Chapter 258: Chapter 258: Coming to Snatch Food
Hearing Wufu’s loud shout, the incoming fist stopped abruptly right in front of Wufu’s nose.
"Do you recognize me?" Hoo Die asked, slightly stunned as she looked at her.
Indeed, the newcomer was Hoo Die, the guard by Ah Jiu’s side. Wufu exhaled a long breath—damn, she almost suffered a loss at the hands of one of her own.
Well, even if not one of her own, it was someone familiar. To suffer a loss like that would have been a true injustice.
"Speak, who are you? How do you know me?" Hoo Die stared at the fox-faced lad in front of her, sizing him up from top to bottom. He didn’t recognize him, though.
Wufu stood up straight and, with a look that said she wouldn’t give up until she got an answer, thought for a moment, then pushed her mask up to reveal her face.
If Wen Congrui had been there, she probably wouldn’t have shown her face, but Hoo Die—she wasn’t afraid. Or rather, she wasn’t afraid of letting Ah Jiu know about her.
And to go deeper, she wanted Ah Jiu to know what she was doing, what she could do. After all, she was someone about to take up her old trade, and instinctively, she felt that Ah Jiu knowing could only bring good, not harm.
Hoo Die cocked her head to look and then shook it, "Don’t recognize you." But with a face full of excitement, she said, "Kid, what was that martial arts skill you just used? Interesting. Let’s spar again."
He had never seen such strange moves before, and he was eager to fight and test his strength against him.
Wufu nearly spat out a mouthful of old blood. This big oaf... such an idiot.
"Fight what, you’re not tired, but I damn well am. Him, hey..." Wufu pointed at Coffin Guy on the ground, but the man was gone, and out of the corner of her eye, she saw him trying to escape the cellar. She quickly shouted, "Catch him, that’s the Flower-Picking Thief."
As soon as her words fell, Hoo Die flicked a pebble from his hand, not knowing where it hit Coffin Guy, who then suddenly fell with a crash.
Wufu breathed a sigh of relief—the five hundred taels were still secure.
"He can’t run away. Come on, let’s fight again," Hoo Die excitedly got ready.
Wufu rolled her eyes, really wanting to crack open his head to see if he was an idiot.
"Did Ninth Master send you here to fight?" Wufu saw how excited he got and feared he’d forgotten his purpose. She had to bring up his master to remind him.
This person surely hadn’t appeared here for no reason; was he sent by his master?
As expected, at the mention of ’Ninth Master,’ Hoo Die’s face instantly lost its idiotic expression, and a sharp glint flashed in his eyes, "Who exactly are you?"
He sized up Wufu again, knowing she recognized his master.
Wufu felt somewhat proud. Could it be that her makeup skills could actually fool people in this era?
But what she didn’t know was that the lighting here was poor, and Hoo Die was originally face blind, which is why he didn’t recognize her at first.
"I, we have met once before," she spoke in her own voice.
We have met once before, Hoo Die stared at her face, a hint of a realization flickering in his mind, but before he could fully remember, Wufu asked, "What are you doing here?"
"Of course, I’m here to capture the Flower-Picking Thief," Hoo Die puffed out his chest, proudly saying, "I’ve figured out who the Flower-Picking Thief is, all by myself."
Wufu’s eyes flickered nonstop upon hearing this. After all, she had investigated for several days, painstakingly piecing clues together to catch the man. And just when the duck was almost in her mouth, before she could swallow it, someone appeared, aiming to snatch her prey.
Having crossed hands just now, Wufu knew she was probably not a match for this big, silly fellow. If they really started fighting, she likely wouldn’t come out on top.
But the urgent matter at hand was to report to the officials and claim the Reward.
Thinking of this, Wufu said, "I was here before you and already caught him." She pointed to the row of glass bottles, "Those parts cut from the female corpses, this bastard has been using them to soak in liquor."
Looking in the direction she pointed, a fierce light flashed in Hoo Die’s eyes as he cursed, "Damn his mother."
