Chapter 44: Female lead
Chapter 44: Female lead
The figure was a young woman, battling several Demon Dragon Monsters, just like the ones Drahon had faced earlier.
One of the Demon Dragon Monsters, its scales blackened with ruthlessness, lunged at her, its jaws wide enough to swallow a man whole. But she didn’t flinch. With a sharp pivot, she dropped to the side, its claws missing her by inches. The wind of its strike stirred her wine-colored hair, but she was already moving, sliding under its belly in a swift, fluid motion.
As the creature thundered past, she slashed upward, her blade cutting through the thick hide behind its foreleg. The beast roared, staggering, black ichor spraying into the dirt.
It tried to turn, but she was gone, already on her feet, eyes on the second monster.
This one reared its head, opening its mouth to release a torrent of flame. But she was faster. She darted sideways, rolling across the grass as the fire scorched the ground behind her. With a flick of her wrist, a small blade left her fingers, spinning...
Until it embedded itself in the dragon’s eye.
The beast screamed, rearing in agony.
She didn’t flinch. Not even a flicker of fear crossed her face.
In one breathless motion, she sprinted toward the first Demon Dragon Monster, now wounded and disoriented. Her sword gleamed with a faint, glowing light, Drahon couldn’t help but marvel at it.
She leapt high and landed atop its massive back, driving her blade straight down into the crown of its skull. The creature convulsed once before collapsing beneath her, its body hitting the earth with a heavy thud.
She spun on her heel just as the final dragon lunged in a blind fury.
Then she sidestepped with grace, letting it rush past her. In a single practiced motion, she summoned a second sword. As the beast turned to charge again, she was already in the air, both blades flashing in a cross-strike, slicing through its neck and chest in one clean motion.
Rrrsshhh!
The dragon monster fell.
She landed lightly, breath steady, as if the entire battle had cost her nothing. Then her gaze shifted to Drahon who stood frozen at the spot, befuddled.
Damn.
He just hoped she didn’t take him as an enemy or he was going to be fighting.
By the looks of things, she might have an advantage against him, noting that he was pretty tired from all the trekking and then, the rigorous exercise he had undertaken when facing off against the Demon Dragon Monsters.
But she too had just killed off a bunch of them, without using any fancy skills.
To be honest, what helped him against those Demon Dragon Monsters was the Draconic Leap skill, and if not for that, he’d have had some difficulty.
He had even summoned his Scaled Guard skill on, just in case, but this lady, standing in front of him, had just defeated around eight of the Demon Dragon Monsters without using any skills-
At least from what he saw. Some of the Demon Dragons were already dead, laying lifelessly on the ground before he came, so she had been fighting before he stepped into the scene.
She paused as she gazed at Drahon for quite some time before looking away.
But in those little seconds... Drahon saw her face.
She would be around his age, only so stunningly beautiful she looked like a goddess.
She stood amid the smoke and broken branches, the blood of dragons steaming at her feet. Her armor was sleek, dark steel, trimmed in crimson, shaped to move like a second skin.
Her wine-colored hair flowed down her back in waves, windswept and wild, contrasting sharply with the harshness of her gear.
Her eyes were sharp, amber-gold, slitted like a dragon’s but more attractive and beautiful than that of a human.
A thin scar curved across her cheek, old but visible, and her swords... they looked really cool, silver in color, the edge glowing faintly red like a dying ember.
She was stunning, easily the most beautiful girl Drahon had ever seen. For almost a whole minute, he stood there, speechless, not knowing what to say.
The thing is, at the orphanage he didn’t even talk to a male, talk less of a female. He’d never looked at a girl the way he was now, studying this mysterious lady like she was a goddess.
And because of that, seeing her now twisted his gut with nervousness. He could barely breathe as he stared, unsure whether to be amazed or afraid.
And don’t think the MC is a weirdo or anything. This was just natural. He was trying to adapt.
He finally gathered his nerve and stepped closer to her. He was still anxious though, not because he was seeing an actual lady for the first time (by seeing, he meant examining), but because he had just seen her fight and her movement and use of the sword was out of the norms.
The female figure wasn’t paying so much attention to Drahon though, but she was cautious, occasionally taking a glance at him as she looked at the dead bodies and some stuff Drahon couldn’t see in front of her.
He realized that she was absorbing essence and checking her stats update. Drahon totally understood, and that was the reason he stayed at the spot for the whole minute, trying to let her finish.
Finally, when she was done, she faced Drahon and then looked at the branches of a tree.
The moment was as awkward and cringe as you can think.
She wasn’t bothered though, but Drahon was still nervous.
Finally, he mustered the courage to ask her.
"You a player or an NPC?"
She gave him a strange half-smile, part frown, part amusement, and looked at Drahon’s horns. She had stared at it earlier, but now she was doing so very keenly, like she was nervous herself but in some cool way.
Then she said:
"Finally, a fellow half-dragon in this godforsaken world."
Drahon furrowed his brow. Why would she say that? Was she a half-dragon too?
Just then, she pulled her hair to the back and Drahon could now see two medium-sized horns, much smaller than his, on her forehead.
