Chapter 872: Chapter 873: Each Own’s Path

"It seems that your side isn’t as peaceful as you imagined," Feng Yuan said, holding Xiao Ji, and glanced at Lanadi with a slight smile.

"How do you know? Just guessing?" Lanadi returned the smile and asked.

"An explorer’s methods of attack differ from those used in battling other people. Yours seem more tailored to dealing with humans rather than dangerous mechanisms."

Holding the eagle Xiao Ji, Feng Yuan said with a chuckle as Lanadi looked at him and commented, "Don’t you also have abilities that ordinary people lack? Or should I say, that weapon of yours, if not for you, I’m afraid nobody else could use it, right?"

Xiao Ji crowed proudly, seemingly very pleased with the weapon exclusive to Feng Yuan, who, while petting Xiao Ji’s head, said with a hint of amusement, "It’s just a variety of different types of weapons, nothing too difficult."

The two chatted as they returned to the hall. Dou Yanlan took Qi Chen’s hand and whispered in his ear, "How about we take a walk by the lake?"

Qi Chen scratched his head, chuckling foolishly as he followed Dou Yanlan out. Gladys looked at Yu Xian’er with a smile and said, "Seems like it’s just the two of us left now, right?"

Yu Xian’er, finding it somewhat amusing, shook her head and replied, "Come with me. That thing might be useful to you."

"Useful to me?"

Gladys was puzzled. She and Yu Xian’er weren’t exactly close, so why would the latter have something for her? She felt something was off, but then Yu Xian’er turned her head, smiled faintly and said, "If you’re willing to protect this city, it might be a good idea to give it to you."

"Why me? Aren’t Feng Yuan and Qi Chen better qualified than I am?"

Gladys was confused, not suspecting Yu Xian’er of harboring ill intentions towards her—there was no need to. As Yu Xian’er led the way, she explained, "Agunas told me that you’ll likely settle down here in the future. If any trouble arises, it would be better to have you handle it. Qi Chen and the others’ futures might not lie here, so..."

"You’re entrusting it to me? Could it be that you..."

Gladys was still dubious, but Yu Xian’er just smiled and said, "The modern world no longer needs us Guardian Divine Beasts, and besides..."

Yu Xian’er turned to face Gladys with a bright smile and added, "I don’t plan on giving up just yet."

Lowering her head, Yu Xian’er continued, "It’s just that there are so many enemies we’ll have to face in the future; I need to gather some allies."

"Wouldn’t the Special Duty Team be better for that?"

Gladys was skeptic, knowing that the relationship between Yu Xian’er and the Special Duty Team must be good since their goals aligned. Yu Xian’er shook her head and said, "It’s different, the Crystal Mirror doesn’t mean much to them, but for you, with the ability to see through the fog of time, it might be much more useful."

"It looks like Agunas really did tell you everything."

Gladys crossed her arms in front of her chest and said with slight resignation, to which Yu Xian’er smiled and continued, "After all, we’ve got quite a number of enemies, so..."

"External enemies, yes? Indeed, though he doesn’t seem like he’ll leave this place either. I accept," Gladys said thoughtfully. If she didn’t leave Maomu City, indeed, she could hardly stand by and do nothing if something happened. Perhaps it didn’t matter to her how the city fared, but it might not be the same for teacher Yan.

"Strange? Where’s everyone else?"

Feng Yuan, somewhat puzzled, looked around and realized that Qi Chen and the others had all disappeared. Agunas flicked his tail, saying to Xiao Ji, "Come for a walk with me."

Xiao Ji looked at Agunas, seemingly reluctant, and after Agunas whispered something to him, he left, albeit grudgingly. Seeing this, Feng Yuan said with resignation, "Is that really necessary?"

"Hehe, making room on purpose, huh?"

Lanadi seemed to find it somewhat amusing as she glanced at Feng Yuan and sighed,

"Sometimes I really envy her, not having to enjoy the care of everyone, and naturally, not having to bear that responsibility. Mulati is truly..."

"Who is that?"

Feng Yuan was puzzled, and Lanadi chuckled before explaining,

"Our former chieftain of the Thousand Stars Tribe. Back in the day, she was the only one among us who could speak the common language of the Divine Land Region, but sadly, to this day, I haven’t managed to master the divine tongue."

Remembering how fluently Feng Yuan had spoken the divine language, Lanadi felt a twinge of envy. It was a special language that could ignore language barriers, and the difficulty in mastering it was simply too great.

"Do you need me to teach you?"

Feng Yuan scratched his head with a brilliant smile, but Lanadi shook her head and said,

"No need, I’ll be leaving in a few days. Mulati is getting on in years, and no one else in the tribe has the ability. If only you could return with me, that would be great..."

"That’s clearly impossible."

Feng Yuan said somewhat speechlessly. He had no intention of going back with her. Not to mention he wasn’t particularly interested in the Mordan region, and who knew what would happen if he went back with Lanadi? He always found her strange; to think that after just about a week of acquaintance she would have taken a liking to him, and that feeling lasted so long?

Leaning on the railing of the corridor, Lanadi stuck her head out into the hallway and looked at the shimmering blue crystal, sparkling with tiny lights, and said,

"Yes, if you followed me that easily, it wouldn’t be like the person I remember."

"Loves to be mischievous, often does seemingly useless things, is powerful, appears confident about everything, seems to understand everything, and seems to have many strengths~"

Lanadi said turning her head to look at Feng Yuan,

"Compared to those indecisive folks in the tribe or those who could be easily coaxed into believing anything, it’s that person who, even if deceived, is confident they can turn the tables at any moment and watches on like a bystander who is more charming~"

Feng Yuan gave a somewhat embarrassed smile and said,

"You’re flattering me too much, I could get a big head."

"Really? But it’s clear you don’t care at all, don’t you?"

"Don’t worry, I won’t pester you. I came to see you just to keep an appointment, and also to see what my childhood knight had become. Now that my wish is fulfilled, I should focus on tribe matters."

Lanadi said trying to sound nonchalant, and Feng Yuan glanced at her before asking,

"Is it very troublesome? Actually, you don’t have to personally deal with everything. Why not try to trust the abilities of others? At least from that group back then, many had decent abilities in certain areas, didn’t they?"

Lanadi turned around, her hands propped on the railing, looking out at the cave bathed in a faint blue glow, and said,

"Yes, that’s what I’ve been doing. Unfortunately, no one can replace me in making the big decisions... or rather, there are those who can, but they’re not suitable."

"Big decisions? You’re not misusing some sort of divination abilities, are you?"

Feng Yuan was slightly surprised and asked. Lanadi shook her head and said,

"No, those who play with time will eventually be played by time. We only glean a sliver of possibility, and analyze more on our own, it’s just..."

"It’s all the same, even if you’re only getting a glimpse of a possibility in the future, the side effects won’t necessarily be small."

Feng Yuan said with a disdainful curl of his lip, to which Lanadi chuckled,

"No choice. It was by doing so that Mulati brought the Thousand Stars Tribe to where it is today. Although we know it carries future troubles, there isn’t much we can do in the short term. The environment in the Mordan region is actually... not so great."

"Is Veludante still causing trouble there? If that’s the case, I can get Agunas and the others to take it away."

Feng Yuan said, somewhat astonished. If Veludante persisted in wreaking havoc, it might not be fit to continue guarding the Mordan region. Hearing Feng Yuan’s words, Lanadi laughed and said,

"Not anymore. Veludante calmed down a lot after it fought with Lorna."

"Lorna? The time-space Guardian? She managed to defeat a Divine Beast face-to-face? That is indeed special."

Feng Yuan was genuinely surprised. Veludante was no weak Divine Beast; the gap in strength between Sacred Beasts and Divine Beasts wasn’t small, and Lorna’s situation wasn’t so simple.

"Who knows, nobody really understands what the situation with Lorna is."

Lanadi sighed, sounding resigned.

"This is the Crystal Mirror, it’s yours now."

Yu Xian’er turned around, smiling at Gladys, as she handed it over. Looking at the Crystal Mirror in front of her, Gladys said with some surprise,

"This is called the Crystal Mirror?"
