Chapter 397: Chapter 397: The Second Meeting with the Higher-ups (10)

The group passed books around, but none of them could understand any of it. One was a romance novel, but the opening scene’s description left everyone dizzy. They stumbled through two pages, recognizing few words, and guessed it might be describing the wall decorations.

Someone else got a political book, but the long words and sentences inside quickly defeated them.

"Knowledge barrier, it’s truly a knowledge barrier."

"Does not understanding a few words mean we’ve eaten too little?"

"Exactly, it just means we’ve eaten too little, nothing else." Ye Nai, having finished her tasks, stopped and nodded.

"What level is your current proficiency at?"

"Around the level of daily notes and children’s storybooks. The vocabulary accumulated is enough for everyday conversations with people. Beyond that, there are popular novels, but I don’t read them. I’m determined not to. They all like to pile on fancy words, and I don’t have the patience to finish a single page."

"Alright, then we’re at the level of everyday conversation too. Those experts and scholars might be interested in more challenging books."

"Remind them to take it easy and not overeat, getting sick over it. Treat it like a homemade dish and eat it once in a while."

"Got it."

The group agreed wholeheartedly, then had the secretaries take photos of the first few pages of the books and send them back to those who had consumed Translation Mushroom for testing. Words aren’t enough; they must experience it themselves to truly understand.

After finishing, they placed the books back on the shelves. Ye Nai tidied up, and the group glanced at the time, realizing it was still early.

"Huh? It’s only just after three?"

"Want to go take a look at the Otherworld? Spend a few hours there, and only a few minutes will have passed here." Ye Nai tempted them.

"Of course! Definitely want to go." Everyone laughed.

"Where should we go? The Royal Capital of Selsa, or the logistics camp we visited last time?"

"Is there a safe place in the Royal Capital?"

"The Royal Palace is safe unless the people decide to burn it down."

"Is it that chaotic? Is there not a single official managing the Royal Capital?"

"No, from what I heard last time, any family with some capability has left. They either spent money or the men joined the army and the women got married off. But the Royal Palace is beautifully built, opulent, yet barely anyone besides a few cleaning servants and soldiers. It’s desolate, with some halls having had their roofs collapse and rebuilt."

"What? Why rebuild an uninhabited palace so beautifully? Is the Royal Family wasting resources while trying to take over our Blue Star?"

"Now you’re making me curious about how beautiful that palace is. Can we directly get to the Royal Palace?"

"Yes. Do you want to go? If so, I’ll pack up."

"Yes, yes, let’s go to that palace."

The table was already cleared, with used disposable tableware thrown into the large trash can, and leftover food stored in Space. The Translation Mushroom they took, along with a big box of soy sauce braised meat, was left on the table; it wouldn’t get lost.

The group, now free-handed, took out their phones and turned on the flashlights.

Ye Nai packed everything into Space and opened the Transmission Port. She first poked her head through to take a look.

"The Royal Palace seems fine. Is landing in the Council Hall okay? It’s the place where the King and his ministers meet. It’s been idle for the longest time and is the dustiest, always locked up without even the maids for cleaning."

"Sure, let’s start there."

"Is it day or night over there?" Camp Commander Lin timely reminded.

"It’s dark, but there’s a hint of white on the horizon; no idea if it’s about to get light or just got dark."

"If the table lamps aren’t bright enough, there’s a built-in light on the outdoor power source. Just turn that on, but don’t turn on the big tent lights." Camp Commander Lin quickly added, emphasizing his main point.

"Understood, give me a moment, I’ll call you once I’ve got everything set up."

Ye Nai finished speaking and walked completely through the Transmission Port, standing in the dusty Council Hall.

Her first reaction was to put on a mask against the dust, then set down the long table. The table lamp proved too dim, so she turned on the small lights that came with the outdoor power source.

The brightness was barely adequate.

Mainly because the Council Hall is a crucial building of the Royal Palace, broad in area with windows near the ceiling. Big, wide high windows that provide daylight, preventing assassination. Enemies on the ground can’t peep inside.

So, the brightness from this one outdoor power source and few lamps couldn’t even reach the windowsills, only lighting up the area around the table, leaving shadows everywhere.

After finishing in a few minutes, she crossed back through the Transmission Port to call them over. For Vice Minister Fan and the others, it seemed like Ye Nai had just disappeared and now returned, not even a second apart.

"That was quick?"

"Time difference is really interesting."

Ye Nai pulled out a whole box of masks and handed one to each person.

"Put these on. A few years passed over there, and the hall is covered in dust."

"Should we relocate outside instead? By the way, what season is it over there now?"

"The season is fine, pleasantly cool. Maybe it’s autumn." Ye Nai finished distributing the masks and put the rest away, "Do we switch to outside?"

"No, no, for now let’s not. Suddenly having lights show up within the abandoned Royal Palace grounds after a few years might draw the locals. Let’s just first settle in the Council Hall and observe."

"Should we turn off the flashlights?"

"No need. The hall is incredibly tall, with high windows. The flashlight on a smartphone can’t light things up, not even close to the windows."

"Alright."

The group individually put on masks and passed through the Transmission Port, finding themselves in the dust-laden Council Hall of the old Royal Palace of Selsa.

"Wow, this hall is truly something."

Just as they said this, they felt a strong sense of vastness.

"Is there an echo? Wasn’t that our footsteps just now?"

"Yes, and our voices too."

"The echo is so strong."

"Tsk, the echo enhances the vastness, it’s a bit creepy."

"Heh, it means this place is really big."

"Indeed, we can’t light up the windows with our phone flashlights."

"Ms. Ye Nai, have you been here during the daytime? How high is this ceiling?"

"Very high. From my estimation, it exceeds 20 meters. From the ground, I can only vaguely see there’s a mural on the ceiling, but not clearly see what’s painted."

"This main door is still locked. Why don’t we cautiously step outside to check the sky’s color? If it’s dark, forget it for tonight; can’t see clearly. We’ll have to come back during the day."

"Alright." Ye Nai opened the Transmission Port again, first stepping through to take a look, "Luck is on our side; it should be getting light outside."

This got everyone excited, and they quickly passed through the Transmission Port. Ye Nai, coming last, packed the table and other items before following them out.

Outside, the sky hinted at dawn, not fully lit yet, but those present didn’t need flashlights to move around outdoors due to their eyesight.

The reason it wasn’t apparent indoors that it was getting lighter was due to the stained glass on the high windows. Besides, the visit wasn’t specifically to tour the Council Hall.
