Dungeon Raider System -
Chapter 670 - 670: Flow like water
Uriel was cornered from all possible perspectives. He was in a hostile place filled with an uncanny amount of malevolent flux energy, in the presence of a foul creature that knew nothing but hunger and the two most powerful members of the society.
Going by this it would have been easy to assume his defeat was the inevitable outcome yet when Mark saw a grin appear on the young archaeologist's face he knew he made the right decision by coming back to help him.
From the moment Mark saw the creature they summoned he realized escaping the dungeon would mean surviving only for a short period of time.
A creature so powerful could not be controlled by any of the means at their disposal and it was only a matter of time until the creature killed him or even worse, until the government got involved and dispatched holy rank hunters to capture him for being involved with the group responsible for summoning it.
Uriel dodged the projectiles being thrown his way with the minimum effort then summoned his crimson dagger to accompany the magnum already on his other hand and prepared to strike. His appearance was that of a cold blooded killer that caused Neve to forget about the ominous creature roaring in the background for a second.
"You can't stop this now, it's too late! You can still kneel down and pray for your life to be spared." Neve dragged both her hands with such force her fingertips left red stripes on her cheeks to keep her bloodshot eyes opening.
She showed on her face the same mad fear a cornered beast as she curled up, yet she continued channeling her flux energy to launch as many elemental projectiles as she could muster towards Uriel.
Attacking Bella was only a means to delay her demise as she knew all hope had been lost the minute they meddled with powers they did not understand, but hindsight was useless now and delaying the inevitable was the only thing she could do.
Uriel understood she did it out of self preservation, but even if Bella didn't mean much to him personally and she came from the same families that caused this problem in the first place, she was still a Dungeon Raider and it was his duty to protect her or at least get revenge.
Neve extended her arms forward to create a thick wall of ice as hard as steel, which shouldn't pose any obstacles to a hunter, but being infused with her flux energy she planned on using it to wrap it over Uriel the moment he got near.
Under Neve's stupefied gaze, Uriel didn't press on his attack but turned towards the cultists that were kneeling in front of the creature firing his magnum with deadly precision and slicing throats in his wake with the grace of a sword dance.
One moment he was near Neve then the next he was on the other corner of the room, his movements were completely unpredictable as not even he knew where he was moving towards. Rather than choosing a target, Uriel limited himself to dodge any attacks and capitalized on the momentum to boost his speed meaning he was both attacking and defending at the same time.
"You are dooming us all!" Mason shouted once he realized Uriel was killing the helpless cultists in an attempt to weaken the creature or at least to prevent it from growing even stronger. It could be said he was doing the exact same thing they did when they shot Bella down, but the difference was that by taking out cultists Uriel was painting a huge target on his and Neve's back.
This was something Mason couldn't allow and he proceeded to throw any and all shapes of rocks Uriel's way, but other than causing a dust cloud it had no effect as Uriel used the cultists as meat shields to protect himself from the few projectiles that could have landed on him.
"Is this the best you can do? I'm a bit underwhelmed by the witchcraft thing." Uriel briefly cancelled Dash to taunt the old man as he beckoned at him with his hand. Although Mason was not a scholar, he wasn't stupid either and he knew better than to fall into cheap provocations, but the same didn't apply to Neve who by then had lost the grip on her sanity.
"You little bastard!" Neve screamed to the top of her lungs as she used the water element to propel herself forward at an unthinkable speed, one that Uriel couldn't match not even with Dash. Not that it made any difference as her body was sliced with perfect clean cuts by the wire Uriel laid all over the chamber as he moved around killing cultists.
Rather than being cut to pieces, it was as though Neve's body was dismantled as she went from being unscathed moving at the speed of a bullet down to nothing but her head rolling beneath Uriel's feet at crawl speed.
"One down," Uriel grinned as he took back the wire by storing the Red thread of fate on his trait then turned to look at the old man with a steely gaze. "one to go."
As usual, Mark had remained on the sideline waiting for the moment where Uriel flaked to quickly switch sides and kill him, yet after seeing Neve getting sliced to pieces he felt sick to his stomach and couldn't help but fall on his knees and vomit.
The stench of blood and entrails was unbearable after so many people died, though he failed to notice there were no remains on the ground anymore as the foul creature didn't stop consuming the corpses for a second. Mark didn't notice the water on the ground that behaved like a tide that went in pristine and returned to the nameless creature carrying Neve's remains to consume them.
At the same time, on the last seal Luna found herself struggling to keep the stone in place. Some of her long bestial fingers snapped like twigs under the pressure of the nameless creature regaining its strength, but despite having her fingers broken she remained applying as much force as she could by using her wrist.
"I can't hold much longer." She muttered nonchalantly despite the pain she endured, though it came from the maw of her werewolfish maw making it sound like a low growl. Every second the push of the seal became stronger and not even her unnatural strength could keep the seal in place.
Just then, the voice of her friends reassured her.
"We're here!" Medusa shouted as she ran towards Luna as fast as her heavenly rank body allowed, though the first one who reached Luna was actually Nika whose shadow blink allowed her to surpass the speed of most holy rank hunters.
Nika placed her hand on top of Luna's and summoned her shadow armor up to the height of her elbow to apply as much force as she could while spending the least amou8nt of flux possible. It felt warm and comfortable one second making Luna think everything would be alright, though as soon as Nika started moving the seal Luna's broken fingers turned into a bloody pulp.
What happened after Medusa put her hand over Nika's was even worse as Luna's wrist snapped in an uncanny angle. There would be no other way to describe it other than torture and Luna fought the impulse to retract her hand with nothing but her will power.
Medusa couldn't see Luna's condition, but Nika's face paled in horror when she saw a stream of blood coming down from the seal and hesitated for a second causing the seal to give in just a notch.
Meanwhile in the throne chamber, Uriel had continued his slaughter the entire time while taking every chance to open fire at Mason. His face was a stone mask that leaked no emotion, though rage seared throughout his veins like never before.
In spite of his emotions and contrary to his usual reckless fighting style now he moved with uncanny precision since he now wasn't fighting against inertia but using in the most efficient way. This also boosted his accuracy allowing each of the shots he fired to follow a straight trajectory towards Mason's face.
Being an earth elemental user meant that he was able to block the bullets with ease, but due to Uriel targeting his face defending also meant covering his sight. Little by little the old man was overwhelmed as Uriel became faster and faster, leaving Mason with no choice but to cover himself entirely with a stone barrier.
It was an opportunity Uriel waited for, but one of his own making. Everything he did since he started targeting the cultist was an impromptu plan that solidified as he moved about killing people.
Uriel neared a wall, but instead of smoothly turning to preserve the inertia like he had been doing he kicked it and launched himself towards Mason. The strength of his legs was put to the test and the same applied to the resistance of his heavenly rank bones as his ankle snapped out of place instead of breaking.
'It doesn't matter, this should end it all.' Uriel inwardly thought mid flight and he would have been correct if not for the fact that at that exact moment Luna, Nika and Medusa lost the grip on the stone mechanism.
And the fourth seal was broken.
