Chapter 84: Chapter 83 - Mistress?

The tension was thick as everyone’s gaze remained on Selena.

They held their breath as Selena opened her trembling lips to speak.

But before a sound could escape—

Her eyes burned purple.

Her hair shifted, strand by strand, from silver to a deep, shimmering violet.

Her head lowered as a hush fell over the clearing.

No one knew what happened, but their guards instantly went up, especially when they saw Nibbles, who was hiding in bushes, suddenly jump in alarm.

"CHIT! CHIT! CHIT-CHIT!" (DEMON! DEMON! KILL HER!)

It was trying to tell them something, but they couldn’t understand.

Except one of them, at least.

Alex understood those words, his eyes widening, but before he could speak, Clara’s lips moved.

"Selena...?" Clara whispered, her voice trembling.

She didn’t need Nibbles to tell her that something was wrong with Selena, and although she was still not over Selena’s betrayal, she was worried about the princess.

For her, Selena was still her one and only friend.

In her mind, she had hoped Selena would give some justification that could prove her innocent, but now...

Selena—or what was once Selena—slowly raised her head. Her expression had changed from panicked and guilty to serene and elegant.

In her eyes flickered amusement.

A smile curled at her lips like velvet temptation as she flicked her now-purple hair over her shoulder.

"Finally," she exhaled as she had just stepped into a long-awaited ballroom. "You have no idea how difficult she was."

Jessy raised her sword instantly, and so did Jake and Rufus.

Alex, feeling that it was the moment, quickly translated Nibbles’s words. "He’s saying that she’s a demon!"

No one actually needed to know that by now. Alex’s words, however, confirmed their suspicion, increasing their vigilance.

Raven didn’t move. But his gaze sharpened.

"...You’re not Selena."

The woman placed a dainty hand over her chest and gave a mock pout. "I am Selena. Just the one inside had changed. But don’t worry, I’m not here to hurt her. In fact, she’s sleeping quite peacefully."

Her expression never wavered once, but Raven’s did.

He knew what was going on.

’Fuck... so the plot was still there.’

According to the plot, Selena was supposed to try forming a contract with a demon to gain power, and Raven, who was the protagonist, was supposed to save her and stop her from doing it.

But since Raven wasn’t here, it seemed like Selena had formed the contract.

He had been suspicious about it since he met, but he really wished it hadn’t happened.

Now, however, there was no way around it.

Before he could think harder about it, Clara growled at the woman. "You expect us to believe that?"

"No," the woman chuckled. "I don’t expect you to believe anything. I’m here for him."

She turned her glowing eyes to Raven.

And he met them, unflinching.

"Raven Von Vaise."

The others stepped protectively in front of him, but he raised a hand. "Stand down. Let’s hear her."

He didn’t know what was going on, but his fate eyes suddenly brightened, glowing blue, meaning it was an opportunity.

The woman before them might really not be here to harm anyone but to offer something that could be of help to him.

"But—" Rufus tried to speak, but Raven’s eyes turned to him, glaring.

"I said," his voice was low and firm, "stand down."

Rufus flinched, lowering his head. "...I was just worried."

Others silently observed everything, their bodies tense.

Siris, in particular, was gripping her weapon hard, her eyes cold as ice.

She was in the form that said, ’One wrong move and my blade and your throat would say hello.’

The woman, on the other hand, smiled wider. "Oh, I like you."

"Talk," Raven gestured, not interested in idle chat as a demon was still a demon.

The woman stepped forward, graceful as moonlight, her heels clicking softly on the forest floor.

No one noticed how or when, but the rope around her was gone. As they looked behind her, they saw her shadow, which had eaten the demonic beast earlier, was now eating the rope like noodles.

"I’ve wanted to meet you for a long time," the woman said. "Ever since I heard he wanted you dead."

"...He?"

"The current Demon Overlord," she said, twirling her finger. "Big guy. Fiery temper. Disgusting fashion sense."

Clara blinked. "The... demon overlord wants to kill Raven?"

’This is... not good.’

Even the spirit in Siris’s head turned serious, making Siris frown.

’Is the demon overlord powerful?’ She asked inwardly, and the spirit, who was still shocked at the sudden revelation, replied.

’Yes. He is the ruler of the demon realm.’

Siris didn’t know how powerful a ruler was supposed to be, but looking at Raven’s expression, which had turned into shock and disbelief, she knew this person wasn’t someone to scoff at.

The demoness sighed. "Honestly, it’s all so predictable. Anything that doesn’t make sense, they try to kill it."

She looked Raven up and down, her smile growing less playful and more... intrigued.

"You’re an anomaly," she said softly.

Raven, with his gaze trembling, turned to her.

"I didn’t know at first," she admitted. "But after watching you—your growth, your strength, and your soul’s structure—I realized what it was. They’re scared of you."

That got everyone’s attention.

If a guy like that was already coming for him, then how could he survive?

"They fear what you could become," she said. "Because someone like you—if left alone—could reach ’that’ level."

A cold silence spread. No one asked what that level was. Everyone instinctively understood it was something far beyond comprehension.

Raven, however, was panicking. ’Fucking hell! I don’t want this.’

He was trying so hard to maintain his expression on the outside, but it was slowly breaking.

Others here couldn’t possibly know about the demon lord, but Raven did.

That guy was one of the characters who was spoiled to be the main boss of this world.

Yes, he could probably reach whatever level this demoness was talking about, but he needed to survive for that!

’How the fuck am I supposed to stay alive if the strongest being introduced in the plot was after my ass?!’

His attention wasn’t on Selena’s betrayal right now.

No, in the first place, it wasn’t betrayal. It was survival.

He was never going to blame her for that, but he wanted to know everything.

Now, he knew more than the ’everything’ he wanted to know.

As the silence persisted, others slowly turned toward Raven, only to see his expression twitching.

It was as if he were controlling something.

"Raven?" Clara held his hand from the side, breaking him out of his thoughts as he quickly masked his panic.

If he were to look weak right now, then the other would panic more.

He thanked god that no one knew how strong the demon overlord was—

"This demon overlord—how strong is he?" Alex’s sudden question echoed, and the woman turned toward the guy.

Raven did the same.

’Fuck!’

He forgot that they had an extra curious and extra dumb guy in their group.

Before he could speak or stop the conversation, the woman’s expression changed, and for the first time, a hint of anger mixed with fear appeared in her eyes.

"...he’s devastatingly strong," she muttered silently, as if recalling something, but noticing everyone’s gaze on her, she smiled, replying to Alex in a way he could understand.

"He is strong enough to destroy a mountain with a flick of his finger."

’Fuck this shit.’

Raven slapped his head inwardly, knowing that there was no going back as everyone now knew how strong the demon overlord was, but—

"What? Do you think I’m an idiot?" Alex frowned.

No one could tell where his confidence was coming from, but everyone could somehow relate.

What? Destroying a mountain with a flick of his finger?

Even kids won’t believe it.

The woman shrugged, not caring what they thought.

She answered Alex’s question truthfully. Now, it was up to them if they believed it or not.

Raven, however, loved this development. So, before others could ask or say something else, he stepped forward, his expression turning serious again.

"What is your objective?" He asked the woman.

"I want to make a deal," she said without a pause, grinning. "You see, I’m not exactly welcome in the Demon Realm."

"You don’t say," Raven muttered.

She gave a small, mock bow. "They call me Mistress, daughter of the previous Demon Overlord. I have a record of surviving assassination attempts. Most of the demons want to kill me, so I’m not exactly on good terms with the current rulers of the demon realm."

"...Mistress?" Siris mumbled, her brows frowning. "Kinky."

The demoness shot her a look. "It’s a name I was given, tiny psycho."

Siris didn’t say anything in return and stared harder at the woman, who shrugged it off, unbothered.

Raven, on the other hand, folded his arms. "You still haven’t explained why you used Selena."

He asked that, but on the inside, he was frowning hard.

After all, he couldn’t recall any plot where the daughter of the previous demon overlord was ever mentioned.

’Is this a new development?’ He wondered.

He couldn’t tell.

What he knew, however, was that nothing was going the way he wanted it to.

First, a psycho killer started calling him husband; then, he found out that the girl he thought to be simple and innocent was hiding a demon; and now, the demon overlord was after his ass.

’What the hell did I do to deserve this? Curse the goddess? Was that it?’

He didn’t even have tears to cry about his situation.

From the start till now, he had been suffering.

Yes, his suffering was very different from the suffering in the plot, but it was suffering nonetheless.
