Chapter 141: Avoid Their Sharp Edge

Chapter 141: Chapter 141: Avoid Their Sharp Edge

It is commonly said that one should kneel to the heavens, the earth, and one’s parents, Wufu knew this, but although she knew, she had never actually kneeled to anyone in either of her two lifetimes.

And in this ancient era, she also knew that kneeling before one’s elders and kowtowing was the most ordinary thing to do.

However, what was ordinary for other people was difficult for Wufu.

If it were an elder she respected, then kneeling would not be an issue, for she was not a man to believe in the saying that "one’s knees are worth gold."

But who were these people? They were the people who wished she would disappear forever. Could Wufu actually kneel to such people?

That was simply laughable!

As a small cushion was placed at Wufu’s feet, the room suddenly became quiet, and all eyes fell on her.

Wufu smiled, lifted her head, and her dark eyes gazed at the person in front of her.

Somehow, some people felt the air turn colder all of a sudden, and they rubbed their arms uneasily.

And even more uneasy was Old Lady Zhou. Especially when she met Wufu’s clear and cold gaze, although Wufu didn’t say anything, Old Lady Zhou was even more afraid.

She remembered how Wufu had broken Madam Lu’s finger the day before yesterday and couldn’t help shivering, cursing her daughter-in-law in her heart for poking the bear, forgetting the pain as soon as the wound healed and daring to provoke her!

And there were her relatives too, sticking their noses in where they didn’t belong as guests at the banquet, each of them no better than the others, intent on embarrassing her.

Old Lady Zhou was so angry that her body trembled slightly, and she stared fiercely at Madam Lu, "Haven’t you taken your sister-in-law and your niece to their seats yet? Those welcoming the bride will soon be back!"

Old Lady Lu felt that something was amiss. What was happening? It seemed like Old Madam Zhou had lost her nerve?

That shouldn’t be! Old Madam Zhou always prided herself as the Scholar’s Mother, usually so haughty and putting on airs. As far as she knew, she disliked and looked down on the mother and daughter before her.

But now, why did she seem to be avoiding conflict?

No wonder Old Lady Lu was unclear. Wufu’s previous tantrum had happened the day before yesterday, and with Zhou Xueli getting married today, Old Lady Zhou was anxious to avoid any major incidents, so she kept Madam Lu from returning to her mother’s house to complain.

Therefore, as soon as she entered on this occasion, Madam Zhou arrived on her heels, leaving Madam Lu no chance to speak to her family about the treatment she had suffered.

Without speaking, how could they know about Wufu’s transformation?

Old Lady Lu was unable to make sense of it and looked at Wufu with questions in her eyes.

Wufu also looked back at her. She certainly hadn’t forgotten that it was this old woman who had started the trouble!

In that mutual gaze, Old Lady Lu’s pupils shrank, and she forgot to breathe.

This girl...

Her eyes were so terrifying, looking at people as if she was looking at the dead.

As Old Lady Lu held her breath, her face turned red until her daughter-in-law noticed something was wrong and called out to her, bringing her back to her senses and to breathe again. She gasped for breath, resulting in a bout of violent coughing that broke the quiet in the room.

"Old Lady, do you want me to kneel to greet you?" Wufu gently kicked the cushion in front of her feet.

Old Lady Zhou’s heart skipped a beat with her movement.

She heard the threat behind Wufu’s words, knowing that if she said yes, her youngest son’s wedding today could turn into a laughing stock.

"What are you saying, child? I know you have a filial nature, go outside and play with Xiuxiu," Old Lady Zhou forced a smile and said affectionately.

As these words were spoken, everyone present knew it was a way out.

Old Lady Lu looked at her with some astonishment. Now she could confirm that Old Madam Zhou was really making room to avoid conflict, but why?

What had happened that she didn’t know about?

Just then, a loud voice came from outside: "The bride has been brought back!"
