Chapter 987: Chapter 988: Practical Assessment Ends
"It should be the last batch by now."
Taking advantage of the break, Feng Yuan turned into a Little Husky and lay on Xiao Ji to rest for a while, feeling the weight of the Little Husky on his back. Xiao Ji shook his tail feathers and suddenly spread his wings to soar into the sky, feeling the gusts of wind head-on. Little Husky gently patted Xiao Ji with his paw and said,
"Don’t run too far, I reckon the last batch of test-takers will arrive soon. Once we’re done with them, we just wait for tomorrow’s inspection~"
Xiao Ji let out a cheerful eagle cry, but because Feng Yuan had warned him beforehand, Xiao Ji tried not to be too loud, and the sound didn’t carry very far.
"Cheaters, so annoying."
Looking at the purple smoke before him, Feng Yuan said with some disdain. If it weren’t for using Xiao Ji’s power, he believed he definitely wouldn’t have been able to discover it himself. Guo Huai looked at Feng Yuan’s examiner uniform in silence and said,
"You’re not much better yourself. Are you here to... take out your frustrations on the test-takers?"
"Who said that! It’s a special test, I’m sure you know that!"
With a sneer, Feng Yuan responded dismissively. Guo Huai must have relied on his system to locate him; after all, apart from being unable to provide physical objects and having some issues with its database, his broken system still had a strong investigative function. Usually, any form of invisible ambush would be detected and alerted by his system. In a way, his system was like cheating when it came to dealing with ambushes.
Seeing Feng Yuan vanish from sight, leaving just a red warning sign receding from himself, Guo Huai felt vaguely uneasy – was his system really helping him cheat?
"Ding~ Don’t sweat the small stuff. The test doesn’t prohibit the use of personal special equipment, and isn’t the system your special equipment?"
Hearing his system comfort him, Guo Huai chuckled and didn’t dwell on it anymore. Coming back to his senses, he looked towards where Feng Yuan was. Thanks to his system, he could completely see where invisible Feng Yuan was located, but he knew that Feng Yuan was probably just abiding by the rules of the test. In reality, with his own strength, he wouldn’t have stood a chance at detecting Feng Yuan at all.
Watching Feng Yuan efficiently dispatch the remaining test-takers, Guo Huai sighed. He was well aware of Feng Yuan’s strength; keeping company with Divine Beasts, making his own system wary, and possibly having the ability to traverse worlds on his own, handling these test-takers was an effortless task for him. Since Feng Yuan was only voicing complaints, that probably meant he didn’t mind Guo Huai using the power of his system.
"So, it really is the last batch, huh?"
"What are you planning to do?"
Agunas, who had just floated over to notify Feng Yuan that they were the last batch of test-takers, looked at him with caution, fearful that he might cause some kind of trouble at the last moment. Feng Yuan glanced at the setting sun and said,
"How about a grand finale?"
"Don’t mess around!"
Agunas was instantly anxious; when this guy spoke like that, it could mean he was about to stir up some trouble. Feng Yuan smiled faintly, clutching the dagger in his hand as streaks of black lightning flickered across it. He looked around at the few remaining test-takers and whispered,
"Since you’re using the system to cheat, raising the difficulty a bit shouldn’t be a problem, right?"
Watching Feng Yuan swiftly deal with the remaining test-takers, Agunas flicked its tail. Of course, it wouldn’t intervene in such matters. However, what was this about a system cheating? Agunas felt a bit perplexed until it saw Guo Huai standing nearby, looking wary, and then it understood what was going on.
Agunas was aware of the other party’s system and knew that the system could indeed fully detect Feng Yuan, who used Xiao Ji’s power to become invisible—just how did Feng Yuan plan to handle it? He surely couldn’t be planning to directly expose the system, could he?
While Agunas was pondering, Feng Yuan had already attacked all the examinees around, ignoring those who had passed the second round of examination. Looking at Guo Huai with a mischievous smile, the latter felt a chill down his spine and couldn’t help but lay down another layer of Dreamland Mist. Although he wasn’t sure if it would be of use, he was well aware that if he naively tried to use a barrier to forcibly block Feng Yuan’s attack, he would likely need extremely high combat capability, which was not his forte.
"Are you ready~"
Feng Yuan clenched the dagger in his hand, appearing ready to strike. Although Guo Huai didn’t hear Feng Yuan’s whisper, he knew that the examinees still standing had already withstood the second wave of attacks. Now, he was the only one left who hadn’t dealt with Feng Yuan’s onslaught. Watching the motionless red dot, Guo Huai became more nervous, aware that his opponent was clearly charging up some Ultimate Move, every one of which was immensely powerful.
"Ding~ Be careful! He’s about to attack!"
Suddenly, the system voice warned, and the red dot representing Feng Yuan quickly closed in on Guo Huai. Instinctively, Guo Huai had Pu Pu open the gates of the Dream Domain, and a pink mist instantly spread out. Feng Yuan looked at the pink mist somewhat speechlessly, charging straight through as if the mist had no effect on him, not even blocking his line of sight.
"Really..."
Arriving behind Guo Huai, just as Feng Yuan was about to make his move, he sensed something and swung his dagger. A multitude of Feng Yuan Illusions, each holding a dagger, dashed in every direction, slashing at Guo Huais that appeared in various corners. Although he knew that releasing his spiritual power would reveal Guo Huai’s actual location, Feng Yuan preferred not to do so.
Hesitating for a moment, the dagger in Feng Yuan’s hand suddenly multiplied, and black daggers exploded in all directions. After a while, Feng Yuan grasped his dagger again, looked towards the gate of the Dream Domain, and sighed,
"So that’s it. This is indeed a special evasion tactic that only your Pu Pu can accomplish. Alright, you pass this round."
Saying this, Feng Yuan concealed his presence once more, and Guo Huai breathed a sigh of relief as he walked out from the gate of the Dream Domain. Having Pu Pu take him into the Dream Domain was just a risky action. If the opponent didn’t acknowledge this method, he would’ve been able to track him down in the Dream Domain instantly.
Is there one last time? Guo Huai thought to himself as he looked toward the distant red dot. He was clear that this trick could only be used once; if he dared to do this again next time, that guy would definitely not mind charging into the Dream Domain and dragging him out.
"Being able to freely enter and exit the Dream Domain? This one is a good seedling, but... this experience..."
The woman, holding Guo Huai’s information, felt a headache coming on, as the Commander-in-Chief spoke with a slightly furrowed brow,
"I don’t think recruiting him is a good choice. It’s better to collaborate as equals with someone who has obviously had a unique experience like his."
"When it’s necessary, we can show goodwill towards him, but unless the situation is dire, I wouldn’t recommend recruiting him," the man said with a disdainful expression. "After all, his experiences before transferring schools were rather unsavory. Moreover, the idea of making a student with a Beast Tamer withdraw of their own accord? It’s probably a good idea to have someone thoroughly investigate what exactly is going on."
No matter what their reasons were, the idea of driving away a student with a Beast Tamer seemed utterly unacceptable to them. It was common knowledge that only enrolled students could sign up for academy evaluations. If it weren’t for the principal of the Second School taking him in, the guy would likely bear a grudge against Great Xia, which wouldn’t be surprising at all.
"We really need to investigate this properly and see what those people are up to!"
The woman said somewhat angrily. Reading through Guo Huai’s history, she couldn’t help but be influenced, especially since what had been done to him was indeed a violation of the rules.
"There’s only you left~"
Feng Yuan said with a pleased expression as he looked at Guo Huai, who, upon noticing Feng Yuan’s visibility restored, and him holding two daggers while intently staring at him, became extremely wary. Was this guy planning to unleash his full power without restraint?
"If you use the Dreamland Mist again, you’ll be at a disadvantage~"
With an appearance of kindly reminding him, Feng Yuan made a fierce gesture with his dagger. A colossal Illusion appeared behind him, cloaked in a black robe with golden trim, glowing with a bright yellow light, holding a large Reaper’s Scythe gleaming with a dark radiance. Slowly raising the scythe, the enormous black-robed Illusion forcefully brought the huge scythe down onto the earth.
