Chapter 620: Chapter 599: No Next Time Allowed

*Knock knock knock*"

An underling came in and reported in a low voice, "Young Master, the matter will soon be settled!"

"Tell them to hurry up!" Daniel Peacock snapped coldly. The subordinate immediately responded and left, "Yes!"

Abigail Johnson naturally knew what was going on— it seemed the money would soon be laundered successfully.

"Abigail Johnson, you’d better not make any mistakes, or else..." Daniel Peacock narrowed his eyes, and his voice turned icy, "you should know what’s in store for you."

Abigail Johnson felt a chill staring at him and pursed her red lips. "Daniel Peacock, don’t worry about it."

Little Rivers’ home was in an old-fashioned residential building. Cherish Turner didn’t know when it was built, and the surrounding environment wasn’t very good. Roger Griffith sent two men to accompany her to the building, but Cherish insisted on going inside alone. Following the information provided by the company, she climbed to the fourth floor.

The corridor on the fourth floor was narrow, and a woman was cooking in the hallway.

There were no apartment numbers on the doors, so Cherish couldn’t find which one Little Rivers lived in. She walked to the woman and asked softly, "Auntie, does Little Rivers live here?"

The woman looked suspicious and asked, "Who are you?"

"Oh, I’m her friend, and I have something to talk to her about."

"Tingting is at work. She’s not at home."

"And you are?"

"I’m Tingting’s mom." Mother Rivers said cheerfully and honestly.

"Hello Auntie," Cherish said obediently.

Mother Rivers promptly invited her guest inside to sit. She offered tea and sugar. The apartment wasn’t large and was about the same size as Cherish’s Spring Garden apartment. Although there was a lot of furniture, it was clean and tidy, and filled with warmth. Family photos, childhood photos of Little Rivers, and pictures of her and her brother adorned the living room walls.

Mother Rivers laughed and said, "Miss Turner, so you used to work at Griffith too? Were you called Cherish? Tingting once mentioned you to me. She said that she entered the company with another girl, and they were both very nervous during the interview. You helped her when she almost knocked over a bottle of mineral water, right?"

Cherish thought of the past and smiled and nodded.

If nobody brought it up, that initial memory might have been buried away and forgotten.

"Tingting has always been proud since she was a child. She insisted on being first place in every exam, and would be upset if she didn’t make it. She would then study relentlessly to make sure she came in first. From elementary school to college, she has always been outstanding. Our neighbors praised her intelligence, as did her teachers and classmates. Now she’s working at Griffith as the president’s secretary, and I’m happy for her too. She also told us that she would move to a new house after the holidays. Her brother wants to study in Canada, and she said there’s no problem—the company’s boss values her and will serve as her guarantor. Not only will he help with studying abroad, but also with migration. Our whole family relies on her now. Cherish, you’re her good friend. Try to tell her to get some rest when you have time—she’s just too busy."

Cherish listened quietly and replied, "Auntie, I will."

*Creak creak*—the iron door was pulled open, making a noise.

Mother Rivers hurried to see what was happening, only to find Little Rivers herself opening the door. "Tingting, why are you back? It’s only a little past two. Aren’t you at work?"

"Mom, my stomach hurts a bit, so I asked for leave," Little Rivers casually made up an excuse.

"Where do you feel uncomfortable?" Mother Rivers asked worriedly, then said, "Tingting, your friend came to see you."

"Friend?" Little Rivers was surprised, and Mother Rivers replied, "That Miss Turner."

When Little Rivers heard this name, her heart jumped. She rushed into the living room and saw Cherish sitting on the sofa. Not knowing what to say, she was afraid that Cherish would expose her secrets. With an awkward smile, she said, "Cherish, why are you here? Let’s go outside and talk!"

"Tingting, if you’re not feeling well, don’t go outside! Your friend has come a long way to visit you. If there’s nothing important, why not stay and have dinner?" Mother Rivers warmly invited them, but Cherish stood up, "Auntie, I have something to do. Maybe next time."

Mother Rivers insisted on seeing them to the stairway, telling Cherish to visit often. Cherish nodded, while Little Rivers appeared somewhat anxious. The two of them walked to a corner of the second-floor stairs, and Little Rivers stopped, laughing coldly, "Cherish Turner, what are you trying to do by coming here today? I’m telling you, you’d better not talk nonsense!"
