Chapter 53: Confrontation

Minerva, the blood Witch, stood from her throne and slowly descended onto the ground.

"And you’re sure that the crown prince is here? I don’t want to waste my time." Her soft voice asked as he batted her eyes at the man.

"I advise you to keep your hands to yourself, you witch." He spat out in disgust.

"And yes I’m sure, he is still wearing the necklace I gave him. It’ll help us find him. Let’s go."

They spent a few hours regaining their strength. Or more specifically, Logan spent a few hours trying to regain his strength.

’I have recovered about 70 percent of the world energy within my world cores. That should suffice.’ Logan sighed as he stood up with shaky legs.

’That was even more dangerous than the shadow phase power. I should avoid completely emptying my cores. It seems to affect the structural integrity of my legs.’ Logan noticed the thin hairline cracks that ran across his legs.

"Let’s go. The faster we get there, the sooner we can go back to the academy." He gripped his tachi and resumed his march to the center of the island.

The region that Logan has cleared saved them a lot of time they would have spent fighting beasts and cutting down plants.

’William is doing well. It might not look like it, but being able to cast a bi-elemental spell after a few weeks of lessons is a very impressive feat.’ Logan glanced at the prince.

Since his encounter with the two, Prince William had changed his deposition.

He had even asked them to stop referring to him as ’Prince William’ yet they had refused. Logan did so to remind himself and the prince that they weren’t friends - just allies for the time being and Orion did so as a means to make fun of him.

Even his wardrobe had changed. He was now wearing simple clothing typical of normal citizens. The only thing he kept from his previous set was a small necklace that had a lapis lazuli embedded in it.

As though connected to a hive mind, Orion spoke.

"What’s up with that jewelry around your neck?"

"Oh, this? It’s a good luck charm given to me by my parents through one of the guards who was meant to protect me." He rubbed the lapis lazuli on it.

"Hmm." Logan squinted his eyes.

"Orion, please take the pendant off him." Logan requested.

"Sure. May I ask why?" Orion walked to the prince.

"I just need both of you to trust me, for now at least," Logan replied calmly.

"Okay." Prince William took the pendant off and handed it to Orion.

He already trusted Logan with his life, this small task was nothing.

"Good. Now, Orion, run your mana through it and tell me if anything is strange." Logan passed on his instructions to Orion who complied with no resistance.

Gripping the chain attached, Orion ran his mana through it and, much to his surprise, found something very odd.

"Yeah, there is something odd about this pendant." Orion furrowed his eyebrows.

"It isn’t resistance; rather, it is the lack thereof. All metal poses at least a little resistance to mana, even mine, but this jewelry just lets it pass." He concluded as he approached Logan.

"Here, hold my blade and run your mana through it," Logan repeated his request.

Orion, still a bit confused about the matter, complied once again.

Taking the sword from Logan, he ran his mana through it and just like the pendant, there was no resistance.

"Same. No resistance." Orion remarked before returning the tachi to Logan.

"It’s just like I thought." Logan sighed before taking the pendant from Orion.

He dropped it and then stomped on it until it broke.

"What??!! WHY?!!!" Prince William screamed as he went to pick up the broken pieces.

"Why? BECAUSE YOU ARE THE REASON FOR THE ATTEMPT ON YOUR LIFE!!" Logan yelled at the prince.

"It’s clear that only enchanted items don’t have any form of resistance to the flow of mana. I first checked with your pendant and then my sword." He reined himself in and spoke calmly.

"You-you don’t know what you are talking about. You have no idea what you are saying." The prince pointed an accusing finger at Logan.

"You must have been sad that no one has ever given you shit! Now you’ve taken the only thing that gave me hope that my family might care." Prince William broke down in tears.

Logan watched as the royal cursed unendingly at him.

"Typical. Just as I thought." He tutted before walking away from the trail and taking a small detour.

Amidst sobs, Prince William noticed the slight blue glow that the pendant took on.

It slowly built up in color until it became almost blinding.

A bright blue flare left the jewel in the pendant and vanished in the air.

The prince stopped crying and looked at where the flare had flashed.

A small sphere of water appeared and grew until it became very large.

It burst open and revealed a man in bright golden armour. The armour had the image of a three-headed dragon wrapped around a tower embedded in it. The Royal Armour.

Orion started casting spells as a faint sense of paranoia hit him.

"Julius. You came. Where have you been?" William asked the man who was still afloat in the air.

"I’m sorry, young prince, but the instructions came from the king himself." Julius, his long-trusted Royal Guard, sighed before raising his hand.

Water swirled around his hand and formed a blade.

He pointed his hand at the prince, and the blade descended.

Logan muttered curses in his head as he walked to the center of the island.

As he approached, he had to stop as he felt someone behind him.

Turning around, he saw a woman with red streaks and red eyes.

Minerva stared Logan down and smiled.

Her hand traced a cut on her palm.

"You are the one who interrupted my attack. Let’s see your skills."

Her blood began to surge.
