Chapter 455: Chapter 455: Meeting the Rival
After the feast to cleanse away the dust of travel, a good night’s rest was had. The next day, Shopkeeper Lin personally came to fetch Wufu and first took her to the Jade and Stone Chamber of Commerce to check in and confirm her slot in the competition.
The Chamber of Commerce was a four-story building. To display the extravagance of the Chamber, white jade stairs were used, and the interior was even more splendidly decorated. Adorned with jade and various colored gems, it was a showcase of both warmth and ostentatious luxury, nearly blinding Wufu with its brilliance.
The roll call went smoothly. One only needed to report the name of the participating business, along with the name of the competitor, and receive a competition entry badge. That counted as a successful registration.
The entry badge was also exquisitely made from small-leaf sandalwood, into which a small piece of jade had been inlaid, while the competitor’s name was inscribed on the back. This was based on the initial list of registrants when signing up for the competition, so only the names of the competitors were engraved, ensuring that no one else could participate using the badge.
This was an identity verification as well.
Wufu examined her badge, turning it over in her hands. She had heard that it also served as a commemorative item, which was not bad at all.
"Miss Wufu, you must take good care of this badge. If you lose it, you won’t be able to enter," Shopkeeper Lin cautioned.
"Don’t worry." After looking at the badge for a while, Wufu tucked it into her bosom. She didn’t want two months of her hard work to be wasted over a lost badge.
With registration successful, they prepared to leave. But Wufu suddenly halted her steps and looked in a certain direction.
In the northeast corner, a middle-aged man around forty was staring at her. When she looked over, he arrogantly turned his gaze away, his demeanor so haughty it couldn’t get any worse.
"Shopkeeper Lin, who is that man?" Wufu pulled on Shopkeeper Lin’s sleeve and nudged in the man’s direction with her mouth.
Shopkeeper Lin followed her gaze and his expression changed when he saw the man. Speaking in a lowered voice, he said, "That is Mr. Lin Gonyun’s chief disciple, Yu Zhen. I hear he is representing Thousand Treasures Tower in this competition."
"Oh?" Wufu raised her eyebrows and said, "This means he also jumped ship from your Silver House, right?"
"Ah?" Jumped ship?
"That means switched sides," Wufu explained, saying, "Lin Gonyun was previously from your Hundred Treasures Silver Building but now has gone to another house, taking his own disciples with him. So, your Silver Building is considered their former employer, right!"
"You could say that!" Shopkeeper Lin had an epiphany.
"How skilled is that person?" Wufu inquired.
Shopkeeper Lin frowned and said, "Yu Zhen has exceptional talent, and his craftsmanship is not bad, having inherited at least six parts of Mr. Lin Gonyun’s true teachings."
"If his talent is so exceptional, why only six parts?" Wufu laughed lightly. If his talent truly was exceptional, but he only mastered six parts, then either that was his limit, or the so-called master didn’t impart all his skills.
Tsk, how stingy!
Shopkeeper Lin forced a smile, knowing not everyone was as exceptional as her. At such a young age, she was on par with craftsmen who had been immersed in their craft for decades. Hence, he gave her some earnest praise, "Certainly, she cannot compare to the lady. However, in this competition, he is indeed a very strong opponent."
"Having an opponent is what makes it interesting, having an opponent is what leads to improvement. I actually want to see what kind of remarkable piece he’s carved out with such arrogance. Let’s go!" Wufu gave Yu Zhen a deep look and left without looking back.
Watching Wufu leave, Yu Zhen snorted through his nose, a brat still wet behind the ears, and wondered how she would embarrass the Hundred Treasures Silver Building. His eyes spun around, and he summoned his servant, whispering several instructions. The latter hastily acknowledged and retreated.
