Chapter 826: Chapter 827: The Man in the Black Robe
Glancing at the Little Husky, Veronia turned her head away with slight dissatisfaction and patted Xiao Ji, as the Little Husky spoke out,
"Fly lower, let’s take a closer look."
Agunas looked at these special spaces of different forms with some confusion. Although most of them were mazes, they seemed to have various deadly traps inside. Even within the Tower of Oblivion, which had emergency escape mechanisms, these traps were very lethal, and now that they stood alone, they had become even more dangerous.
"What exactly are these things used for?"
The Little Husky spoke with some bewilderment, naturally noticing something off about this place. Those traps appeared to be usable for real combat training, but the exposure of a special core area in each unique space after they were isolated proved that each held its own secrets.
"There seems to be someone over there, let’s land."
Upon hearing Feng Yuan’s instruction, Xiao Ji descended towards a black-robed figure standing on top of a tall stone temple, looking into the distance. Following her gaze, a tall stone tower stood far off in the distance.
"Guardian?"
After just a glance at the black-robed figure, the Little Husky jumped down from Xiao Ji and, landing nimbly beside her on a stone plinth, proudly flicked his tail and looked at the black-robed person, asking,
"Enjoying the view here?"
The black-robed figure glanced at the Little Husky but did not respond. Returning to his original form, Feng Yuan then realized that the person before him was a woman. Though obscured by the thick black robe, Feng Yuan still recognized her gender from that distinctive feature.
"Why aren’t you dealing with this anomaly and instead staring solely at me?"
The woman spoke in a cold tone, and Feng Yuan stepped forward, saying,
"Because I do not wish to destroy these things so crudely. Do you have any information you could share with me?"
"Information? No."
She turned to leave as she spoke, and Feng Yuan did not stop her but simply said softly,
"To avoid incessant trouble, perhaps we should consider obliterating all these spaces."
"What has that to do with me?"
"Is it really so?"
As Feng Yuan spoke, he pulled out a Dark Ancient Book, and the sound of a dragon’s roar filled the air; the sky in the area darkened, as the Cang Ming Dragon flapped its wings and came back into reality.
"Can you truly not reveal what is hidden within those spaces?"
Feng Yuan saw that she remained unmoved and asked. In her hand emerged a card with a bizarre pattern, which she tossed lightly. The card hit the ground, and red Rune spread in all directions. Xiao Ji, in a panic, rushed to Feng Yuan’s side, pressing close to him, while Agunas frowned slightly.
Surrounded by the red Runes, high walls began to rise, with torches burning crimson flames on them to provide light for the passage. Feng Yuan’s surroundings had become akin to a passageway within an underground palace, the red light intertwining to form a series of stone statues.
Dim yellow lights on the walls composed one eerie decoration after another. They looked so bizarre that even in a landscape painting, they would cause discomfort in the viewer.
"Really..."
Feng Yuan shook his head with a sense of resignation, while Agunas, frowning slightly with disgust, said,
"The same power as that of E Hua Temple."
"So, was it her doing at E Hua Temple? Why would she do that?"
Feng Yuan, puzzled, waved the Dark Ancient Book in his hand, and the dragon’s roar sounded again. Xiao Ji, nervous, stood protectively in front of Feng Yuan, who, touching Xiao Ji’s head, was not at all anxious. The sound of stone shattering echoed as the rock covering the exterior of those statues broke apart, falling to the ground and revealing the Metallic Statues within.
"Do you really want to fight? Xiao Ji, it’s up to you. Don’t use Death Series powers."
Feng Yuan gently nudged Xiao Ji as he spoke. These statues were entirely driven by special forces and had no souls, making Death Series powers useless against them.
Xiao Ji nodded, flapped his wings, and wind blades flew all over the corridor, slicing the Metallic Statues into metal fragments that danced in the air. Agunas and Veronia were puzzled, wondering why these things were so fragile.
"Finally... will we meet again?"
The light was fading, the surrounding noise gradually disappeared, and darkness kept devouring everything around. Although cold, it also felt strangely comforting. Something seemed to be approaching in the distance, that white fluff fluttering about as it ran. Even as the vision blurred, one could still clearly see its form.
"Your injury still hasn’t healed..."
Gently brushing across the colossal wound on the other’s face, the white creature shivered with dissatisfaction, as if sensing its discontent gaze...
"Sorry... I couldn’t keep my promise to you..."
"I’ve always wanted to see you... but they say... only the same..."
Cradling the white creature, their voice gradually softened, as if drifting off to sleep, while the white creature shook itself as if bearing a shadow on its back. It ignored the marvelous sights around it and moved toward the fading speck of light, seemingly fixated on that candle-like glimmer.
"It’s not your fault, who could have expected this, right?"
Feng Yuan consoled Xiao Ji, who was filled with guilt, in a low voice while Agunas, swishing its tail, looked perplexedly at the robed figure and said,
"What exactly does she want to do?"
"I don’t know, she could have done it by herself, so why go to such lengths?"
Feng Yuan said, puzzled. Veronia scrutinized the black-robed person lying on the ground with curiosity. Although the massive wound on their body had healed by then, whether or not they could be brought back remained uncertain. After a while, the person suddenly opened their eyes and, seeing Feng Yuan, bellowed with dissatisfaction,
"Why did you save me!"
"Hey! I don’t care if you’re seeking death, just hand over the information first. You must know what’s going on here."
Feng Yuan replied, speechless. If it weren’t for his lack of specific information about these magical spaces, he wouldn’t bother saving anyone. Did they really think he had nothing better to do than to save everyone he saw? Although others might also understand the situation here, Feng Yuan didn’t know where to seek them at the moment, and this person clearly knew the causes of these special spaces.
The black-robed person reached out to grab Feng Yuan, but he had already dodged away, his hood falling off with the movement to reveal disheveled long hair. While the person was quite attractive, their tangled hair and slightly distorted face made them look more like a lunatic.
Noticing Feng Yuan’s evasion, she suddenly covered her face and sat on the ground, sobbing woefully. Agunas, swishing its tail, said with a touch of impatience,
"Has she gone mentally unstable? Can we still get an answer out of her?"
"I don’t know..."
Scratching his head, Feng Yuan was also unsure. At that moment, a White Shadow Wolf appeared behind Feng Yuan, whining softly. Feng Yuan smiled and petted the wolf, which stood half a person tall, and said,
"You’ve worked hard."
Xiao Ji watched the White Shadow Wolf with a hint of jealousy. Gazing at the scar on the creature’s face, Agunas expressed curiously,
"It should be able to heal that scar on its own, right? Why..."
"A memento, it seems. It got this while defending its beloved wife from an enemy and has kept it ever since. I’m not too clear about the specifics."
Feng Yuan said in a soft voice while gently stroking the scar on the White Shadow Wolf’s face. The wolf pawed at the ground, then looked at Feng Yuan and wagged its tail. Patting the White Shadow Wolf’s head, Feng Yuan smiled and said,
"Alright, now that the person has been saved, we probably won’t need your help anymore, you can go now~"
"That’s cold, just to let it go after using it."
Agunas remarked disdainfully. Feng Yuan, glancing at Agunas with dissatisfaction, retorted,
"Little Crocodile, do you have a complaint? Its task is done; why would I keep it here? Besides, its wife might be waiting at their den for it to return~"
"Is it a coincidence...?"
"Why! Why did you save me!"
The woman shouted frantically at Feng Yuan, who, glancing at her, replied irritably,
"Haven’t I already told you? Tell me about the origin and the information of this Tower of Oblivion. That’s all I want to know. What does it matter to me whether you want to live or do whatever else!"
"Heh... Then why did you save me!"
"How could I ask anything if I didn’t save you first? Don’t think I don’t know that your soul would directly enter the cycle of reincarnation upon death. Then I would have no one to ask!"
Feng Yuan shouted back, annoyed. The fact was just that; she was an outsider, and dying here would mean her soul would instantly enter reincarnation, leaving him no chance to even capture the soul.
