Chapter 768: Chapter 769: Incoming_1

"I can’t protect that many people,"

the granny from Lorraine Tower said in an unpleasant tone after glancing around. If the intruder had been caught up in events by accident, that would be one thing, but he had entered on his own, and his attire indicated that he was not one of the staff here.

She had always been unfriendly to those who dared trespass without the power to back themselves up. Agunas looked at Granny Mianlan with some surprise, but remembering that not many knew of Lorraine Tower’s human incarnation, he said nothing. Feng Yuan, with a smile, said,

"Don’t worry, it can protect itself."

Granny Mianlan glanced at Feng Yuan without saying much, merely instructing Panni silently to be more vigilant of their surroundings.

"To think they are actually in the main house?"

Feng Yuan was somewhat surprised to see Xiao Ji land in front of the main mansion’s gate, having assumed that those people would be in the guardhouse they had passed earlier. Dou Yanlan looked at the ghostly mansion and said,

"Perhaps they were just working on the mansion’s mechanisms?"

After touring the Foreyn mansion, Dou Yanlan was certain that the main mansion’s design was the most numerous and complex, making it likely that they were checking and repairing it after the others had left.

"Why... is the ritual also being held here?"

Lorraine Tower frowned, puzzled as he stared at the mansion before him. Noticing the barbed vines blocking the door, Feng Yuan turned to Agunas and said,

"Shall I leave it to you?"

"It can’t handle it?"

"I’m afraid Xiao Ji will just tear the house down," Feng Yuan said, resulting in Xiao Ji, who was preening its feathers, glaring at Feng Yuan in dissatisfaction. Granny Mianlan stepped forward and instructed,

"Panni! Be careful and clear these vines."

The golden fluff on Panni’s head radiated a pale yellow light, as emerald vines grew from the ground occasionally seeping red liquid, coiling like tentacles around the spiked vines sealing the door. However, the barbed vines quickly turned semi-transparent, eluding the green vines which flitted aimlessly without a target.

"That’s Ghost Vine; you can’t touch it directly. Any plant other than those from the Life Series will get hurt if they come into contact with it," Feng Yuan explained as he observed the green vines that were starting to turn yellow. Granny Mianlan immediately instructed Panni to change her approach, but the elusive nature of the Ghost Vine, constantly shifting between solid and intangible, made it impossible to grasp.

"Is it not possible to find their root system?" Dou Yanlan asked with some confusion, to which Granny Mianlan shook her head and said,

"No, I’ve already observed it. Not to mention they conceal their roots by intertwining, many special Spirit Plants would go berserk if their roots are destroyed, which could be harmful to the people inside."

Lorraine Tower seemed to notice something, his expression growing dark. With a wave of his hand, silver-white starlight flickered across the Ghost Vines and in moments, they turned to ash and scattered in the wind.

Lorraine Tower, without offering any explanation to the others, strode forward and forcefully pushed open the mansion door, shouting,

"Stop!"

At that moment, the staff in the hall were all stunned, with only the tailcoat-clad gentleman whom Feng Yuan and others had previously encountered eyeing Lorraine Tower with an inscrutable expression.

"Are you looking for trouble?"

Examining the magic circle on the floor glowing with yellow light, Feng Yuan said in disbelief. The man in the tailcoat looked somewhat disappointed and peering past the others, said,

"You are..."

"Li Gui! What are you doing? Didn’t we say not to research these forbidden things?!" Granny Mianlan stepped out from behind Lorraine Tower and scolded the man in the tailcoat. At that moment, a staff member, looking surprised, said,

"Manager Li said this was a distress signal circle, isn’t it? Could there be some problem?"

Glaring at Li Gui, Granny Mianlan angrily said,

"They don’t understand, but how could you not know?! This kind of demon-summoning ritual circle, even before the war, was taboo and forbidden! How dare you!"

Li Gui bit his lip, not defending himself, unwilling to lie in front of Granny Mianlan, whom he respected. The surrounding staff began to shift uneasily, distancing themselves from Li Gui.

Lorraine Tower stepped forward and waved his hand, and all the materials on the magic circle turned to ashes and scattered. He looked at Li Gui and warned,

"I don’t know what exactly you’re trying to do, but calling for help from the outside world? How do you know the one you summon won’t be an invader?! If there’s a next time, I won’t be so polite with you!"

Though Lorraine Tower typically preferred to dispose of such daredevils swiftly, it was evident that Granny Mianlan, either intentionally or not, was protecting him. Given Foreyn’s good relationship with Granny Mianlan, Lorraine Tower, for Foreyn’s sake, decided to spare him.

"Um, the reason you’ve come here is...?"

"I’m going to warn the others outside not to save one group only for another to fall into danger," Lorraine Tower said to Feng Yuan without bothering to explain further, and then he turned and left. Agunas, flicking his tail, said,

"Captain Yan’s team has arrived outside."

"No wonder..."

Feng Yuan also found himself at a loss for words. When sealing off the connection point, all Ghost Series and Death Series Spirit Beasts needed to leave this overlapping area, otherwise, they could be accidentally taken into the Netherworld. Once that happened, finding them would be troublesome as the Netherworld was so vast, and the entrance points were not restricted to a single location.

"What about your Spirit Beasts? Are they all here? Hurry up and take them away with you."

"Wait, I remember there used to be quite a few Ghost Series Spirit Beasts living here. Where are they?"

Granny Mianlan looked towards Li Gui, who started explaining as he caught her gaze,

"They’re all here. We only asked for their help and didn’t drive them away. In fact, many rooms were specifically sealed for their use as rest areas."

"Take them with you when you leave."

Feng Yuan spoke up. Li Gui looked perplexed, glancing between Feng Yuan and Granny Mianlan. Seeing the old lady staring at him, Feng Yuan explained,

"When we start sealing the connection point and rebuilding the barrier, the Ghost Series and Death Series Spirit Beasts will be attracted by the power of the Netherworld and directly pulled in. At that time, it wouldn’t differentiate whether they’re from the Netherworld or not. So, it’s best to take all the Spirit Beasts belonging to this area away first."

"Don’t run off!"

Upon seeing the workers looking like they were about to leave after the explanation, Granny Mianlan sternly reprimanded them. She glanced at Li Gui and asked,

"Is everyone here?"

"No, there are still quite a few people resting in the security room. An anomaly occurred in the main house earlier, and we came over to check..."

Li Gui purposefully concealed his true purpose, and Granny Mianlan chose not to pursue the matter at this time, thinking Li Gui should know the gravity of the situation.

"The security room, huh..."

Feng Yuan frowned slightly. Qi Chen gestured towards the gathered Ghost Series Spirit Beasts outside and said to Feng Yuan,

"How should we handle these?"

"Xiao Ji!"

Upon hearing Feng Yuan calling him, Xiao Ji, who had been grooming his feathers, looked up at Feng Yuan. Seeing Feng Yuan motion toward the door and voicing his displeasure, Xiao Ji let out a groan and a pale blue fireball blasted out. The Ghost Series Spirit Beasts outside scattered in all directions. Those were clearly Common Level Ghost Series Spirit Beasts that had lived in the Netherworld. They would naturally be afraid of their natural enemy, the Death Series, especially since Xiao Ji was stronger than they were.

"Let’s go. First, we take away those Ghost Series Spirit Beasts, then we head to the security room to find the people. You should know the exact number of people, right?"

Feng Yuan rubbed Xiao Ji on the head and nodded. Li Gui said,

"Of course, we know. But if..."

"At most, they’ll send people to odd places. There won’t be too much danger. We can’t keep running back and forth, can we?"

"Is it you?"

Seeing the white-haired middle-aged man walking towards him, Captain Yan was taken aback and asked,

"What happened here?"

"A spatial overlap, between the Netherworld and reality."

Lorraine Tower said calmly and, after pondering for a moment, Captain Yan asked Lorraine Tower,

"What do we need to do?"

"Seal off the area to prevent accidental entry."

"When will it be resolved?"

"There are no interlopers inside."

Watching Lorraine Tower walk away, Captain Yan quickly arranged for his team to set up a cordon to prevent people from accidentally wandering in and causing trouble for Lorraine Tower and the others.

"Boss, why... Captain~"

After glaring at the chattering team member, Captain Yan said calmly,

"We can’t deal with this kind of situation. Spatial overlap... At least our special services team doesn’t have the means to cope with that."

"What if it’s lying to us?"

"There’s no need for it to lie. Plus, there have indeed been many instances of spatial overlaps recently."

"Could it be a consequence of the recent explosion at the border?"

Glancing at the speaking team member, Captain Yan said,

"It shouldn’t be. According to the specialists sent from the research institute, those overlapping areas seem to be influenced by something. While the exact cause is unknown, they are still investigating."

"How do they explain it?"

Someone curiously asked. Captain Yan stared at the person and said,

"No explanation. They don’t seem to be aware of it."
