Divorce With Benefits: A Second Chance At Love
Chapter 71: Why He Fell For Her(2)

Chapter 71: Why He Fell For Her(2)

The first night they spent together, she’d cleaned his house while he cooked breakfast for her, all without a word of complaint. By then, he was already lost in her.

She had a way of making him feel things he had long buried, and that night, spent in her arms, was divine—he could still feel the echo of it.

She had mesmerized him from the moment he saw her, and as they began to talk and date, he found himself opening up to her in ways he never had before. It was surprising even to him. He never knew he had so much to say.

Their first kiss, though, that came much later—on his birthday, to be exact. He had expected it, truly, after their first, third, and every subsequent date. But Jerica, she knew how to keep him on edge, how to tease him with her light touch and fleeting glances.

He would be burning with desire, yearning for her, but she was like the breeze—here one moment, gone the next, leaving him wanting more.

He never expected that kiss, especially not that night. After so many rejections, not harsh ones, but those that felt like a secret promise, like an invitation for him to devote himself to her eternally.

Her rejections weren’t rejections at all—they were part of a game, a dance she led him through, and he followed willingly. It wasn’t frustration that filled him during those moments of waiting, but a fluttering anticipation that made his heart race.

It was like she had him wrapped around her finger, and it didn’t bother him one bit. She had bewitched him, and he was helpless to resist.

That birthday, she gave him more than a simple gift. She took him to dinner and gave him presents, but the gift he cherished most was that kiss. It was like the best birthday gift he could ever imagine.

He felt like he was floating, suspended in the sky, caught in the magic of the moment. That kiss, that simple, sweet kiss, was all he needed to make his birthday unforgettable.

From that point, it was like they were teenagers again, sneaking kisses and touches whenever they could, letting their passion flare up in private moments. Every time he tried to push further, she stopped him with such grace and persuasion, her teasing smile promising that more fun would come if only he respected her boundaries.

And he did.

He couldn’t help but respect her wishes, and in doing so, he came to appreciate the waiting, the slow burn that kept him longing for more.

When she gave him her heart, he knew it was worth the wait. No other woman could make him feel the way Jerica did. He had been with other women, had his fun, but none of them had ever come close to this.

The connection he felt with Jerica was different. Holding her in his arms that morning after, he knew without a doubt that this—she—was it.

She was the one.

The final proof came when she started cleaning his house, unprompted. He hadn’t been keeping up with the chores as he should have, neglecting it for days, even a week. But Jerica, without hesitation, stepped in. She vacuumed the floors, picked up the clutter, made his place shine, and he watched her in awe.

There she was, holding the vacuum like an angel descending from the heavens. His angel. She had come to take that burden from him, to free him from the endless cycle of cleaning, a chore that had weighed him down for so long.

She bought him an iron, something he hadn’t even known he needed until she arrived. He had no idea how to use it, but it didn’t matter. Jerica had thought of everything.

She didn’t just clean. She made his world a little brighter, a little more organized, and in doing so, she became indispensable to him. His house, his life, was no longer just about survival. It was about living, truly living, with someone who cared enough to take the weight off his shoulders, to share the load with him.

But Jerica, smart as she was, didn’t just offer him her love; she offered him a challenge, too. She gave him a glimpse of what could be—what they could be—but made it clear that to have her, he had to wait for more.

She wasn’t interested in a man who couldn’t commit, and as much as he wanted her, she set the terms. The only way she would give herself to him completely was after their wedding.

She knew exactly how to keep him on his toes. A subtle hint, a little tease, and she knew how much it would make him ache for more. She was playing the long game, and Jared? He was hooked.

Marriage had never been on his agenda—not until he finished what he started with his quest for revenge. But Jerica had a way of getting under his skin, of making him feel things he couldn’t ignore.

And so, he married her. Happily. He didn’t know how to explain it, but it felt like the most natural thing in the world.

It wasn’t just the wedding itself. It was her. She became his, and that realization filled him with a deep sense of relief, of peace.

Finally, it was just the two of them, building a life together. And he knew, deep down, that he couldn’t have found anyone better, more perfect, more suited to him than Jerica.

She had never given him a reason to doubt her, not once. She had been everything he needed, everything he’d ever hoped for, and more.

But as he stared down at the small box in his hands, his chest tightened. There was a weight to it that didn’t match the delicate wrapping. The guilt gnawed at him.

He had never apologized for that day, for the things he had left unsaid. He had meant to buy her a gift, something meaningful, something that showed he understood her, but in the end, he hadn’t done that. He had only gotten her this—a small token. And even though he knew what she truly needed, this was all he could bring himself to give her now.

Finally, he gathered the courage to offer it to her. Even if it was late, even if it wasn’t enough, it was the best he could do.

His thoughts were interrupted when Jerica finished tidying up the cupboard and turned to face him.
