Chapter 249 - 249 249 Do you not plan to marry William
Chapter 249: Chapter 249: Do you not plan to marry William Griffith in two or three years? Chapter 249: Chapter 249: Do you not plan to marry William Griffith in two or three years? Mother Turner heard the doorbell ring and sighed. She didn’t have to guess who it was at this hour.
She nudged her precious daughter and complained, “Hurry up and answer the door!”
Cherish Turner cheerfully replied, “Okay!”
Never before had William Griffith been so nervous and excited at the same time. His son had tipped him off that he might be discussing marriage with Cherish’s parents today. That little fool probably couldn’t keep a secret in front of his parents!
At the dinner table, there were five people, and only Lewis was eating happily.
Mother Turner wanted to speak several times, but in the end, she nudged her husband instead, “You say it.”
“Hmm, it’s better if you say it. Don’t you usually make the decisions in our family?” Old Turner lowered his head, picked up some food, and had no intention of taking the lead. Saying the wrong thing now could lead to being nagged by his wife.
“Mom, actually…” Cherish Turner wanted to speak, but her mother wouldn’t let her.
“You shut up!”
Cherish Turner pouted but had no choice but to keep quiet. She looked at William Griffith with a warning in her eyes, reminding him to speak carefully later on.
William Griffith could only lower his head and smile slightly.
He had been waiting for this day for a long time. He wasn’t afraid of anything, including revealing Cherish Turner’s background to his family. Regardless of any controversy, slander, or even his family cutting ties with him, as long as Cherish was by his side, everything would be alright.
If it weren’t for Cherish asking him to wait, he probably would have helped her register for marriage abroad a long time ago!
Now that the Turners were raising the subject, he couldn’t have been happier.
“Aunt, whatever you have to say, just say it. I will be honest and open about everything. I am serious about Cherish, and as long as she agrees, I am willing to marry her immediately.”
These words were not particularly fancy or romantic, but they conveyed a sense of reassurance.
Because of William Griffith’s words, Mother Turner’s original assertive attitude softened involuntarily.
“Young Griffith, since you’ve brought it up, I believe you know that Cherish’s father and I want to talk to you about something. Our Cherish is not in a hurry to get married, but ever since we’ve known you guys, you’ve been dating. It’s been quite some time – not too long, but not too short either. Especially since all the uncles and aunties in our community know about this, so we think that if you both are serious with each other, why not bring the marriage discussion to the table? What do you think?”
William Griffith nodded, “I can’t wait. I actually proposed to Cherish before, though not in a very formal way, but I was sincere.”
“Mom, he did propose, but I rejected him. I think I’m still young, and now that I’ve just won an award, I need to focus on my work…”
“Work, work, work! Can a girl marry her work? Cherish, let me ask you, are you not planning to marry William Griffith in two or three years?”
Where should she begin with this question? Cherish looked at her mother and didn’t know what to say.
William Griffith’s gaze was also fixed on Cherish, waiting for her answer. It was as if he pitifully asked, “Are you going to change your mind in two or three years?”
Even Lewis, who was eating quietly, stopped when he heard Granny Turner’s question.
With the whole family watching her, Cherish seemed unable to avoid the question.
