Chapter 574: Chapter 573: Giving Birth Alone
Several close colleagues consoled her, but people come and go, gatherings always end, and this was inevitable.
Sister Lee, a tall woman, walked up to Cherish Turner and held the box with one hand. Kindly, she said, "I’m heading out anyway, let’s go together."
Sister Lee escorted Cherish out of the building, and then advised, "Don’t take the bus. It’s inconvenient with the box."
As they walked towards the taxi stand together, Sister Lee glanced at Cherish, "Cherish, did you go to the hospital today?"
Cherish pressed her red lips together, remaining silent.
Seeing her like this, Sister Lee tried to persuade her earnestly, "Does your boyfriend know? Does he want the child? You don’t have a job now, what will you do in the future? Do your parents agree? If you want to keep the baby, you should get married first, that way there is some security! Otherwise, once the child is born, you’ll be an unwed mother, and your reputation won’t be great! Plus, it’s really tiring! I’ve been through it, so don’t mind me being nosy!"
Sister Lee’s words were sound advice, but Cherish remained lost.
Returning home, Elijah Butler saw her holding the box and guessed that she might have resigned. "It’s better not to work there anymore. I’ve thought about it; managing the online store is better than staying in that company!"
She had already confronted William Griffith today. If he remained indifferent, then there was no point in looking back. She tidied up her things and made a cup of honey water for Cherish. "Drink something warm, warm up your body, and remember to wear more clothes; you always wear so little."
Cherish held the cup of water, feeling considerably warmer.
Elijah sat down beside her and held her hand. "Cherish, tell me, if he doesn’t come back, do you still want this child?"
Cherish held Elijah’s hand tightly, unable to answer.
"Have you told your aunt?"
"No." Cherish thought of her mother, unsure how to face her. "Elijah, don’t tell anyone I’m pregnant, don’t tell a single person."
"I know, don’t worry." Elijah couldn’t help but sigh. "But you should think it through. If you don’t want the child, do it sooner. If you do, there’s more to prepare. In any case, I’ll always be with you." Feeling overwhelmed by the melancholic atmosphere, he quickly changed the topic. "Alright, I’ll go buy some groceries, the fridge is empty. You just rest at home."
"Elijah, is it particularly difficult for a person to give birth alone?"
Elijah, having been through it, knew that giving birth was indeed difficult, but his heart was full of sweetness at the time. Now, his child was in the hands of the scoundrel, and he was powerless to do anything.
Without answering, Elijah left, and Cherish tidied up the room.
Feeling stifled being alone, she went downstairs, aiming to take a walk in the nearby park.
In reality, there was no park nearby, only a few fitness areas planned by the neighboring communities. Lush and verdant, Cherish considered these miniscule places as parks anyway. She strolled through the trees, reminiscing about her childhood. After school, she would play in such parks with her friends, and back then, her father would wait for her on the sidelines while her mother prepared delicious meals at home.
Nowadays, only a handful of children played in the small park.
Their innocent smiles and happy laughter warmed Cherish’s heart.
