Chapter 40: Critical World Event Triggered !

Drahon gave the mages refuge and even recruited them. Still, his mind replayed the mage’s words again and again,.the slaughter, the lone figure cloaked in black and fire, the demand for the Golden Dragon egg. No matter how he sliced it, the conclusion was the same.

Devon.

He stood at the arched window of the old war tower, the wind tugging at his cloak as he stared at the distant horizon. Grey clouds gathered, rumbling softly.

Behind him, the faint hum of activity filled the stone hall, people tending wounds, soldiers sharpening blades, but his mind was far away.

Why Devon? How was he allowed to use his dragon while I can’t even summon mine?

Drahon was seemingly confused at this point; everything made no sense.

And just when he wanted to conclude what to do,

Large words in italics hung in the clouds:

[SYSTEM NOTICE]

— Critical World Event Triggered —

> Primary Realm Structure Destabilized

> Demon Half-Dragon Monsters Escaped

> Resetting Local Constructs...

Drahon’s breath caught.

What!?

He backed away from the window, eyes wide as the sky outside shimmered like glass under strain, like it was glitching.

A strange vibration moved through the stone floor, low and steady, like something was unraveling beneath the kingdom.

Then he heard...

A low, resonating hum, not too loud (maybe in-between), but it clawed at the bones. The very walls of the tower seemed to stretch. Drahon turned sharply, stepping toward the heavy wooden door that led outside.

He pulled it open.

The courtyard was already changing.

The castle gates, once iron-clad and engraved with dragon sigils, wavered like reflections on disturbed water. Stone pillars dissolved into strands of golden dust, floating upwards like fireflies. The banners of his house faded mid-flutter, as if they’d never existed.

He descended the steps slowly.

One of the stable boys turned to him, eyes filled with confusion.

"M’lord?"...

...before his body unraveled, scattering like ashes in the wind. Drahon stopped walking; he was stupefied.

More were fading. Guards near the archery range vanished mid-motion. A baker dropped a tray of bread that never hit the floor—he was gone before it could.

"Liora!" he called, but the name echoed with no response.

He was panicking real bad.

What the fuck was going on!?

The mages, some of them stood still, others began to panic. Marwen stood firm by the courtyard well, his face grim, hands glowing faintly as if trying to resist the pull. But one by one, even the strongest among them flickered.

Galen reached for his sword, shouting something, but then his body thinned out, as if someone had erased a painting with a single swipe.

Drahon’s knees nearly buckled.

They were real.

He had spoken to them. Gazed at them. Slept under the same roof.

Were they truly just NPCs?

No.

Weren’t the people in the dragon world real?

What was happening?

And yet, whatever was doing this did not care.

More messages blinked.

> Clearing artificial constructs...

> Players must now proceed without support.

> System balancing in progress.

His kingdom was dying.

No, it was being erased!

As the keep behind him began to crack apart into thin streams of light, Drahon clenched his jaw.

"What’s happening?" he muttered. "This world’s not real?"

He turned toward the last flickers of light, Liora’s silhouette vanishing into nothing, and stood speechless. Now what?

[Level two objective have been canceled]

[Kingdom building is fortified]

Drahon stared at the sky. All around him was now ashes. Ashes of what was formerly here.

Some seconds ago, he was a lord, now he just stood in the remnant of that short-lived memory, surprised.

He wasn’t sad though, just shocked at what was happening, trying to wrap his head around all this.

What exactly was going on...?

The aim of level two was to rule over kingdoms, command medieval armies, go to war and..., now?

It was all gone.

The words in the sky slowly flickered away and Drahon looked around him more keenly.

It was just blank.

All the houses had withered and this was the thing that was surprising him the most. How was it possible?

How was it possible for the whole thing to just wither like that?

Or was this, after all, some simulation?

The demon dragon that attacked the mage had told her that all this was not real, that they were mainly NPCs.

He had regarded the demon dragon lord as a person, but now, that wasn’t the case.

That had not been Devon...

Further ahead were trees, and they led to forests.

Drahon decided that there would be many enemies in there..., wild clans and...

He thought again.

Wasn’t this all erased?

To be honest, he had more to learn about this world than he knew..., a whole damn lot.

Runes flickered in front of him now, large and bold...

[You were earlier in a simulation. Everything wasn’t real.]

Drahon gazed at the words and was slightly angry.

The fuck was wrong with this game?

[But it was mainly so that this would serve as a level. But then, the five mythical eggs are real. They are very real...]

Drahon frowned, trying to understand...

[The eggs are real, very much real, but they were earlier scattered across this place and you guys were asked to look for it.]

Drahon spat on the ground and shook his head.

The man he had supposedly seen in his dream must have told him 50% of this world, but he had to learn himself,.and right now, the game was being vague as hell!

"Why were we told to search for it?"

[Because someone is also looking for it.]

Drahon scoffed. Funny how the words were replying to him, alright.

"Then if it’s that urgent, then why were we told to roleplay? I mean, it’s urgent and you make us engage in some shit for it."

[So that there would be a bit of difficulty.]

Drahon tried to calm himself down.

[A legendary half-dragon and his legion of dragon monsters have escaped and they are after it.]’

’[He had been in prison for years for his crimes in the dragon world.]’

[He was once the leader of the legendary dragon—

[Lord Valcvan.]’
