Chapter 387: Chapter 387: Just a Craftsman

Lan Shu was dissatisfied with Wufu’s rules of conduct, and Wufu was also pondering. The look in that Chief Maid’s eyes just now, could it be that she was expected to kneel to Wen Congrui as well?

Wufu felt like laughing. Even Madam Zhou, her biological mother, had not received a kneel from her during her long stay.

Shopkeeper Lin belonged to the Wen Family, and kneel he did. But Wufu was not one of them. Even if Shopkeeper Lin claimed she was half an artisan of Hundred Treasures Silver Building, that was just a casual remark; she had no contract with the Silver House. As for carving, it was nothing more than a business transaction: you pay, I carve.

So kneel down to pay respects?

Impossible!

The Floral Hall seemed odd, with Shopkeeper Lin kneeling to pay respects to Wen Congrui while Wufu stood still like a casual stroller, motionless. The scene was bizarre no matter how one looked at it.

A flash of dark light sparked in the depth of Wen Congrui’s eyes. The maid was still the same girl he had met before, who had shared a brief encounter with him, still wild and full of personality. Whatever she did, she carried herself with ease.

After being beckoned up by Wen Congrui, Shopkeeper Lin had already risen. Only then did Wufu step forward to greet Wen Congrui with a curtsy.

"Wufu has seen Lord Wen." Before Wufu’s knee fully bent, her hand touched her waist for a moment, and the greeting was complete; she stood straight again.

Lan Shu saw this and his face showed surprise.

Such perfunctory manners during an introduction—hadn’t Shopkeeper Lin taught her any etiquette when he brought her here?

"No need for formalities, please take a seat. Serve the tea," Wen Congrui said with a faint smile.

Wufu sat in the chair below Shopkeeper Lin’s, and a servant promptly served the tea and snacks.

"Lord, Miss Wufu has moved with her mother to Fourth Happiness Alley. Hearing that you have become our Huayang’s parental official, she came along with this old servant to offer congratulations," Shopkeeper Lin began with customary pleasantries.

Wufu smiled and turned towards Wen Congrui, saying, "Last time, I caught but a glimpse outside the city walls and did not get to pay my respects to you, for which I apologize." With that, she stood up and bowed again.

By mentioning this, Wen Congrui recalled the first major case he took on after becoming an official, the Flower-Picking Thief case. It had earned him impressive merit, even gaining Prefect’s high praise.

Observing Wufu’s smile, Wen Congrui felt a momentary haze, and it brought to mind the person who had helped him solve the case, presenting him with a significant gift.

That Mr. Squirrel...

Her smile did resemble his.

"At that time, I too was occupied with official duties," Wen Congrui said, smiling lightly.

Lan Shu listened to this at the side, somewhat astonished. They knew each other from before?

And the young master’s tone, it was far too gentle.

Lan Shu silently glanced at Wen Congrui and, spotting the smile in his eyes, felt a startle in his heart. He instinctively looked towards Wufu, his brow furrowing slightly.

"Lan Shu, go instruct to prepare the lunch. Keep Shopkeeper Lin and Miss Wufu for the meal before they leave," Wen Congrui instructed.

Lan Shu responded with a warm, genial smile and withdrew.

Standing at the entrance of the Floral Hall, she ordered a maid to relay the message to the kitchen. Meanwhile, she listened to the light laughter coming from inside and felt her face darkening slightly.

Since when had the young master changed his disposition, showing such cordiality to a girl ignorant of manners? Wasn’t he someone who detested a lack of decorum the most?

For some reason, Lan Shu felt an irritation stirring within her, wanting to turn back to the Floral Hall to listen in on their conversation. Yet, reason told her not to act rashly and not to displease the young master.

Gently biting her lip, Lan Shu exhaled slowly and recomposed her smile, stepping out of the Floral Hall courtyard.

She was just a craftsman—why the unnecessary worry?

Within the Floral Hall, everyone was oblivious to the myriad thoughts of the little maid, while Wen Congrui brought up a matter that caused Wufu to freeze.
