Chapter 911 - 912 Night Journey
Chapter 911: Chapter 912 Night Journey
"I’m not particularly interested in an Alliance position. I was just reflecting on it, and I didn’t expect they’d be so busy that they’d still have to run missions late at night."
"Of course, otherwise why would they gradually lean towards the Alliance."
Agunas spoke as if it were a matter of course. When the Divine Beast Hall gradually lost its original intent, that group of Divine Beasts also abandoned them. However, Agunas was not naïve enough to think that the Alliance could maintain its state forever.
"Anyway, you won’t lose out either way."
Feng Yuan said with a mischievous smile. Agunas flicked his tail and ignored the tease, as what they did only slightly reduced their workload, after all. The important matters still had to be resolved by the Divine Beasts themselves.
"Looks like waiting for the public transport might be a bit of a challenge. How about it? Fancy walking back?"
Feng Yuan suggested to Agunas and the others. While there were night buses, they were infrequent. Hearing Feng Yuan’s suggestion, Agunas flicked his tail and said,
"I’m easy-going."
Xiao Ji nuzzled Feng Yuan, seemingly finding the idea interesting. Veronia asked with a hint of curiosity,
"But isn’t the high-speed train station in East City District? I remember your school is in the South City District, and if you walk, wouldn’t it take about one or two hours to get there?"
By that time, it was getting late. Spending an hour or two to get back to school would mean they wouldn’t arrive until one or two in the morning.
"I had a nap in the afternoon, so it’s fine~"
Feng Yuan smiled proudly. Xiao Ji nuzzled him, apparently intrigued by his suggestion, while Big Cat meowed, seeming to communicate something. Agunas listened for a moment and translated,
"It says the nights in Maomu City aren’t very peaceful."
After all, Big Cat had once roamed the streets and alleys of Maomu City for a long time. Agunas couldn’t casually dismiss Big Cat’s words as wrong. But shouldn’t there be patrols? How could there be danger? Agunas was puzzled, while Feng Yuan gently poked Big Cat’s soft belly, saying,
"You’re probably talking about the dark corners of the city, right? And those dangers are from Stray Spirit Beasts, not humans, right?"
Big Cat nodded, somewhat puzzled. Feng Yuan laughed and said,
"But, do those Spirit Beasts dare to attack them?"
Feng Yuan glanced at Agunas and Veronia. With two Divine Beasts here, and Spirit Beasts not being the kind of humans that act recklessly, it seemed unlikely they would dare to be so bold.
Big Cat meowed, still not quite understanding. Feng Yuan rubbed Big Cat’s head, finding it somewhat amusing, and said,
"Do you really think those Spirit Beasts would dare to attack Agunas and the others? Plus, we’ll be walking along the main road. If we encounter any danger, it’ll mean there’s a serious underlying issue."
Big Cat tilted its head, seemingly unable to grasp the concept. Feng Yuan rubbed Big Cat’s belly and said,
"Let’s go. In any case, if we really run into danger, we still have them, right?"
"Since you insist so much, I suppose I can reluctantly agree."
Veronia said as if she had no choice, and Agunas glanced at her and flicked his tail, not exposing her act. Xiao Ji ran up to Feng Yuan, calling out cheerfully. After petting Xiao Ji’s head, Feng Yuan led the way along the sidewalk toward the school.
"I didn’t expect it to be so quiet at night."
Surveying the tranquil streets around him, Feng Yuan’s voice naturally grew softer. Pomiti was lying comfortably atop Big Cat’s head, seemingly used to sleeping this way. Agunas flicked his tail and said,
"It’d be strange if it were busy at this hour."
"Really?"
Veronia seemed to hear something and pointed to two people fighting not too far away. Feng Yuan recognized one of them and, seeing them apparently going all out, asked with some curiosity,
"What exactly is going on here?"
Just then, a group of Brocade Fur Mice rushed out from the nearby greenery, heading straight for that man. Watching the man surrounded by the golden mice, Feng Yuan was surprised. What exactly was happening? Commanding Spirit Beasts to attack people in the middle of a road at night? That cannot be right, can it?
"I don’t know, but if I’m not mistaken, it’s forbidden to attack humans within the city, right?"
Agunas said uncertainly. Agunas wasn’t very clear about such matters and had only a vague memory, as it didn’t really concern him much. Surely if it were to attack a human, it would have been because the person had done something terrible. Otherwise, Agunas had no interest in harming humans.
"Yeah, which is why it’s odd. If someone’s caught doing this... it looks like there might be some special circumstances?"
Feng Yuan noticed a person in a Special Duty Team uniform walking by who seemed to be expressing gratitude to a girl when, at that moment, a Scholar Owl with red energy chains dragged a vagabond-looking man out from a nearby small park.
"Should we go check it out?"
"Whatever you want."
Seeing the look of anticipation on the other’s face, Agunas flicked his tail and said, while Veronia spoke with some disdain,
"He’s either a wanted criminal or a crook, no need to bother."
"It could also be a spy."
As Feng Yuan headed that way, he spoke, and Veronia paused for a moment before she remembered the problems Great Xia was currently facing. Besides, Feng Yuan was not just talking nonsense; the common criminals and wanted individuals would not alert the Special Duty Team, especially not now when they were short-staffed—the Team wouldn’t bother with less important matters.
And those who warranted the attention of the Special Duty Team, were not the sort of criminals ordinary people could handle either. Only spies were an exception because they were mostly not strong enough, and everyone knew it. An individual with immense power wouldn’t need to put in much effort or have any reason to sneak in.
Just like Feng Yuan, no one would bother speculating if he was a spy; it would be pointless. With his power, he could easily bulldoze the Divine Beasts, so why bother?
"If that’s the case..."
After hearing what Feng Yuan said, Veronia thought for a moment and, realizing they’d gone ahead without waiting for her, followed somewhat displeased.
"Catching a spy?"
"Is that you?"
Cheng Xiaoxiao looked at Feng Yuan with some confusion and asked,
"Why are you here so late at night?"
"Don’t you too?" And you’re capturing spies late at night? At least I have a nominal reason."
Feng Yuan replied with a smile as he shook his identification in his hand. A Special Duty Team member next to them looked at Feng Yuan with some bewilderment and asked,
"Is he, your friend?"
Hearing what he said, Cheng Xiaoxiao chuckled and replied,
"He, well, he’s sort of your colleague."
"No way! Wait, Agunas?"
The Special Duty Team member initially did not believe her, but upon noticing Agunas beside Feng Yuan, he immediately recognized who he was since Feng Yuan was quite well-known in the Maomu Special Service Team.
"So, has a spy really infiltrated us? But what on earth are they after in Maomu City?"
Feng Yuan looked at the man in handcuffs with some puzzlement and spoke. The Special Duty Team member, not quite understanding, scanned Feng Yuan and asked,
"How do you know he’s a spy? Did you receive some kind of message?"
With so many Divine Beasts behind Feng Yuan, it was possible he had some special channel of information. Cheng Xiaoxiao observed Feng Yuan’s clothes and said,
"Did you just part with Lanadi?"
"How did you know I just sent her off?"
Feng Yuan looked at his clothes with confusion; there was nothing particularly special about them, as he was not dressed formally and had simply put on a piece of his usual attire.
"I didn’t say that, but appearing here at this time, you must’ve just parted with Lanadi. Otherwise, you wouldn’t be out here on the streets at night."
Cheng Xiaoxiao smiled as she explained. At that moment, a girl crawled out of the bushes and said,
"Sorry, the others ran too fast; couldn’t find them."
"No worries, just knowing that a mouse has sneaked in is enough, thanks to you this time."
Cheng Xiaoxiao smiled at the girl. Seeing Feng Yuan staring at her, Cheng Xiaoxiao spoke with some curiosity,
"What? Do you know each other?"
The girl looked at Feng Yuan with puzzlement. She didn’t seem to recognize him? However, he did seem somewhat familiar—had she seen him somewhere before? Was it on TV? Just then, noticing Agunas beside Feng Yuan, the girl’s expression changed as she guessed his identity.
