Endless Horde: Through the Eyes of a Godking -
Chapter 646 - 646: The Ruined Maze
--
Aside from checking in with his growing family whenever he can, Cedric also paid attention to the matters of the alliance from time to time.
Despite the disappearance of the Void Creatures, the alliance still had its little troubles here and there, matters that no longer concerned Cedric too much since he's beyond it at this point.
In fact, it wasn't just him. The Chancellors, too, had retreated from the spotlight recently. They still ruled their people, but they do so more loosely now compared to before. Because without the threat of the void, there's really no need for them to be too concerned with mundane matters.
The Border Patrol Office's existence became a little redundant because of this. Without their enemy, they're nothing more than glorified mining sites for void ores and minerals. Their need for weapons had become obsolete since they have no targets anymore.
The last time Cedric heard, there had been plans about reshuffling the army out of necessity. After all, they can't keep everyone in there rotting away for nothing.
But whether they'd reveal the great victory against the void or not was still in discussion. The camp was divided into those who wanted to announce it, those who didn't, and those who just didn't care. Cedric himself abstained from expressing his opinion since it truly doesn't matter to him. It's not like it's going to change anything major about the current situation.
The one Cedric visited the most was the Wise Dragon Chancellor.
Igor had long since treated Cedric as his most trusted confidant. He practically tells him everything he couldn't tell others, and Cedric was always there to listen.
Their conversation mostly revolved around Igor's cubs, who are still in their respective eggs since they need time to gestate in there. His principal wife and concubines have all laid eggs safely, and they're just waiting for the cubs to break out of their shells.
Igor leisurely spends his days watching over them, smiling like a fool whenever he sees their tiny movements within the eggs. His wife and concubines were the same.
It wouldn't be wrong to say that the cubs had been the center of their world the moment they learned of their existence. And this wasn't just limited to them; it's for the entirety of the Wise Dragon Clan. Even the youngest of the dragon clan was very protective of the still-gestating cubs.
Their birth was bound to be a spectacle, one that the entire clan must celebrate because these cubs weren't just the children of their Chancellor; they also represent a new beginning, a new era, for the Wise Dragon Clan.
It's because of them that Igor had completely forgotten about the matters of the Primitive Universe. So much so that Cedric couldn't even bring it up in their conversations.
In truth, Igor hasn't forgotten about it at all. He just doesn't care. Ensuring that his cubs are born fat and healthy was more important than exploring an unknown world. And Cedric understood where he's coming from, so he never insisted.
As for the rest of the Chancellors, he felt like it was the same for them. The primitive universe held little to no attraction for them for some reason. They're more than happy to remain where they are and focus on their reality instead of searching for the truth.
Cedric couldn't relate, but he understands, and he's not in the position to force them. If they wanted to stay here and remain ignorant about the vast world outside, that's on them.
Reaching his current level in Life Evolution, there's truly little to nothing that's worth his attention here. If anything, Cedric was even beginning to feel that this realm was a little too small, but that's just mostly because of his broadened perspective.
Since others didn't want to come out with him, he'd explore on his own instead. He finds it easier to move alone, anyway, so it's fine.
And maybe, in a distant future where Cedric manages to find a foothold in the Primitive Universe, they'd be more willing to go with him. If not, that's also fine.
But one thing's for sure: when that day comes, he's bringing his family with him. And maybe the entirety of the human race as well.

More time passed just like this, and Cedric's road to full synchronization was approaching closer.
He wasn't idle during this time, though. Cedric continued his activities as usual, making sure to take necessary steps for his immediate goal.
To this extent, he had already sealed and monopolized the area where he found the exit point.
Cedric had isolated the Null Zone, sealing it away to prevent other creatures from discovering it and using the exit before he could. He didn't want to risk it in case there was only one way out. Because although the exit looked stable and solid, nobody can truly tell, especially in a place like this.
More importantly, there are no other safe exit points other than this one. It was his only way out of here, and best believe he will not compromise.
Now, with the area secured, Cedric faces the main problem, and that is how to deal with the things blocking his way.
Actually, this had been his main focus during these past few months, especially after securing this area.
Cedric had sent his clones to The Null to experience just how dangerously strange it was.
The Null was silent and still; it felt wrong, just like the Void but not as scary, just eerie. It still made his instincts go haywire in alarm despite seeing no real threats around him.
What's more alarming about it was experiencing how weak he became as he entered that space.
It's the apparent weakness that causes his instincts to go bonkers. Because in that space, Cedric was just as vulnerable as any insect, and that's just something he couldn't get used to.
In here, Cedric felt his thoughts slowing down. His limbs felt burdened, as if they were being weighed down by something heavy. It's also more difficult to breathe.
Here, he couldn't fly; he couldn't even summon a spark of flame. Running was laborious to him, he got hungry more than he was used to, and his original energy wasn't cooperating with him.
Shackled with his own mortality, that would be an apt description of what it feels to be inside The Null.
Their weird part is that it's not like he lost anything. Cedric's origin energy reserves, while being uncooperative within The Null, were still there. Hell, he could even take things out from his Inner World, which was how he took out food to eat whenever his hunger struck. His other storage items were also working just fine.
Yet despite this, Cedric remained weak inside this place. He once tried punching a wall and nearly cried because he regretted it deeply. He cracked his knuckles when he did that; his hand bled heavily, and he even saw the white film of his tissues exposed because of how deep the wound was.
He remembered cursing so much as he rushed out. Once he's outside, his strength returns, as do his powerful healing capabilities. The injury practically vanished as if it was never there to begin with; it didn't even leave a scar.
Silently, he swore to never do that again. That was a painful lesson he received because of momentary stupidity and arrogance.
And so, instead of punching walls, Cedric instead explored the place carefully. He took it slow, inspecting everything around him with deep suspicion to ensure his safety.
The Null wasn't a large area, only about 10 kilometers long, and the exit point was located at the center; however, it's surrounded by nonsensical ruins that had to be traversed to reach it.
Where to begin, though, was the real dilemma.
And to solve his problems, Cedric was slowly exploring the site to figure out a safe route to reach the exit. So far, though, his investigations were turning up blank, and the main reason why was because, for some reason, the structure blocking his path was moving.
Yes, it's active for some reason.
At first, Cedric thought that he might just be seeing things. But when he started to pay close attention, he discovered that, although the movement was minimal, it was indeed there.
Some areas would shift directions or be replaced with something else. Cedric discovered that this change happens twice a day. And even if he stared at it for the whole day without looking away to see the shift, it doesn't matter since he won't see it anyway. He will just discover that the movement was already made once it's done. He'd never see how it actually happened.
And that's the real challenge before him.
Unless Cedric could somehow understand how this was happening, exploring the interior of the ruined structure to figure out a way to get to the exit point would remain risky and not worth it.
If he couldn't even sense how the ruins shifted, how can he possibly be confident of surviving what it has in store for him?
