Chapter 1399: Chapter 1396: The ‘Trump Card’ to Convince Brother-in-law (Extra 4)
"Who is your wife—," Lily’s face quickly flashed with shyness.
"How is it not... You accepted the ring, and now you want to return it? Huh?"
"I will, soon..."
Just as Lily was about to say ’return it,’ she thought of the man who left the ring behind and found herself unable to utter the words ’return it’ no matter what.
Aidan’s eyes flickered slightly, his lips curled up as he said, "Lily, do you remember what I said last night? I love you, and in this lifetime, I will only love Lily Redington. I told you that I needed to hear your answer today, and you aren’t allowed to refuse."
He looked at the little person in his arms and reached out to take her hand.
"I, and he, we are all waiting for you to nod," Aidan looked at her with an almost affectionate gaze.
Her heart trembled slightly, and from the infinite affection in his deep black pupils, she seemed to see two identical faces.
"I..."
The words ’I am willing’ almost slipped out.
Just then, David, not far away, lightly coughed twice.
Hearing the signal released by David, Lily changed her words opportunistically, "I... If my brother agrees, I agree too."
Although she loved Aidan, her brother was looking out for her, she couldn’t, due to her tender heart, just turn around and betray her brother.
Aidan’s expression dimmed slightly; he was so close to wooing his wife back, but David had spoiled it.
It seemed that the ’trump card’ Andrew had talked about needed to be played sooner rather than later.
"Alright." Aidan nodded faintly, not clinging, which was completely beyond Lily’s expectation.
Then, Aidan, holding Lily’s hand, approached David.
"Mr. Redington."
No longer in a cutesy mood, Aidan refrained from using nicknames like ’brother-in-law’ and ’David bro.’
"I know you have many reservations about me and that you won’t easily let Lily return to my side. But..."
Aidan looked at David, his gaze firm, "I and the three children, and the baby in Lily’s belly, we all need her."
David, having anticipated that Aidan would use the children in his argument, didn’t even blink as he said, "Our Reddington family is capable of taking good care of Lily’s children. Mr. Lucas only needs to worry about himself, nothing else."
"Of course, I believe that," Aidan said calmly, "but the position of a father is irreplaceable."
David’s expression flickered, pausing for half a second before responding: "That statement hinges on whether the man is a qualified father."
His implication was clear: an unqualified father is worse than no father at all.
And clearly, in David’s eyes, Aidan was not a qualified father.
"Mr. Redington, I believe I am a good father." Aidan casually put his hands in his pockets, slightly turned his body towards a direction unseen by the two, and secretly signaled.
Benjamin Lucas IX had been waiting there, ready to receive a sign from Mr. Lucas.
"What matters most is, I believe in my love for Lily and my love for these four children is more sincere than anyone else’s."
Merely verbal compliments held no significance for David.
He knew Aidan understood this as well.
However, Aidan’s behavior was strange that moment; he knew he couldn’t simply be swayed by a few nice words.
Yet, he insisted on nagging him relentlessly.
David showed a trace of impatience, ready to leave with Lily.
The always expressive Aidan, however, suddenly stopped.
"Alright, my witness is here. Mr. Redington, if you don’t believe it, you can ask him, let him tell you whether I am a good father or not."
David followed the direction of Aidan’s pointing finger.
At the restaurant door, a boy, almost a miniature version of Aidan, stood quietly.
