Chapter 274: Chapter 284: Nothing to Regret
"That’s because you’re too excellent; there really aren’t many better than you in this world," Alice Conley said, pouting. Indeed, a model’s physique at 6’1", complemented by a handsome and enchanting face, plus the Howards Family background. Such a man was once her boyfriend. When Alice thought about it, she found it somewhat unbelievable.
"How many boyfriends have you had in these few years?" he asked.
"Just one." She replied, then quickly added, "The one from just now."
"Is it an official breakup?" He glanced at her, his expression unchanged.
"Yeah."
"Is it because he wanted you to use your connections to help him find a job?" he inquired.
"Kind of, but in any case, I realized he wasn’t really the kind of person I was looking for." Luckily, their relationship was short, so she didn’t have much attachment to Archibald.
"Then what kind of person are you looking for?" he asked again.
"Of course, it’s..." She suddenly paused, as if realizing something, and said, "Doesn’t seem to be your business, does it? Also, how did you coincidentally appear at that place?"
The place where she and Archibald had their conversation was somewhat secluded, not a bustling area, making Dorian Howards’s appearance quite suspicious.
He straightforwardly admitted, "I’ve been following you for two days, do you think that’s a coincidence?"
Her jaw dropped, and she stared at him blankly, "You’ve been following me for two days?" Does that mean he also saw her withdrawing money from the bank earlier? "Wait, why are you following me?"
"Just wanted to know what you’re up to now. But after two days, I found out, Alice Conley, you’re really not doing so well. Still living in that shabby apartment; how, the 5 million you got from my mom back then, did you squander it all so quickly?" he said sarcastically.
His words were like poison-tipped arrows, even though Alice had developed a thick skin over the years, hearing them still pierced her heart.
"What, now you regret the 5 million your mom gave me back then?" she said.
"Just 5 million, nothing to regret," he said lightly.
The car fell into silence. Indeed, just 5 million, for him, probably just pocket money. Alice blinked, chasing away the bitterness in her eyes. For him, spending 5 million was just the cost of recognizing who she was, so there was nothing to regret, right?
And for her, it was just about recognizing a certain reality: that this world isn’t just about love.
Dorian Howards’s car stopped, and when Alice Conley got out, she found he had brought her to a small restaurant near the school. Back when they were dating, sometimes he would accompany her here for a late-night snack before taking her to the school gate.
The owner greeted them and had them sit down, and they placed their order. Dorian Howards said, "Haven’t been here in three years; this place has changed quite a bit."
"It has changed; even the owner is different. The previous owner went back to his hometown and handed the shop over to a relative," Alice Conley explained. Time can often change so many things and people.
Alice ordered a beef brisket rice and an egg drop soup, while Dorian Howards ordered the same meal as her.
Alice Conley gave Dorian Howards a curious look. Back when he used to accompany her for late-night snacks, he would order the same as her, even if he didn’t eat it. She used to call him wasteful. Sometimes he even ate double portions, and during that period, she gained 13 pounds.
