Chapter 694 - 694: Study group Part 2

Attending to class in the mornings, training on the afternoon and studying on the evenings proved to be an extremely difficult task. At least for the three students who despite putting all of their effort, they still failed to get up in time.

"The teaching assistant is so unbelievable." Ashanti grunted as she sat in front of a tray of food that had gone cold. Being raised in the slums she couldn't imagine letting food go to waste, but her body and mind were so tired she just couldn't pass it.

"I know! Do you think it's his usual routine and that's why he became so strong? I've heard rumors that he was always late to class on his first year." Scoundrel asked, his eyes shimmering in admiration.

"That's impossible. Last year students weren't hunters. Moreover, I heard he started off as an evolved." Ashanti replied.

"Moreover? Look at you, learning new words and all." Scoundrel teased.

"You've been awfully quiet, what got into you?" Asked Ashanti in a successful attempt to hide her embarrassment.

"Does it not bother you? We've tried our best to defeat him all week and the closest we've been was on the first day when you shot at him without a warning and when I landed a kick on him." Alice sighed.

"Why would it bother me? He's obviously on a different level than us. We'll get there eventually, we just need to be patient." Scoundrel said with a mouthful. Out of the three of them, he was the only one who truly enjoyed learning about ancient cultures and didn't find their late night studies boring. In fact, he treasured those study sessions and wished they could last longer.

"It should bother us, because if it was a real fight we would have been dead. This means that a single heavenly rank hunter can kill three ascended without effort, without even using their trait which means..."

"We're not safe." Ashanti nodded.

"In short, yes," Alice sighed once more then continued. "we can't afford to offend any heavenly rank hunter, even if they're weak."

"Heavenly rank hunters are one thing, but I heard entity level cryptids are even scarier. A single entity cryptid can wipe an entire hunting party. How do they even hunt those things?" Scoundrel added.

"I don't want to think about that." Alice let out.

"You'll get accustomed to being scared eventually. Back when we lived in the slums it was the usual, even people without traits posed a threat to us and not to mention..." The three students continued their conversation unaware that someone looked at them at a distance.

Usually referred to as Hathaway, Mike was the wealthiest student in college be it local or foreign. He also was a heavenly rank hunter, though contrary to what people believed he didn't buy his way to power but earned it on the same day the rest of his family died.

"Hey, do you mind if I take a seat?" Asked Hathaway bearing a gentle smile on his face that would melt any girl's heart.

"Of course!" Ashanti replied without thinking, something Alice didn't appreciate as she glared daggers at her before speaking in a dry voice.

"What do you want?"

"I noticed you guys are a bit tired lately. Are you okay? Are they bullying you?"

"That's none of your business." Alice scoffed to which a wry smile was drawn on the handsome man.

"I know that, but if you need help..." Hathaway insisted, but not before taking a look around as though looking for someone.

"What is this really about?" Alice looked him in the eye using her trait just in case he attempted something, yet the future she saw left her dumbfounded to say the least causing Alice to let out a slight chuckle.

"I noticed you look increasingly more tired and you also come to class with bruises. I'm worried it might have something to do with the teaching assistant."

"And what if it is? What would you do about it?" Alice questioned with more curiosity.

"I don't know, that guy is more dangerous than you think and I'd rather not get involved with him. But I won't stay idle if he's harming other students."

"Well said." Uriel said as he placed a hand on the young man's shoulder making him go pale despite the presence of other students.

"I was just about to leave." Hathaway tried to excuse himself, but the firm grasp on his shoulder prevented him from standing up.

"If you're worried about your classmates, then maybe you can come with and see what is going on for yourself." Uriel grinned as he noticed the unspeakable horror depicted on the young student's face.

Later that evening Hathaway witnessed first hand what caused the bruises on his classmates and he couldn't believe his eyes when he saw a single heavenly rank hunter fighting against three ascended without so much as activating his trait.

What horrified him the most, though, was that when that unfair fight ended Uriel didn't so much as give them a minute to recover and immediately dragged them to the library where they proceeded with their accustomed study session.

"This is inhumane..." Hathaway blurted out.

"Silence!" Gertrude commanded from a distance. She didn't emit the flux signature of a hunter which only made her acute hearing even more uncanny.

"Why are you guys doing all this?" Hathaway asked, now in a hushed voice.

"This is our study group and now you're part of it." Uriel replied in a whisper.

"Study group? This is torture." Hathaway would have liked to raise his voice, but not even Uriel dared to defy the old librarian.

"It's the best thing that ever happened to me." Scoundrel said with a shaky thumbs up as his muscles were too sore from the physical exercise. Believing him was hard, especially since the three students looked even weaker than when they first arrived, but contrary to them Hathaway was a heavenly rank hunter which made him notice the slight but steady growth in their energy signatures.

"Fine, count me in." He replied directing a determined gaze at Uriel.
