Staff Department immediately raised his hand.
"Well, the Logistics Department can’t be left out." Vice Minister Cheng chuckled.
"Okay."
As soon as Ye Nai spoke, a Transmission Port slowly opened in front of them, and the long table and tea bar cart by the fireplace disappeared along with it.
Camp Commander Lin peeked through, waved, and then went through first.
The others followed, with Ye Nai bringing up the rear.
Once settled in the underground warehouse, Ye Nai restored the tables and chairs to their original place and placed the gifts of soy-braised pork and five leaf bags of Translation Mushrooms on the table.
She then set up her computer desk, first opening up the video material she had shown them a snippet of last time. She took out three brand-new, unopened memory cards and copied the data onto each before handing them to the three deputy ministers.
They carefully pocketed the memory cards, collected the other items, and proceeded to the exit together.
