Chapter 147: Chapter 147 Who Actually Had Bad Luck?
As soon as Second Sister-in-law Lu’s words were spoken, the room fell silent for a moment as everyone recalled Madam Zhou’s generosity.
In the homes of farming families, for an auntie of such status, living alone with her daughter and still being so generous with money, indeed attracted attention.
However, now was not the time to discuss that matter, but whether Wufu was a monster.
Seeing that the Second Sister-in-law had also spoken up, Third Sister-in-law Lu concurred, "Second Sister-in-law makes some sense, that kind of background, it’s not strange for her temperament to be so unusual."
Both sisters-in-law were speaking up for that despicable girl, which displeased Madam Lu, who said, "Second Sister-in-law, Third Sister-in-law, why are you both taking her side? Do I not know what kind of person she is better than you do?"
It was truly frustrating; even though they were family, they sided with that wretched girl and spoke on her behalf, turning their elbows out instead of in.
"Little Sister, it’s not that we are taking her side, but without any solid evidence, just claiming she is a monster because of her drastic change in temperament doesn’t make sense," Third Sister-in-law Lu scoffed inwardly, thinking how foolish the young auntie was, yet said politely, "Even if she knows some tricks, the fact that she and her mother live over there and what kind of people they come across, what sort of luck they get, it’s hard to say. Besides, if a person doesn’t stand up for themselves, they’ll end up being bullied."
In Third Sister-in-law Lu’s opinion, given the reputation which made her the target of everyone’s contempt, if one didn’t stand up for oneself, one would indeed be bullied by everyone. Therefore, it wasn’t wrong for Wufu to be assertive; who would want to be the one that’s bullied?
Madam Lu sneered, "With their bad luck, what kind of fortune could they possibly obtain?"
"They certainly have some financial luck, just look how generous your young auntie is with her money," Eldest Sister-in-law Lu interjected.
Madam Lu was taken aback; indeed, it was because of money that she had been harmed by Wufu.
"Another thing, Little Sister, if she really is a monster, that’s not something we can broadcast!" Third Sister-in-law Lu hesitated before adding.
"What do you mean by that?" Everyone looked at her.
"After all, they are tied by blood. Dajun and Xiuxiu are at the age to get married. If it gets around, could it affect them?" Third Sister-in-law Lu looked at Old Lady Lu and said, "Mom, I’m just worried about the kids. I’m thinking ahead, nothing more."
Eldest Sister-in-law Lu pursed her lips, always so smooth at flattering—it was no wonder the mother-in-law favored the third branch of the family.
Old Lady Lu frowned and after a long pause said, "Your Third Sister-in-law also has a point, we can’t let Dajun and the others have their reputations dragged down because of this!"
Now truly infuriated, Madam Lu snapped, "I always knew she was trouble, always bringing misfortune upon the Zhou family, before and even now."
"This matter still needs to be discussed with your mother-in-law," someone said.
"She’s just stubborn on the surface, but inside she’s like a steam bun, weak and useless," Madam Lu huffed, "If you ask me, we should just drive them out, and stop bringing up father’s last wishes."
"Regardless, a daughter married off is like water poured away. Zhou Yingmei might not have gone through the formal wedding ceremony, but she’s no longer a member of the Zhou family, and Wufu has even less right to carry the Zhou name. Our connection is only so slight, what does her behavior have to do with the Old Zhou family?"
Old Lady Lu shook her head; this daughter was so hot-headed.
"If you want to talk about it, only do so within the family, not outside. These are not distant relatives, but direct blood relations, you must still consider your own family," Old Lady Lu said.
Seething, Madam Lu plunked herself down, "It’s truly my bad luck to end up with such a younger auntie."
As these words fell, the several sisters-in-law of the Lu Family all bowed their heads slightly, murmuring to themselves, wasn’t that the truth!
