Chapter 158: Class Allocation Trials [Part 1]

A few days later, all the students were gathered at the grand auditorium of the academy.

The first years sat at the very front and the second years sat behind them.

The third years sat at the right side of the auditorium while the fourth years sat at the left.

The Headmaster of Frieden Academy, Rowan Vademont, stepped up to the grand dais, his deep green robes rustling softly even though there was no wind.

His calm and commanding voice resounded across the vast auditorium filled with students.

"Welcome to Frieden Academy," Rowan said with a smile. "A place where legends are made, and the sanctuary of those who will leave their marks on the pages of history."

He paused, eyes sweeping the sea of young faces.

"You stand where countless heroes once stood. Some became kings, some became scholars.

"Others vanished into the wilds of history, their names whispered in stories, and sang through bardic songs. But all of them began... just like you, in this place. Unproven. Unknown. Unready."

The gaze of the Paragon of Space sharpened as he eyed the students who were paying attention to every word that he said.

"You will not remain here for long," Rowan stated. "This academy is no mere learning institution. It is a gate. One that opens only for those willing to challenge the world and themselves.

"You will face trials that test more than your strength. Rest assured that your courage, your resolve, your heart, and all that defines you will be tested throughout the years of your stay here in the academy.

"Some of you may rise like dawnfire. Others may falter. That is the way of growth. But know this—no one leaves Frieden Academy unchanged."

He lifted his right hand, and faint arcs of magical light shimmered behind him, revealing symbols that only those who had stepped into the ranks of Paragon fully understood.

Alex looked at one of the thirteen Demigods of the world, wishing that one day, he would be able to join their ranks.

"To those who burn with ambition, may you blaze a trail the world cannot ignore," Rowan declared. "To those who seek truth, may you find the light that endures.

"To those who walk in shadow, may you uncover the strength to face it."

The light faded. His tone softened.

"You are no longer children of chance but students of Frieden Academy.

Let your trials begin, and may all of your stories be worth remembering."

A powerful cheer reverberated in the auditorium as the students gave the headmaster a round of applause.

All the First-Years who heard his words couldn’t help but feel their blood boiling and their passions reignited.

The Second-Years and Third-Years, although already used to the Headmaster’s speeches, still looked at him with awe as he delivered the opening address for the school term.

As for the Fourth-Years? They had once been in the place where the First-Years sat.

They had once been filled with dreams, hope, and ambition.

Some of them managed to get what they needed in the academy, while some learned valuable lessons that they would carry even after they left these ancient halls.

Rowan Vademont was right.

No one leaves Frieden Academy unchanged.

For better or for worse, it had once been their home. They would always carry the memories of their time here within their hearts.

The Headmaster then raised his hand, and the applause slowly died out to allow him to speak once more.

"To the First-Years, you will all start your Class Allocation Trials," Rowan continued. "However, there will be a few changes this year. In previous years, anyone could challenge any trial to gain some points so they could enter the class they wanted.

"But this year, things will be different. You can only challenge three trials, and the maximum points that you can earn in each trial is five thousand points. In order to enter Class A, you will need twelve thousand points.

"In order to enter Class B, you need ten thousand. As for Class C, you will need eight thousand. Class D is six thousand. Class E is four thousand. Anything below that will be Class F.

"However, remember this—do not feel down even if you have to start from the bottom. Once you’re there, the only place to go is up. So, as the Headmaster of the Academy, I wish all of you luck."

Rowan then raised both of his hands and created a portal in front of him.

"I hereby declare the start of the Class Allocation Trials! Enter the portal, and may fortune favor the daring, for only they move the world."

The First-Years stood up and entered the portal one by one.

When Alex stepped into the portal, he found himself in a very spacious place, where over a dozen golden portals surrounded him and the other First-Years.

Above each portal was a sign that indicated which trial it led to.

"Well then, time to challenge myself." Chuck gave Alex a thumbs-up before entering the portal below the sign that read "Trial of Magic."

One by one, the students entered the trial they wished to challenge, hoping they’d get a high score that would let them enter a good class.

Alex pondered for a bit as he looked at the different portals around him.

Suddenly, Lavinia lightly tapped his shoulder.

"What do you plan to challenge first?" she asked. "And which Class are you aiming for?"

She wanted to know just how many points she needed to earn to be in the same class as Alex.

"Anywhere aside from Class A," Alex replied. "But if possible, I want to be in Class B."

"Class B..." Lavinia muttered. "I understand. Good luck in the trial, Alex."

After knowing his target class, Lavinia entered the Trial of Swords, which perfectly suited her fighting style.

Alex thought over his options for a few more minutes before asking Dim Dim if it had any recommendations.

"Dim Dim." The Dim Sum God pointed at a portal, which made Alex smile.

"I was planning to save it for last, but since you recommended it to me, I’ll take it first," Alex replied before walking towards the portal leading to the Trial of Defense.

Since he was a tanker, this was one of the three trials that he had planned to take.

But just as Alex was about to enter the portal, a young lady accidentally bumped into him, pushing him over to a different portal.

"S-Sorry!" the young lady apologized hastily, but it was already too late.

Alex only had enough time to look at the student who had accidentally bumped into him.

She was a beautiful young lady with long purple hair and purple eyes. His heart skipped a beat.

He recognized who she was because she was someone very dear to him and to the players of ELO, who relied on luck.

She was none other than Astrea Nocturne.

A clumsy young lady who was remarkably bad at directions.

As Alex disappeared within the portal, Astrea panicked.

She quickly looked up to read the sign above the portal. Instead of calming her down, the name made her flinch.

Trial of Alchemy.

"Sorry, but I hope you know something about alchemy," Astrea pressed her hands together in prayer.

A moment later, she entered the Trial of Music, which was one of the things that she specialized in.
