Chapter 881: 882 Chapter: Mysterious Meteorite
"Unusual changes aren’t always good," Feng Yuan said as he rubbed Xiao Ji’s head, who stepped forward nervously. Hearing Feng Yuan’s words, Xiao Ji stepped back a few steps, fearfully looking at the meteorite. Agunas said somewhat speechlessly,
"You’re not seriously scaring it for fun, are you? How could that thing affect it?"
As a Divine Beast, it naturally wouldn’t be affected by those remnant rules. Otherwise, the Divine Beasts would have collected those meteorites long ago instead of letting them scatter all over the place. Hearing Agunas’s words, Xiao Ji glared unhappily at Feng Yuan, who laughed heartily, saying,
"What’s the harm in warning it? I don’t want to wake up one day and find it turned all metallic—that would feel terrible to touch!"
"So, you treat it like your plush toy?" Agunas flicked his tail around, a bit annoyed. Being a cartoonish crocodile in appearance, though he was wearing a Ritual Robe, his body was actually covered in scales, making it clear that Feng Yuan wouldn’t lay a hand on him.
"Is there a problem with that?" Feng Yuan said, embracing Xiao Ji. Big Cat looked at the meteorite ahead with some confusion. It seemed to sense something off about the rock. Noticing Big Cat’s movements, Lanadi stepped forward, glanced at the description tag, and said,
"A meteorite that keeps calling out? What’s that supposed to mean?"
Observing the metal orb that seemed familiar, Feng Yuan’s eyelids twitched and he said rather speechlessly,
"So, do the researchers really not know?"
"Is there a problem?" Agunas asked, puzzled, pointing at the spherical metal device. Feng Yuan incredulously responded,
"Don’t you think it resembles a technological device? With all this calling, do you still think there’s anything to doubt?"
Looking at the thing that nearly resembled a Star Ocean probe, even without having studied its internal structure in detail, Feng Yuan could guess what it was used for. It was strange that it had managed to cross the world barriers intact, but it wasn’t impossible.
Whether accidentally or intentionally, it could’ve come through the temporary cracks that appeared due to collisions across the barriers. He was just surprised that none of the local researchers recognized it.
"A Star Ocean probe? I don’t remember underwater probes looking like this."
Lanadi spoke doubtfully. The device was covered in a layer of dark metal and spherical in shape, having none of the typical features of a probe. At first glance, it even looked like an ancient metal ornament.
"That..."
Hesitating, Feng Yuan didn’t offer a detailed explanation. After all, he wasn’t sure whether Lanadi and her colleagues were entitled to know about other worlds. Strictly speaking, ordinary folks only knew about foreign enemies stealthily attacking the Alliance territories, but where they came from remained unclear—or perhaps they were intentionally misled to believe they came from undiscovered regions.
"Talking about extraterrestrial matters isn’t particularly secretive. It just shouldn’t be publicly discussed."
Looking around, Lanadi spoke softly. There weren’t many people inside the Meteorite Pavilion at the moment, so she felt rather uninhibited about discussing it. And the quiet guide following them? If she really wanted to understand, there were places for that; it just wasn’t publicly discussed to avoid chaos.
Given the main force against other worlds comprised Divine Beasts, with the Alliance and Divine Beast Hall executives merely assisting from the sidelines, only wars during the Guardian Wars that reached the interior of the homeland involved ordinary people. Rather than burden them with issues they couldn’t handle, it was better to not discuss them openly.
"That simplifies it. There’s a type of world similar to the Starry Sky, and this device is used in such environments. The propulsion nozzles should be inside the meteorite. How to put this... I think it’s better to dismantle it."
Feng Yuan looked at the device somewhat speechlessly. He could guess the so-called calling was the result of the device attempting to transmit signals back, but the fact that everyone could feel the ’calling’ indicated that the device’s technological level wasn’t low. It must have involved some rules; otherwise, it wouldn’t make everyone feel that way.
"Dismantle it, then?"
Lanadi looked at the guide, thought for a moment, and then said.
"When we go out later, talk to their leader about it."
"These external detectors really shouldn’t be left unattended."
Watching the detector meteorite, Lanadi spoke solemnly, after all, no one knew if that thing would provide coordinates to guide an external invasion.
"Detectors, you say? There have indeed been speculations about this, but since they can’t operate properly here due to their integrity and their extraterrestrial make, these speculations haven’t been recognized."
The tour guide exited the description on the paper and looked at Feng Yuan explaining, indeed, similar extraterrestrial machines have appeared before, but they mostly have been useless. Not to mention damaged ones, even those that are intact can’t be activated for use.
Moreover, this detector was entirely rounded with no apparent seams, making one wonder if it was simply a naturally formed metal block.
"Machines that can’t operate normally are generally the ones with lower versatility. Although the extraterrestrial environment is different from ours, the fundamental rules aren’t drastically different."
Shrugging helplessly, Feng Yuan said that different worlds manifest different environments. The root principles might be similar, but their material composition is not necessarily the same. Whether it’s technology or mystery, before reaching a certain level of development, it’s just about utilizing superficial aspects, which are extremely low in versatility.
"These still-operational devices are generally suspicious since achieving such versatility is something your technology can’t do."
Feng Yuan looked at Lanadi and said, after a moment of silence, Lanadi nodded and said,
"Indeed, the Alliance’s technology can’t achieve that level of universality, but... the technology of the G Organization might be possible."
"No, the G Organization’s technology is similar to yours. As for what they are using now against the Hunters, it’s the result of Ernis providing technical support behind the scenes, which is very targeted."
Agunas explained, surprised, Feng Yuan glanced at Agunas and said,
"When did they start collaborating? But Ernis helping the G Organization? That’s interesting."
"Can’t help it, the Hunters are too rampant. If the G Organization hadn’t intervened, the Divine Beasts guarding those abandoned cities would have suffered."
Hearing Agunas’s helpless remarks, Feng Yuan said with some surprise,
"Abandoned cities? What’s going on?"
"There are two or three ancient cities that were abandoned due to special circumstances. Xinmu, Luoxing, and Frostleaf are cities that were abandoned yet their guarding Divine Beasts still exist. Luoxing, because of the obstruction of stars, wasn’t targeted, but the other two became their primary targets."
Hearing Agunas’s explanation, Feng Yuan looked surprised, Lanadi said with some astonishment,
"Frostleaf was attacked as well? It seems they really don’t care."
"What’s strange? Is there a problem with Frostleaf City?"
Feng Yuan, puzzled, looked towards Agunas, too lazy to check the data, asking Agunas was faster. Agunas, rolling his eyes speechlessly, said,
"You’re getting lazier. Frostleaf City was permanently frozen during the Guard War due to the activation of the Ring of Frost, making it a hero city for humans. It shouldn’t have been targeted at all."
"Then you didn’t go to remove the Ice Seal? The difficulty shouldn’t be huge for you?"
Feng Yuan was puzzled—those strange Divine Artifacts could threaten the Divine Beasts, but they weren’t unmanageable extraterrestrial items. Theoretically, after the Guard War ended, they could have removed that Ice Seal.
Wagging his tail, Agunas said irritably,
"Some particularly special things were also sealed inside, plus humans had already evacuated that city at the time. Other than that, there was no life left, so they didn’t remove the Ice Seal."
"This green meteorite looks so strange."
Gladys looked at the green fluorescent meteorite with some confusion, feeling that something was off. Upon hearing the exclamation, everyone paused the conversation, and Feng Yuan’s face changed upon seeing that meteorite.
