Chapter 453: Chapter 453: Struck a Large Sum

Watching as Wufu held the iron Token with the look of a money-grubber, everyone couldn’t help but avert their eyes in impatience; her love for money was, frankly, a bit...too fawning!

Wufu examined the Token over and over before speaking, "You’re not trying to fool us, are you? Just fobbing us off with some useless scrap iron?"

She had to be cautious, after all; the Token did not look impressive, and who knew if it could actually draw any Silver? If it turned out to be fake, wouldn’t all her efforts be in vain?

The young man’s face darkened as he retorted, "Even if nothing else, we know the importance of keeping our word."

"Rest assured, Miss," Uncle Qian reassured her once again, "you can indeed withdraw Silver with this Token."

Wufu turned to Ah Jiu, who took a glance at the Token, nodded, and said, "It’s a steward’s Token from the first Imperial Merchant, the Qian Family; it can’t be fake."

Having said that, he handed the Token back to Wufu.

Wufu immediately cherished it in her bosom, even patting it fondly; twenty thousand taels—that was a fortune! Even if she shared some with Su Luo and the others, she’d still get a substantial share.

Uncle Qian glanced at Ah Jiu and, paying respects, asked, "The young master is well-informed; may I know your honored surname?"

"Our meeting is but a chance encounter at the waterside," replied Ah Jiu without revealing his true identity or name, "thus they address me as ’Ninth Master.’"

Seeing his response, Uncle Qian understood it was not appropriate to pry further. The other party knew the origin of the Token, suggesting that his identity was layered with secrets. It was just unclear which family’s young master he might be.

And this little lady in front of him had not yet reached the age of marriage, yet her Kung Fu was mysterious and indiscernible, with her moves being deadly and decisive.

Neither were to be trifled with!

Uncle Qian reined in his inquisitive thoughts, bowed to Ah Jiu and the others, then sat down with his young master to the side, closed his eyes to rest, waiting for dawn.

However, after just a short snooze, it was already getting light. Uncle Qian shamelessly asked them for a carriage, naturally offering compensation.

Wufu’s carriage was small, hence it was sent off like that. Now, they could only crowd into Ah Jiu’s carriage.

"I’ll just borrow it for now; once we get to the city, I’ll buy another one," Wufu said to Ah Jiu with a smile.

Ah Jiu, reclining lazily on the welcoming pillow, said, "That’s only right. Miss Wufu has hit a big jackpot. Aren’t I entitled to be treated to a grand feast by then?" He had learned these words from Wufu herself.

"Sure!" Wufu laughed, "That guy diverted the water to force us into action; one way or another, we’d have to make a move. Since that’s the case, why should I save him any trouble? It’s not my style to not fleece him when I have every reason to act."

"And if he refuses? What would you do then?" asked Ah Jiu.

"Then we’d run! They’re after him, not us. They couldn’t possibly chase us, right?" huffed Wufu lightly.

Ah Jiu’s lips curved into a slight smirk, "Asking for a lion’s share, as if it is only natural."

"We’ve got more people. The share won’t amount to much when divided," Wufu wasn’t planning on keeping it all to herself.

Ah Jiu raised an eyebrow but remained silent.

Meanwhile, Uncle Qian and his companion watched Wufu and her group depart, preparing to leave as well.

"Uncle Qian, how can there be such shameless and brazen girls? Robbing us amidst chaos, completely devoid of the spirit of chivalry," the youth spat bitterly.

Uncle Qian replied, "Young Master, in this world, all hustle and bustle is for profit. If they lend us a hand, they rectify injustice; if not, they’re still in the right—we cannot coerce them. Money is trivial compared to life, and so it is with favors. In fact, I admire that girl’s way of doing things. Look, they provided effort, we provided Silver; neither owes the other. Isn’t that quite fair?"

The youth pursed his lips, "Uncle Qian, I understand, but it’s just...what sort of woman is she!" So ruthless.

"Many more characters can be found in Jianghu, Young Master. You will encounter even more in the future," Uncle Qian said as he climbed onto the carriage, "Let’s go. We shouldn’t let this loss go in vain!"
