Chapter 465: Chapter 465: You Don’t Teach Your Slave Very Well
Wufu was frightened, she had clearly spent silver to hire someone to work. How did it turn into causing someone’s death?
Liu Sheng and his sister were also terrified, their eyes showing panic, but they did not cry, especially Liu Sheng, who pursed his lips tightly and clenched his fists at his sides.
"That Yu Zhen is a petty man, and a petty man naturally does petty things. You, he wouldn’t bother coming to find you, but a little beggar..." Ah Jiu glanced at Liu Sheng, then lowered her eyelids, "Killing him would be as easy as moving one’s lips."
Liu Sheng’s dirty face turned pale, and his sister Liu Ye began to cry softly.
"Are you saying this is my fault?" Wufu pointed at herself.
"That’s not quite right to say either. After all, it was a willing transaction, with no fault on the people involved." Ah Jiu looked toward Liu Sheng.
Liu Sheng gritted his teeth and said, "Sir is right. Since I’ve taken your silver, it’s natural that I should work for you. Whether I’m beaten or whether I live or die, it’s all on me to bear." He glanced at his sister, his eyes carrying a hint of apology.
Ah Jiu, hearing this, quietly nodded in approval.
Wufu frowned.
"Yezi, let’s go." Liu Sheng pulled his sister to her feet and started walking toward the door. If worse came to worst, they would leave this place; he didn’t believe that man would still be able to find them.
"Hold on." Wufu stopped him.
Liu Sheng froze in his tracks.
Wufu walked to the window and looked at the bustling street. A fat man dressed in finery was slapping a child who had bumped into him, the child crying loudly.
"Come here." Wufu beckoned.
Liu Sheng walked over, and Wufu pointed at the man, "If you can steal that fat man’s purse without him noticing, I’ll keep you."
Liu Sheng’s eyes lit up, he agreed and immediately ran down with his sister.
Ah Jiu came to Wufu’s side, asking, "Is buying two people really such a hassle?"
"I may want to open a shelter, but I need to recruit useful people. Let’s see what skills they have," Wufu replied.
Ah Jiu raised an eyebrow and watched.
He saw Liu Ye crying and running to the fat man, grabbing his sleeve and calling him ’daddy’ and begging him not to sell her.
The fat man was clearly annoyed and pushed her to the ground. The little girl quickly got back up and hugged his waist, crying and shouting.
Meanwhile, Liu Sheng ran over, pulled Liu Ye away, and, bowing and scraping, apologized to the fat man, saying his sister was crazy, calling any man with a beard ’daddy’, and then he dragged her away, disappearing into the crowd.
Ah Jiu chuckled, "They do have a bit of cunning."
While the little girl had hugged the man’s waist, her hand had swiftly taken his purse, and Liu Sheng had come up with his banter to successfully distract.
Wufu huffed and sat back down, waiting for them to return.
Liu Sheng soon returned, handing over the purse, "Miss, the task is accomplished without dishonor."
Wufu raised an eyebrow, impressed by his eloquence, and asked, "How old are you?"
"I’m fourteen this year."
"I turned twelve," said Liu Ye, her eyes wet with tears.
Wufu was stunned for a moment; they were that old? Seeing how thin and frail they were, she had thought they were much younger, especially Liu Ye, whom she had assumed was around eight or nine.
Was this all due to malnutrition from not having enough to eat?
"Yuan Ye, take them to complete the deed of sale," Ah Jiu instructed.
"Yes."
After the two had left, Ah Jiu said, "You have to trust me. Leave these two to me, and let me train them."
Wufu was surprised.
"The ways you train your servants are really not up to snuff," Ah Jiu boldly stated.
Wufu was furious!
