Chapter 866: Chapter 867: The Battle Begins
"The device on Jingping Mountain, is that something for you to handle, or should we take care of it?"
Feng Yuan swept a glance at the sole mountain peak in the park and asked, to which Lanadi pondered for a moment and said,
"We’ll handle it, leave the area around the lake to you. Once that’s done, head over to help the others."
"Then be careful."
Feng Yuan looked at the red beam of light that shot straight into the sky from the mountain top and said. At this moment, besides the Rune Chain he had laid out, there was a special force separating Jingyue Park from the outside world. That force seemed somewhat familiar, like a special stance device?
"What’s on Jingping Mountain?"
As she ran towards the lakeside, Dou Yanlan inquired. Though Jingping Mountain was not tall, and because of its steep terrain, it didn’t cover a large area, if Feng Yuan singled it out like this, it definitely meant there was something wrong with that place.
"The main body of the restriction device is there; I have no idea how they conduct their patrols, missing such a big thing."
Feng Yuan expressed helplessly. A lack of manpower was an important reason, but at a place like the top of Jingping Mountain, where there was so little space, their equipment wasn’t equipped with infinite energy sources that broke the rules; there should always be some traces when setting up.
"Normally, they wouldn’t patrol such a place, right?"
Qi Chen said, somewhat speechlessly. Normally, who would think of climbing to the top of a mountain for a patrol? Although it was possible to ride a Spirit Beast that could fly for a quick sweep, in non-special periods, most cities had a flying ban in place, preventing arbitrary flight in the sky.
"First, let’s check Shuichao Cave. If they’ve already made a move on Yu Xian’er, then that would be troublesome."
Feng Yuan recalled something and said, to which Dou Yanlan thought for a moment and said,
"If they hadn’t discovered Shuichao Cave, wouldn’t our going there lead them right to it?"
"What of it? If they dare to show up, we dare to take care of them."
Feng Yuan said nonchalantly. Although he wouldn’t make a move before Qi Chen and the others failed, the difficulty of stopping those people in his current state wasn’t too great.
Agunas looked at the slowly rotating Golden Colossus behind Feng Yuan and asked,
"How long can you maintain this state?"
"A day and a half at most; after all, this power isn’t strictly mine."
Looking at the black patterns gradually appearing on his wrist, Feng Yuan said offhandedly while Agunas flicked her tail and said,
"Take care of yourself; don’t make Xiao Ji sad."
"Heh heh — of course, this little thing isn’t enough to beat me —"
Feng Yuan scratched his head and said proudly.
"They’re actually making a move on them?"
Old Wei emerged from the shadows and looked at the ancient city cut off from the rest, murmuring softly. Sighing, Old Wei murmured,
"They really are too careless."
Beneath the tower where Old Wei stood, several individuals clad in the G Organization’s black robes, armed with weapons, watched warily as the strange humans approached -- those people were clad in weird metals, and though those metal armors slightly resembled the knightly armors from the Dynasty period in Omeilia, the armors from that era didn’t have those strange glowing decorations.
Watching the ancient city below, now embroiled in battle, Old Wei narrowed his eyes and murmured softly,
"A feint? Heh, interesting, let’s go."
Old Wei turned and leaped down from the tower. The dark shadow instantly spread, engulfing the entire tower. A shadowy beast as high as the tower itself emerged; its powerful arms thrashed wildly, tearing through the boundaries of shadow and reality, breaking free from the shadow’s constraints, and emitting a deafening roar.
With a mighty swing of its powerful hands, it knocked out a huge mechanical device hidden within Subspace. The mechanical device resembled an enlarged version of a human but was made entirely of an unknown metal. The opponent took a huge lance from its back and aimed it at the shadow beast, ready to fire at any moment.
"Mecha? Interesting, it seems they’re getting close."
Old Wei showed a sinister smile on his face and murmured softly. The shadows swiftly spread towards the direction of the Mecha, with dark claws extending from within the shadows, gripping onto the Mechas in Subspace and dragging them out.
Suddenly, the ancient city was filled with out-of-place silver mechs. Looking at those mechs, Old Wei revealed a gloomy smile and said,
"Fireworks, huh? It’s been a long time since I’ve seen them~"
One by one, black spikes shot out from the shadows, piercing through the azure energy fields and puncturing the silver mechs. Moments later, the shadows corroded the internal components of the mechs, ignoring the pilots who were fleeing in panic. Old Wei snapped his fingers.
The brilliant fireworks, along with a sky full of metallic debris, proclaimed the enemy’s defeat within the ancient city.
"Going after them?"
Resting in the Silver Tower, Lorraine Tower suddenly opened her eyes and murmured in surprise, her Divine Sense swiftly sweeping across Mist Island. Once she confirmed there were no problems on Mist Island, Lorraine Tower spread her wings and flew towards the distant Shen Zhou Continent.
"So troublesome, can’t they let me rest a little longer?"
Gitalien, who was tasting snacks with a little girl, complained unhappily. Bending over, Gitalien patted the girl’s head and said something to the somewhat puzzled woman beside them. Li Nian, standing nearby, stomped her foot as if dissatisfied. Gitalien chuckled as he flicked Li Nian’s forehead and disappeared from the street in a spin, leaving no one but them aware that a middle-aged man had been here.
"Jump on."
"Can I really come with you? I feel like I can wait here for you to return and prepare your favorite foods."
The woman clenched her hands nervously, her worry turning into a happy smile, as the metal giant deer glanced at the woman and said softly,
"Staying here isn’t safe; they will track my scent. They simply can’t protect you."
"But..."
"You aren’t capable of holding me back yet."
Ernis said disdainfully, and the woman, seeing Ernis’s proud demeanor, laughed softly and carefully climbed onto Ernis’s back, whispering with a light giggle,
"I don’t want to be your weakness."
"Other city Guardian Divine Beasts have been attacked as well."
Agunas flicked its tail, and after yawning, Feng Yuan cautiously eyed the two people and the eagle moving ahead, saying,
"That isn’t hard to guess. If they make a move, it will definitely be everywhere at once. Otherwise, once there’s precaution, it won’t be so easy next time."
"Now, those people at the entrance can’t be moved out, and Gitalien can’t make it in time..."
"Didn’t you send Little Green Snake to help? In this sort of Subspace, Little Green Snake can handle it, or rather, Little Green Snake is more adept at dealing with this thing than Gitalien."
"So that’s why you had me notify Little Green Snake."
Agunas said thoughtfully, intuitively ignoring the authority of Little Green Snake’s Divine Beast, which was responsible for the Subspace and other worlds and was stronger than Gitalien in dealing with such things.
"Ah Mu! Wooden spikes!"
Qi Chen suddenly commanded, and sharp wooden spikes rose from the ground, forming a barrier in front of Qi Chen and Dou Yanlan, blocking the red light rays. Seeing this, Feng Yuan expressed some surprise,
"Not bad at all, significant improvement."
"Indeed, those ray weapons have insufficient killing power against solid barriers, but their speed is extremely fast. If they were to use moves like a wooden shield, the attack might hit before the move is even cast."
They had encountered those ray guns before—it wasn’t the first time. During a previous encounter with a trio wielding such weapons, Qi Chen and his group, lacking experience, raised energy barriers that were easily penetrated by the bullets from the ray guns. If not for Feng Yuan’s timely deployment of Death Fog, they might have been wounded upon first contact.
"Cotton, it’s up to you."
Dou Yanlan murmured softly as she glanced down at Cotton by her feet. Nodding, Cotton meowed and leaped into the air, spreading a fog that quickly expanded. Seeing this move, Feng Yuan said with a bit of a headache,
"Recklessly using regular fog before understanding what type of light those ray weapons emit can easily backfire."
"Why?"
Agunas didn’t understand, and at that moment, streaks of red light ran wild in front of them. The rays seemed to refract chaotically off the fog. Feng Yuan waved his hand, and the Golden Colossus behind him spun rapidly, enveloping everyone in a black Death Fog. Feng Yuan shrugged helplessly as he said,
"That’s exactly it. Some of those ray weapons have a nasty ability to produce refraction and splitting effects by utilizing things with refractive properties."
