Chapter 956: Chapter 957 Combat Assessment

"It’s best not to use your own strength."

Agunas glanced at the excited Xiao Ji and nodded to Feng Yuan with a somewhat amused expression, "It’s okay, actually, it’s not really a big deal. Xiao Ji’s strength isn’t weak at all; dealing with these assessments should be no problem."

He just found it troublesome. Enemies that he could defeat with a single move, he did not want to go through the hassle of borrowing power from Xiao Ji and fighting for so long. But in fact, Feng Yuan was fully capable of using Xiao Ji’s power to handle most battles.

Walking onto the battlefield with Xiao Ji, Feng Yuan, seeing the examiner act as if he was facing a great foe, said with a bit of amusement, "What are you panicking for? I won’t be using my own power."

The opponent watched Feng Yuan warily. It couldn’t be helped—if before they thought that Feng Yuan just relied on Divine Beasts to be formidable, during the simulated combat assessment, his defense ring’s ability proved that he was no pushover himself. However, this was normal. Although it was strange that he was so young and yet so strong, if he had no strength at all, how could he have possibly earned the favor of so many Divine Beasts?

"Are you just going through the motions here?"

Seeing that Feng Yuan hadn’t summoned the much-feared Rune Circle, the examiner frowned slightly. Was this a sign of disrespect? Although he did not believe he could last more than a few moves within those runes, this felt a bit too...

"No, isn’t this assessment about compatibility? Of course, it should be the usual case of borrowing power from my own Beast Tamer, right?"

Feng Yuan smiled and waved his hand, and Xiao Ji let out a piercing eagle cry, with nine small energy shields revolving around Feng Yuan.

"A Spirit Beast weapon?"

Seeing Feng Yuan summon a weapon, the examiner’s brows relaxed. It seemed Feng Yuan wasn’t looking down on him; he just wanted to follow the normal assessment procedures. With this in mind, he picked up his weapon and said, "I will suppress my strength to Good Level. That weapon of yours... is it more defensive?"

Since he wasn’t sure of Feng Yuan’s exact strength, he could only follow convention and suppress his strength to Good Level. If Feng Yuan indeed exceeded it, he would adjust accordingly. As for Feng Yuan’s small shields, since most Beastmasters focused on protecting themselves and left almost all attacks to the Beasts, he had no particular suspicions about them.

Hearing the examiner’s words, Feng Yuan smiled, grasped one of the small shields, and transformed it into a long halberd, "This isn’t a weapon meant for defense, or rather, it prefers to be on the offense."

The opponent was taken aback, not expecting the item could change form. Spirit Beast weapons usually had only one fixed shape. Though not unheard of, shape-shifting weapons were not common, and he hadn’t expected to encounter one here.

"Indeed, one cannot underestimate... Be careful!"

After issuing a verbal warning, the examiner charged at Feng Yuan with his weapon raised. Watching the long halberd slashing towards him, Feng Yuan took the opportunity to parry with his own halberd and swiftly retreated. Xiao Ji quickly dashed over, and a pale blue Flame Storm directly repelled Tratus, who was preparing to sneak attack from the side.

The ancient statue-like Tratus was stunned and seemed a bit confused about how Xiao Ji had managed to repel it. After all, judging by appearance, Tratus wasn’t much different in size from Wood and clearly wasn’t something a Good Level Ultimate Move could repel, let alone considering its stone statue-like form that was much heavier than Wood.

Feng Yuan didn’t linger in the fight. He immediately retreated to Xiao Ji’s side, relaxed his grip and the halberd reverted back into a small shield. As he saw the opponent and his Beast charging over, he waved his hand, and the nine small shields combined into a huge shield in front of him.

"Just go full force with your attack."

Feng Yuan said to Xiao Ji with a brilliant smile. Spreading its wings, Xiao Ji started to stir up a Death Storm. Tratus braced itself with its stone arms, a gray-black Domain began to expand around them. However, Feng Yuan seemed unbothered. He curled his finger, and the runes on the shield glowed slightly. A sphere-shaped barrier engulfed Feng Yuan and Xiao Ji, burning with pale blue flames. The gray-black Domain brushed against the barrier, causing the flames to dim slightly.

"Anti-Magic Field? That move is useless against it."

Agunas said with some helplessness. Xiao Ji, after all, is a Divine Beast. Tiredness it may have, but to exhaust its energy? Even if it’s not at Divine Beast-level strength right now, it would still be impossible. Veronia, staring intently at Feng Yuan fighting alongside Xiao Ji, muttered to herself,

"Is this what it means to be a knight and a king?"

Agunas swept a look at Veronia without a word, not knowing what strange thing the other party had thought of now.

"Not affected by anti-magic? Interesting."

The examiner discovered that Xiao Ji’s abilities seemed a bit strange, to actually ignore the influence of the Anti-Magic Field. As to whether it’s Feng Yuan’s own power? This distinctly Spirit Beast power couldn’t possibly be Feng Yuan’s.

Xiao Ji glanced at Feng Yuan and let out a long cry as it ascended into the sky. Feng Yuan smiled slightly and with a wave of his hand, the large shield once again broke apart into nine smaller shields. Those nine small shields circled around Feng Yuan and then fiercely planted into the ground. Nine pillars of light shot upwards as glowing cracks appeared on the ground, spreading outward from the shields.

Although unsure of Feng Yuan’s intent, the examiner certainly did not want to approach that area. Beside him, Tratus brought his hands together, pointing straight at Feng Yuan, as a golden orb of light gathered and expanded in front of him.

However, Xiao Ji gave it no chance to attack, diving down with a clear eagle cry while shrouded in pale blue flames. The examiner swung his long halberd, and a grey barrier appeared in Xiao Ji’s dive path, seemingly attempting to stop Xiao Ji.

"Hmm hmm~ You must have forgotten about me~"

Feng Yuan hooked his finger, and the nine small shields rose back into the air. He grabbed one of the shields, which transformed into a black longbow. Feng Yuan pulled the bowstring and released, sending a shower of black arrows toward the examiner. Tratus was suddenly torn between a rock and a hard place; if he continued his attack, he knew full well he couldn’t block both the arrow rain and Xiao Ji’s assault. If he abandoned the attack, he would have to endure the backlash of energy, as those ultimate moves that require charging often cause backlash damage when forcibly interrupted.

Moments later, Tratus hesitated no more and forcefully cut off the ultimate move he was preparing. His stone arms gesticulated in the air, and a dark golden rune circle appeared out of nowhere. Colorful energy liquid, looking like ink, flew and spun around with long trails, seemingly drawing something.

"A unique ability, huh? But it’s useless."

Feng Yuan chuckled to himself. He naturally recognized it as Tratus’s special ability. Tratus’s Scenery Drawing Technique was an unusual Space Ultimate Technique that did not belong to the Space Series.

The Scenery Drawing Technique could directly create a special Scenery Drawing Domain in the real world, temporarily replacing the original space. While the Scenery Drawing was active, Tratus could freely modify the environment within the Scenery Drawing Domain. However, once the Scenery Drawing was broken, those changes would vanish as well.

After pondering for a moment, Feng Yuan decided to abandon the plan to let it utilize the Scenery Drawing Domain. Although the move had no effect on him, it would still be quite troublesome for Xiao Ji.

Changing the weapon in his hand, Feng Yuan held the long halberd and gave the examiner a slight smile. The long halberd ignited with a pale blue flame as he swung it fiercely through the air, as if it had sliced something invisible. The colorful liquid erupted from cracks in the air, Feng Yuan dodged the liquid and, looking at Xiao Ji who was entangled with Tratus, said to the examiner,

"How about we end it like this?"

He believed that the battle as it stood was enough to compel the other party to give a proper score. After watching Feng Yuan for a while, the examiner said,

"No, according to the rules, we must continue fighting until a victor emerges."

"Quite inflexible..."

Feng Yuan rubbed his temples with a headache, and though he did not care about the score, if he really did not receive a score, perhaps Xiao Ji would be sad, wouldn’t it? With that in mind, Feng Yuan helplessly picked up the black longbow again, releasing another arrow rain.

"Asking for trouble."

From outside the field, Agunas shook his tail speechlessly, noting that the other party was clearly causing trouble for themselves. Feng Yuan was merely being lax, after all. Xiao Ji wasn’t weak in power, and if it came down to it, the examiner might not be able to defeat Feng Yuan, especially if the fellow helped Xiao Ji. With only Good Level strength, winning against Rare Level wouldn’t be a problem either.
