Chapter 735 - 735: Ghost sickness Part 1
Dodging the strike was a feat easy enough for Uriel who was now able to keep his Dash skill active for as long as he wanted thanks to the flux energy he was stealing from the huge creature. The ones that followed, not so much.
From the heights above the cryptid noticed Uriel's presence despite him concealing his flux energy to the best of his ability due to the pain it caused him. Granted, Uriel looked like nothing but an ant to the cryptid, but even ant stings can cause a great deal of pain.
Unfortunately for Uriel, he was unable to find any semblance of a head he could target to defeat the cryptid and although he remained unscathed, the same could be said about his enemy. It could be said they reached a stalemate, but now that the cryptid located the source of the pain it suffered Uriel was actually at a disadvantage.
While he was able to inflict many shallow cuts with ease and missing his target was likely impossible due to the Chindi's size, all it took for the ungodly beast to defeat him was to stomp on him. Just its weight would have been more than sufficient to crush all his bones and pop him like a bubble.
"This thing must have some other weakness," Uriel grunted as he attempted to regain his breath, realizing that the air was more dense than before and it carried a strange odor which resulted in a fit of cough not even his heavenly rank could prevent. "of course, it isn't the bearer of sickness for nothing.
I wonder why did the Navajo even bother in passing down the tale of this creature without an instruction manual on how to defeat it."
Uriel clicked his tongue in annoyance until he realized they did, in fact, leave instructions for how to defeat it. He had read about the ceremony performed by the Native American of several tribes with great interest on their cultural value, while completely disregarding the lore about it.
"Let's see... it said something like...," Uriel fumbled to himself while dodging the stomps from the uneven amount of limbs that attempted to crush him to death with every move. The cryptid's speed was eerily fast for something of its size, but Uriel was even faster and had the advantage of being a small target which allowed him to stay somewhat safe and able to focus.
"there was the blessing way which consisted in a secret song, a ritual dance and... there's no time for that!" He shook his head as he performed a series of slashes on the cryptid to regain stamina, finding himself more tired by the second.
[System notice] Battery level low.
"What!?" Uriel gasped in shock. "Math isn't my strong suit, but I should be getting more flux than what I'm spending."
It was then that he finally noticed he was actually sick. With every breath he took in, all kinds of germs and bacteria entered his body and whenever he exhaled he lost an astounding amount of flux energy.
'There was also the 'blackening rite' meant for spirits of the enemies.' Uriel inwardly thought as he wanted to save his breath and prevent getting sicker. The problem with that rite was that it needed at least two people, one being the healer and the other the patient.
In said ceremony, the patient became the host for the spirit of the ancient hero who would slay the ghost sickness from within. Being alone it was impossible to perform the ceremony and while summoning Nika remained an option, his flux energy was so low she would likely drain his reserve and become unable to fight in the span of a few seconds.
Uriel paused for a moment and gazed up at the creature, then he looked at himself and once more he looked at the cryptid as an Idea came to mind. Had anybody else been present they would have said it was insane, but Uriel didn't need anyone to tell him what he already knew.
"Hey, you ugly bastard! I'm tired of this stupid game, are you going to eat me or not!?" He said mockingly after deactivating Dash.
Despite its ugly appearance and incredible size, the cryptid had an intellect similar to that of a human and it soon became clear it could understand Uriel's words when it breathed in once more through a vile hole that didn't remotely resemble a mouth and scooped Uriel up like a vacuum cleaner.
"So you like to get people sick, let's see how you like it." Uriel grunted from within the interior of the beast. It wasn't the first time he killed a cryptid from within and although he was relieved there were no sharp grinding organs or teeth, the interior of the Chindi was filled with miasma.
Without any more words, Uriel started slashing at anything solid he could reach dispersing chunks of meat as the red thread cut through anything. He was completely unable to see due to the dense sickening fumes, but that didn't prevent him from wrecking havoc anywhere he moved.
Without a solid foothold and with the cryptid writhing in pain, Uriel lost balance on more than one occasion, not that it made a difference as he tore his way apart from within the disgusting interior and viscera while holding his breath.
As time passed Uriel started to asphyxiate at the same time his limbs weakened to the point where his damage was halved, but he made up by summoning his old Swiss army knife. With the Red thread of fate in one hand and the small pocket knife on the other, Uriel was able to break through the beast huge body all the way to freedom.
"That was crazy." Uriel spoke the words he felt needed to be said after he recovered his breath.
[System notice] Dungeon of disease cleared.
"Is that all!?" Uriel asked after a few seconds, as though prompting the system to continue.
