Chapter 48: 048. This was the first time she called his name.

Nan Wan kept her head down but, rather pathetically, wrapped her arms around the man’s neck again. Still keeping her head down, she asked sullenly, "You’re not helping me pull out my shoe; where are we going?"

Although she was tall for a girl, she was quite slender and light. Mu Jin Huan felt no burden at all holding her in his arms.

He continued striding toward the car, his voice low, "Buy a new pair, then go eat."

Straightforward.

Nan Wan was speechless, "You could just pull out the heel for me."

"Don’t want to."

Nan Wan, "..."

As she was placed in the passenger seat, Nan Wan closed her eyes, suppressed her irritation, and tried speaking in a relatively calm tone, "Then I don’t want to go eat."

The car was quiet and warm; even barefoot, she didn’t feel cold.

"Still don’t get it?" Mu Jin Huan closed the car door, leaned over to fasten her seatbelt, and said unhurriedly, "Making you owe me."

Nan Wan furrowed her brows, sitting motionless in the passenger seat.

Oh, so he did it on purpose.

Once you accept someone’s favor, you owe them one; soon she’d owe him both.

So, his next appearance would be justifiable.

Is that what this is...?

Nan Wan took a deep breath and slowly exhaled it, turning her head to look at him, "I just love being barefoot, and I’m not used to having dinner with a man with ulterior motives at nearly ten at night."

The orange light shone through the glass, casting on Mu Jin Huan’s expressionless face, making his features appear even more distinct and angular.

He started the car, his gaze as calm as ever, and said blandly, "Then let’s go home."

To be honest, his easy compromise surprised Nan Wan a bit, but more than anything, she felt a sense of relief, "I can do that myself."

"It’s late, not safe."

Hearing his words, Nan Wan averted her gaze, sat quietly, her eyes fixed forward.

Qing City’s night was dazzling, with colorful neon lights alternately flashing, not at all empty.

The road was clear, but the car didn’t speed.

No one spoke along the way, and no music played; it was a silent quiet.

When the car came to a stop, Nan Wan lowered her eyes, pressed her lips, her voice extremely calm, "Mu Jin Huan, what do you really want?"

This was the first time she called his name.

Detached, cold.

Mu Jin Huan lowered the car window, surrounded by darkness.

He retrieved a cigarette pack from the storage compartment, leisurely took one out, and lit it with a flick of the lighter.

His eyes were like a calm sea, his voice perpetually low, "We’re here."

The faint scent of tobacco wafted into her nostrils, Nan Wan didn’t unfasten her seatbelt, her tone flat, "Make it clear; otherwise, I won’t get out of the car."

Rather than passively waiting, she’d prefer to take the initiative.

Mu Jin Huan flicked the ash with his distinct knuckles, turned his head slightly, gazing at the woman’s exquisite profile with a smirk, his voice carrying a unique charm, "One more chance for you, get out."
