Chapter 708: Chapter 709: Shadow_1
"What’s wrong with him?"
Dou Yanlan looked at Qi Chen, who was feeding Little Husky, with some confusion. She knew about Feng Yuan’s strange state and wasn’t surprised to see Qi Chen feeding human food to Little Husky.
Glancing at Little Husky, whose tail moved occasionally, Qi Chen said in a speechless manner,
"I have no idea. He seems to be busy researching something and hasn’t slept all night."
"Just staying up all night shouldn’t make him like this, should it?"
Dou Yanlan was puzzled. After all, Feng Yuan was strong; sleep shouldn’t be a big issue for him.
Looking around, Qi Chen whispered to Dou Yanlan about the incident that had occurred the previous night. After hearing his account, Dou Yanlan looked at Little Husky lying on the table and said,
"So, it’s because of that thing? But what exactly is it that he’s so wary of?"
Dou Yanlan was puzzled. Compared to Feng Yuan, she knew far too little, not even clear on what had happened.
"How did that guy turn out like this?"
Guo Huai scrutinized Feng Yuan, who lay on the table appearing half-asleep, and couldn’t ask his question.
"I don’t know."
Although he knew that Guo Huai and Feng Yuan had a unique relationship, Qi Chen did not intend to divulge the matter. He could trust Dou Yanlan, but not Guo Huai; he felt it was up to Feng Yuan to decide whether to tell him.
Scratching his head, Guo Huai said somewhat anxiously,
"Then when will he wake up?"
"I don’t know, but based on his habits, he should recover by the afternoon."
Qi Chen wasn’t entirely sure, but Feng Yuan usually slept in the morning and was back to his lively self by the afternoon in the past.
"The afternoon, huh..."
Guo Huai was anxious, but after some thought, he decided to come back in the afternoon to look for him.
Qi Chen looked at Guo Huai with some confusion, as the two of them only interacted when dealing with ancient history. They hardly mingled in class, and for Guo Huai to suddenly seek him out was puzzling.
Ever since learning that Drudgeon would visit weekly, the students, while not attending class daily, chose not to leave the school. Therefore, the senior year was much livelier than in the beginning of the school year, especially the combat fields. If not for Agunas maintaining the spatial expansion, even the junior and sophomore beast taming classes would struggle to proceed.
The teachers, though puzzled as to why Feng Yuan insisted on sleeping in the classroom, did not wake him, considering the great help he provided to the school and given his circumstances, the academic courses hardly mattered.
"Is there something?"
Yawning, Feng Yuan looked at Guo Huai with curiosity. Guo Huai hadn’t been at school recently, and it was unexpected to see him show up today.
"I have something I want to ask you."
"What’s that?"
"This."
Guo Huai didn’t specify, just handed over a piece of paper. After glancing at the content written on it, Feng Yuan looked up and said,
"Where did you get this? I doubt you had the chance to come into contact with this type of intelligence."
"Could it be you’re dealing with spies?"
"No! I stumbled upon it accidentally!"
"You expect me to believe that? It’s impossible for this information to be on the internet, at least not openly."
"You didn’t use some special methods, did you?"
Feng Yuan eyed Guo Huai skeptically. Guo Huai took a few guilty steps back and said in a low voice,
"I was just trying out my skills... don’t worry, no one noticed."
"Tsk, you seem to have forgotten about data-based spirit beasts. To my knowledge, the Maomu Special Service Team has several such creatures. Do you think you truly weren’t detected?"
"This..."
Guo Huai was taken aback. Looking at the streaming cold sweat, Feng Yuan yawned and spoke,
"Alright, I’ll talk to Captain Yang later, but you’d better not talk about this to anyone else."
"You really know?!"
"Do you remember Sethvon Derek?"
"Who is that?"
Guo Huai looked bewildered. After some thought, he remained confused and asked,
"Are you referring to... the Federation traitor?"
"What is your opinion of him?"
"What opinion can there be! Just a traitor! To think he actually climbed to that position!"
With disgust in his voice, Guo Huai chuckled and glanced at Feng Yuan. Then, looking at Qi Chen not far away, he said,
"Then you’re mistaken."
"Are you calling me?"
Approaching with a puzzled look, Qi Chen came over as it seemed Feng Yuan had signaled him to do so. Nodding his head, Feng Yuan said,
"About this matter, I’ve understood it now, actually it hasn’t reached that stage yet."
"What’s happened?"
Feng Yuan smiled at Qi Chen and said,
"Although I don’t know if they can persist from start to finish, the current situation has not become that severe yet."
"It’s actually a coincidence. The team where your father is, just got exploited by Sharlo’s people, so..."
Listenting to Feng Yuan’s explanation, Qi Chen’s face grew very grim. The situation was not complicated: Sharlo, in collusion with a few neighboring countries, wanted to declare war on Great Xia. But due to the preexisting issue of invaders from Odinis, Great Xia was not ready for a fight. Also, the Divine Beasts that protect Great Xia were not in the Divine Land Region. Therefore, if the other side were to make a move, Great Xia might fall into a crisis.
Thus, they were reluctantly forced to abandon the team that accidentally crossed the border to avoid Sharlo using them as a pretext to launch an attack. After all, without legitimate reasons, other countries and Divine Beasts might not simply stand by and ignore them starting a war.
"But why..."
Struggling to accept it, Guo Huai asked. To give up was understandable, but that kind of announcement...
"There’s no choice, it’s difficult to dissociate otherwise, although they also don’t wish to do so, but in order to buy time..."
Feng Yuan gave a sigh of resignation, and Qi Chen, grasping Feng Yuan’s shoulder, said,
"You must have a way, right?"
"Of course, it’s not a big problem if we let Lorraine Tower and the others help. However, it’s also fortunate that they haven’t decided yet."
Feng Yuan scratched his head and said, he could guess why they hadn’t decided yet—it was likely they were waiting, hoping for a miracle. They wouldn’t want to do such a thing until the very last moment.
"And these documents..."
Glancing at Guo Huai, Feng Yuan said calmly,
"If you can find them, it indicates there’s a problem. Do you think you can compare in cyber warfare with those Data-based Spirit Beasts that attack along the network wires?"
"You mean..."
"It’s probably other countries’ people who noticed and want to cause trouble. After all, some things are hard for the majority to understand."
With a sigh, a white wolf-like light appeared in Feng Yuan’s hand and then leapt into the void, disappearing.
"You suspect that they have Divine Beasts helping them?"
"It’s not suspicion, but certainty. Without the acquiescence of Divine Beasts, would they dare to do this?"
Feng Yuan glanced at Agunas with irritation and said, which was also why he didn’t use the Divine Beasts network to contact Lorraine Tower. If they knew, who knows what troubles they could stir up.
"The fewer people know about these matters the better, and one-sided information only leads to incorrect conclusions."
Feng Yuan felt somewhat helpless about this; it wasn’t suitable for public disclosure, but keeping it secret led to the current situation. He also understood why Captain Yang was so furious. He could be certain that the other side didn’t understand the whole truth.
"But can you guarantee that if Lorraine Tower gets involved, things won’t get worse?"
Agunas asked warily, as if remembering something.
"Cannot..."
With a heavy sigh, Feng Yuan replied helplessly. Dou Yanlan looked at Feng Yuan and then at Guo Huai. As for Qi Chen, she had given up on him; he was not suited for this kind of matter. She had long told Qi Chen to leave these issues to her.
"It seems none of you have any good plans."
"Considering so much all at once..."
Scratching his head, Feng Yuan said with some irritation. Although he knew what had happened, he couldn’t find a better solution immediately. After all, the recent series of secretive attacks had affected most countries to varying degrees. At this time, no one dared to show their vulnerabilities.
No country, no matter how powerful, could withstand an onslaught by a pack of wolves, especially when everyone had top-tier military powers backing them up.
"What if I ask Lorraine Tower for a solution?"
Feng Yuan suggested, knowing that Dou Yanlan had some ideas as well, but now wasn’t the time for experimenting. Agunas nodded and said,
"What if we brought it here for a face-to-face talk?"
