After he left, she changed into the clothes Tanigawa Kenichi had prepared for her, put on her coat, and went to the hallway to wait for him.

She could tell who the man was just by looking at his back, let alone the fact that he was now facing her, his gaze fixed on a girl in a wheelchair not far away from Cherish.

Cherish then saw him place the thick shawl in his hand on the girl’s shoulders, his movements gentle, so gentle that Cherish’s heart ached.

In her desperation to prove herself wrong, she pulled her phone out of her coat pocket, trembling as she swiped the screen and dialed William’s number.

The call connected, and Cherish took a deep breath, holding the phone to her ear. She then turned to face the window, carefully watching William’s actions outside.

Her eyes were full of anticipation and disappointment.

In the morning light, William noticed the incoming call and seemed to hesitate for a moment. Maybe it was because of the distrust in Cherish’s eyes at the moment; she couldn’t see the flicker of excitement on his face.

He probably signaled to the girl beside him, then walked a little farther away before answering the phone.

“Cherish!”

Her dislike for this nickname intensified once again, her fingertips turning white as she gripped her phone. Biting her lip, she tried to muster up her usual bright tone:

“Oh, it’s nothing, just wanted to call and ask what you’re up to.” She forced a smile, unable to hide the sadness in her eyes.

“I…” William almost told Cherish what he was doing at that moment, but then he thought of Julian Brown’s words and swallowed his initial response, saying instead, “Well, I just got to the office. I’ve been pretty busy lately, but once I get through this, I’ll come to Japan to see you as soon as possible.”

He was indeed very busy – busy rekindling his past relationships, busy deceiving her in every possible way.
