However, this was all Chloe’s side of the story. Even if Cherish was ignorant, she wouldn’t just listen to one side of the story. There were still many things she needed to figure out on her own.

“I don’t know much about the relationship between the Griffith and Turner families, so I can’t just listen to your side of the story. Since I’m here, I’ll investigate and make my own decision on what to do.”

“Fine, that’s for the best. That way, you won’t feel like I misled you.”

After Cherish left the seaside for Kyoto City, William Griffith’s life seemed to lose its center or, perhaps, he returned to the state of a walking corpse.

He went back and forth between Deep Wave Mansion and the company, working late into the night. Many times, when he returned home, Lewis had already fallen asleep. However, the boy still refused to return to the old Griffith house, insisting on staying with his dad.

William always felt relieved when he saw Lewis’ face after dragging his exhausted body back to Deep Wave Mansion.

His longing for Cherish grew deeper every day. Sometimes, when he thought of her in the middle of the night, the desire surging within him frightened him. At times when he couldn’t control it, he had no choice but to take cold showers relentlessly, as if punishing himself.

Since they hadn’t seen Cherish for a while, the Griffith elders assumed that William might have broken up with her. After all, he was an obedient child in their eyes. So they tried to set William up with a girlfriend.

However, William didn’t even bother to meet any of the girls they suggested, which infuriated the old man.

The old man even threatened to redetermine the Griffith inheritance, leaving it to be a fair competition between Yannis Griffith and William. Whoever got married first would inherit the family’s assets.

William didn’t care about this as he could still make his mark even without the Griffith platform. His business ventures outside of the Griffith empire were far more numerous than anyone could imagine.

Grace Harper was still recovering in the hospital. Both William and Yannis occasionally visited her. However, their eyes always seemed to be filled with barely visible hostility when they met.

One day, after leaving Grace’s hospital room, Yannis pulled William to the emergency exit of the corridor, unable to hold back his anger any longer.

“Where’s Cherish? Why hasn’t she come with you these past few days? Did you two have a fight?”

Every time Yannis showed excessive concern for Cherish, William felt uncomfortable. His brother’s concern had gone beyond what a friend should care about.

“Yannis, this is my last warning. You can’t treat Cherish with this level of concern. She’s my woman, and in the future, I want you to stay away from her. Otherwise, don’t expect me to care about our brotherly bond!”

Yannis stared at William angrily. It was the first time they’d had a direct confrontation over a woman.

“If she’s your woman, then protect her properly. If you can’t protect her, then you don’t deserve to keep her by your side. If one day I find out you’ve hurt Cherish, it doesn’t matter if you’re my brother or whatever. I’ll take her away from you!”
