Chapter 447: Chapter 447: Wufu Feels Embarrassed

Wufu was invited by Ah Jiu to his spacious carriage for tea. The interior was roomy, complete with small tables and welcoming pillows; at the moment, a red clay stove was bubbling away, boiling water, the charcoal heating the whole carriage to a cozy warmth, creating a stark contrast to the icy, snowy white world outside.

The man seated opposite her at the Yellow Pear Wood table was clad in a purple brocade robe, his hair wrapped in a Purple Jade Hairpin. He held up his sleeves with one hand while pouring tea with the other, his movements flowing smoothly like clouds and water, quite a feast for the eyes.

Resting her cheek on her hand, Wufu admired the view. Indeed, beauty was pleasing to the eye. Someone who was born attractive seemed pleasing in everything they did.

The aroma of the tea wafted through the carriage, and before her appeared a white jade teacup, the tea within clear and fragrant, its aroma hitting her nose.

"Please," said Ah Jiu, extending his hand.

Wufu didn’t hold back, picking up the cup and taking a sip. The tea rolled around her tongue, and she smiled in praise, "Good tea!"

"This is Lushan Cloud Mist Tea, grown behind the renowned Donglin Temple. Only two pounds are produced each year," Ah Jiu explained the origin of the tea with a smile.

"Grown behind a temple, wouldn’t it be nurtured by the Buddha’s teachings, absorbing sutras day and night? No wonder it tastes so fragrant and seems filled with Buddha’s grace," Wufu quipped, raising an eyebrow.

When it came to boasting, she knew a thing or two about subtleties.

Ah Jiu paused, holding back a laugh, "That’s quite a novel way of putting it."

Talking about being filled with Buddha’s grace? She made it sound so credible.

Wufu chuckled, "I was just kidding," and picked up a piece of Cloud Mountain Cake from the porcelian dish he pushed towards her, melting in her mouth as she ate. She asked, "Why bother with travel when you arrange your journeys to be so comfortable?"

"Miss, you speak amiss. One must never mistreat oneself. Life is but a few decades short, why not enjoy it if one can?" Ah Jiu said.

He was right. If you’ve got the silver, who would choose to suffer unnecessarily?

But how about that time you were half-dead in the mountains, and it was this old lady that came to your rescue? How would you explain that?

"You’re right, it looks like I need to earn more silver too. Get myself a carriage like this and really enjoy life," Wufu said, stretching out her legs and propping her hands behind her, looking up. My goodness, the large pearl embedded in the ceiling, could it be a Luminous Pearl?

This flaunting of wealth was asking to be robbed!

Ah Jiu watched her sit without concern for her image and withdrew his gaze, saying, "I’ve said before, follow me, and Wufu will enjoy wealth and honor, exalted by luxury."

Wufu glanced at him sidelong.

"What are you going to the city for?" she inquired, ignoring his previous statement.

"It’s a grand event that happens only once every five years. I’m free, so why not take a look?" Ah Jiu didn’t mind that she hadn’t engaged with his remark and continued, "Besides, I also want to see if you can win first place in this competition."

He definitely didn’t want to go just because she was competing.

"The world is full of Skilled Craftsmen, I’m not so arrogant," said Wufu.

She was competing, naturally aiming for first place, but she wouldn’t arrogantly assume she’d win it. After all, the world was full of unknowns and surprises.

"Yet, I have confidence in Wufu," Ah Jiu’s voice carried a magnetic quality.

Wufu looked at him askance. What was with him today? His words were as sweet as honey, cloyingly so.

Ah Jiu let her scrutinize him, not avoiding her gaze; in the carriage, the temperature seemed to suddenly rise, getting warmer.

Feeling sheepish, Wufu turned her gaze away, "I’ve read that scholars say the best tea is made with snow water. I’ll go get some for you." Without waiting for his response, she leapt out of the carriage.

Just as she jumped out, she heard a low chuckle emanating from inside the carriage and couldn’t help but feel her face grow hot.
