Chapter 709 - 709: Bury the hatchet Part 2
To say Sam was enraged by Uriel playing dumb in what was supposed to be their fated encounter after such a long time would have been the understatement of the millennium. Sam had pictured that fight in his mind many times in the past, but no matter how hard he tried he couldn't picture a scenario where Uriel could possibly win against his overwhelming power and immortal body.
However, he wasn't so stupid as to repeat his past mistake and follow Uriel into a sinkhole where he would be at a disadvantage. At least not until he made sure he still had the upper hand.
As a holy rank hunter he didn't need to worry much about weapons since he knew the only reason Uriel was able to stab him was due to Uriel using Sam's own power against him. It was a small mistake that could be easily corrected since thanks to Water warlock would regenerate any and all of his wounds on the spot.
Of all the people who knew Uriel, Sam was the least inclined to underestimate him. Even before becoming a heavenly rank Uriel had already proved to be smart enough to meddle in his plans and strong enough to defeat anything that stood in his path.
And of all the things Uriel could possibly have in store for him, the one that worried him the most was Nika which is why Sam flew high searching for the sunkissed huntress and sighed a sigh of relief when he spotted her standing by the caravan while her students made the line to enter the city completely unaware of Sam's gaze.
"You do realize the only reason I left you live this long is so you could find this very dungeon for me?" Sam scoffed.
"I sort of guessed you wanted to use me to find dungeons for you the last time we met each other, but there's nothing much inside this place. At least not for me... Maybe I'll just seal the entrance." Uriel said disinterestedly.
"You wouldn't dare do something like that." Sam hovered by the sinkhole confirming Uriel was by the door. He didn't know if Uriel could actually do something like that, but the thought filled him with utter terror and performed a sky dive to stop whatever Uriel was about to do. Bluff or not, Sam couldn't afford to lose acces to that dungeon.
On his mad descent, Sam got entangled in some sort of wire that felt like cobweb. Even if it was as thin as an atom his Lightbringer trait should have allowed him to see it and the fact he couldn't made him panic on the spot.
"What is this!?" Sam cried as he attempted to fly away, only to become even more entangled in the Red thread of fate's wire.
"It's flux energy, I figured you couldn't see it or else your field of view would be obstructed by it." Uriel grinned as he pulled the wire he carefully weaved on as many stakes as he could jab onto the sides of the sinkhole while Sam was distracted by searching for Nika.
"Solid flux energy!?" Sam let out a gasp as he tried to overpower the wire as Uriel pulled on the wire even harder, but in spite of his efforts failed to keep Sam in place. "You're not strong enough." Sam laughed.
"You're right, I'm not." Uriel grunted as he struggled to hold the wire, but still released one hand to take a small figurine from his trait and dropping it on the ground summoning Nika.
"About time!" Nika said as she grabbed onto Uriel to help him pull even harder.
"You bitch!" Sam blurted out as he felt a tug when Nika joined.
"It's not enough!" Nika huffed prompting Uriel to also summon his jaguar who also pulled on the wire as burst of blue flames came off from his loin down to its tail.
"It looks like you had this planned from the start," Sam grunted as his wings folded and became incapable of moving. "what now? Didn't it occur to you that the moment you run out of flux I'll just kill you two?"
"Yeah, right. As if Uriel didn't plan for this for weeks." Nika said with confidence, yet Sam burst into laughter when he saw Uriel's expression shift as the realization hit him that he couldn't let go of the wire, hence he couldn't move closer to Sam to attack him.
"Actually... I sort of expected to be closer to him when we tied him up."
"Are you being serious!?" Nika blurted out fighting the temptation to hide in Uriel's shadow.
"I expected to tie him up close to ground level or maybe in the dungeon entrance, but this hole seemed more convenient." Nika felt tempted to say something dirty, but the pain coursing through her body as the physical exertion from keeping a holy rank hunter in place left her unable to do so.
Just when things seemed to be lost, Uriel suddenly felt stronger. Without knowing the reason, he just pulled the wire harder relieving some of the load on Nika's hands. He looked around and not five seconds later two hunters showed up.
"Teaching assistant, are you okay?" Asked Hathaway from above.
"Does it look like I'm okay!? Get in here and help me out, I'll make sure you get a passing grade or whatever you want." Uriel grunted.
Alice and Hathaway jumped inside the sinkhole without giving it a second thought, allowing Uriel to finally release the wire and able to strike at Sam.
"Miss Nika, what are you doing here?" Alice was taken aback by the presence of the sunkissed professor.
"What does it look like I'm doing? Geez, Uriel, your students sure are a piece of work. Where's the short one?" Nika asked receiving a shook of the head as response.
"How is this possible!? It's just an ascended and a heavenly rank! They shouldn't be this strong!" Sam snarled when he felt the wire tightening to the point of cutting his skin in several places at the same time. "why am I not healing!?" Sam shouted in a shrill voice both in pain and exasperation.
"You've been with him all this time and you haven't noticed? Can you really be more stupid than you look? He's Water fucking warlock, he needs water in order to heal you and guess what. There isn't any water in here." Uriel knelt on the ground to take impulse and craned up his neck to make sure he wouldn't miss the jump. "Any last words?"
"I'll kill you, I'll fucking kill you all!" Sam spouted as he tried to release himself by activating Celerity once more, yet all he managed to do was to make the cuts deeper and the pain even more overwhelming.
Uriel plunged the tip of the Red thread of fate directly on Sam's heart regaining a vast amount of flux energy while at the same time weakening his enemy.
[System prompt] Activate repentance skill? [Y/N]
"My name is Uriel Sage and I command you to repent for your sins." He sentenced as pale ghostly shades in the form of ethereal wing like whips came out from his shoulder bones. His eyes along with Sam's filled with flux energy and tears alike as the soul piercing skill cast by Uriel caused them both equal amounts of pain.
"Stop, I'm telling you fucking stop! I yield! I'll give you everything, fame, artifacts, gold... whatever you want!" Sam cried as he writhed out of sheer pain.
"No wealth, no ruin, no silver, no gold will satisfy me but your soul." Uriel's words echoed in the now silent sinkhole in the middle of the desert.
