Chapter 253: Chapter 253: Body Buried Under the Bed

The night was deep and silent, the candlelight flickered gently in the breeze, casting a ghostly atmosphere in the deserted Li Family mansion.

Wufu lay on the ground, examining the floor tile in front of her. She then turned her attention to the clearly loose tile under the bed, pursing her lips slightly.

Should she pry it open?

There’s a saying, "Curiosity killed the cat," and her gut told her that she should leave at this moment. Otherwise, the secret beneath would suffocate her.

But Wufu was like the proverbial cat with nine lives; knowing there was a secret, she probably wouldn’t be able to sleep without taking a glance.

As a result, she placed the oil lamp under the bed and propped herself up on her elbows, inching further inside.

When she reached the tile, she lay on the ground, stretched out her hand, and lifted it easily, without any effort.

Wufu wasn’t surprised; she had suspected as much when she saw the crack.

After prying away two tiles, she found sand and clay beneath, and a faint musty smell began to waft into her nostrils.

"Damn it!" Wufu couldn’t help but curse.

Her hand moved to disturb the sand above, and after a moment, she softly exclaimed, "Holy shit!"

Thud!

As she reflexively jerked upward, her head smacked against the wooden bed base. Wufu yelped in pain, retreated from under the bed, and sat on the ground.

Grimacing, she rubbed the sore spot on her head, then lowered herself down again to peer into the small pit she had uncovered in the dirt. Inside it lay the white bones of a human hand.

It wasn’t hard to imagine what the secret under the bed was.

Though somewhat braced for it, Wufu still felt a bit depressed. This wasn’t a horror movie, yet she had stumbled upon a body hidden under a bed?

"Others transmigrate into romance stories, and you into solving cases," Wufu muttered sarcastically to herself.

She then put her hands together, bowed toward the space under the bed, and mumbled, "Could you please wait a little longer? At most, you’ll see the light of day the day after tomorrow." She needed to confirm more information before reporting this secret to Wen Si; otherwise, alerting the enemy prematurely would be a wasted effort.

Having said this, she covered up the exposed earth, returned the tiles to their place, and left the East Wing to check the other areas.

Wufu had searched the entire Li Family mansion, and apart from the East Wing, she found nothing else.

If Coffin Guy was indeed the Flower-Picking Thief as she suspected, then aside from the secret beneath the bed, his other crimes likely wouldn’t occur within this mansion. After all, this was his home, and he would have more suitable places for wrongdoing.

As for whose body it was under the bed, aside from Madam Zhang, who had run off, Wufu couldn’t think of anyone else.

And this Madam Zhang, could she be the factor that led to Coffin Guy’s serial crimes?

Wufu found it very likely, as several points in her analysis matched up.

The Coffin Guy fit the criminal profile she had in mind perfectly.

But now, with the city gates already closed, it was impossible to go to the Mortuary; it would have to wait until tomorrow.

The Mortuary, was it really Coffin Guy’s secret hideout as she anticipated?

Wufu was somewhat looking forward to it, almost visualizing the five hundred white specks of Silver flying towards her.

Had anyone else witnessed the scene, they probably would have heavily criticized her. Other women would have gone mad or, at the very least, reported to the authorities after a solitary night’s investigation and encountering a dead person’s bones.

But Wufu, as if she saw nothing at all, could even put the matter aside like it was nothing, waiting to catch everything in one swoop—such endurance was remarkable.

What was even more outrageous was her thoughts of Silver—the woman truly had a heart of stone!
