Chapter 663: Chapter 664: Mutation_1

"What is that?"

Without knowing when, pitch-black holes emerged from the surrounding walls, and golden metallic spheres rolled out from them. Feng Yuan swept his Divine Sense over them, then glanced at the White Wolf Deity.

With a fierce stomp of its paw, an ice ring rapidly spread out from under the White Wolf Deity’s paw, instantly freezing the metal spheres in place. Feng Yuan waved his staff, and vines rapidly grew from the huge holes in the ground, charging towards the openings from which the metallic spheres had fallen. Watching the continually dividing vines block the holes, Guo Huai said with a strange expression,

"Does this mean as long as I keep you from making a move, no matter how strong your attack power, it’s fine?"

"How could it be? It’s just to reduce some trouble," Feng Yuan replied.

Feng Yuan glanced at the Illusory Sound Parrot, Xiao Ji, which had turned into a large black bird and landed on the ground. Although the hall where the Nien Wheel was located wasn’t small, it wasn’t very high either; Xiao Ji couldn’t fly in this place.

Just when everyone thought everything was fine, Feng Yuan looked around and said,

"Is it time for the main course?"

No sooner had he spoken than the pristine white walls began to change color. Watching the walls and floor turn bright red with yellow energy flowing along their edges, Guo Huai felt like he could hear an ear-piercing warning sound, even though there was none.

The vines blocking the holes seemed to be pushed by some tremendous force, shaking continuously. Watching the giant trembling vines, Guo Huai said somewhat speechlessly,

"Is this really okay?"

"Reducing the threat, otherwise..."

Before Feng Yuan could finish his sentence, the White Wolf Deity suddenly leaped, and a fiery red laser beam accurately struck where the White Wolf Deity had just been standing. The laser beam didn’t disappear upon hitting the ground but instead refracted in all directions like it had struck a special mirror, filling the entire hall with numerous blinding red beams in an instant.

Seeing this, Guo Huai’s complexion drastically changed. Feng Yuan sneered and raised his hand, and the dark silhouette of a sickle appeared behind him. Black mist rapidly spread throughout the hall, significantly weakening and eventually swallowing the continuously refracting red beams within the fog.

Before Feng Yuan had the chance to command the vines to block the holes emitting laser beams, after several shots, the color of the surrounding walls and floor became an incomparably bright red.

The White Wolf Deity howled loudly and powerfully leaped onto a floating ice block. Feng Yuan shouted to Xiao Ji,

"Change back to your original form!"

Although Xiao Ji was somewhat puzzled about why Feng Yuan would say that, it instinctively changed back to its original form. Feng Yuan scooped up Xiao Ji and held it in his arms as he flew into the air, waving his staff, and a series of emerald green barriers rose around him.

"What’s going on?"

Adventurers inside the Emerald Ruins were startled by the sudden intense shaking. They abandoned their treasure hunting and rushed towards the entrance. Even the once incredibly solid rock walls began to crack under the tremors, with soil falling from the fissures. As the shaking intensified, the adventurers grew more frantic, using various methods to run towards the entrance in fear of being buried there.

The terrifying tremors could even be felt in the nearby Stone Giant City. Xiao An, who was learning the local language at the Lord’s Mansion, curiously asked the young man before him,

"Do these kinds of tremors happen often here?"

The young man shook his head, equally baffled by the events. In his memory, such phenomena, known as earthquakes, didn’t usually occur in their area, at least not according to the records.

As for whether they were caused by a battle? They had not felt the spread of power that would indicate a fight. Looking out at the pouring rain, Xiao An said with some concern,

"I wonder if we can transport everything in time..."

Feng Yuan had previously told everyone they had only two days, which meant they were set to return to the Divine Land Region tomorrow. As for staying behind? Not only would that go against their prior agreement, but even if Feng Yuan and his companions didn’t mind, the Delong Tower would definitely take them away. Without the high-speed corridor, they had no way to quickly return to the Divine Land Region.

"Could it be something the Sea God has done?"

The young man speculated with some doubt. After pondering, Xiao An replied, not very certain,

"It shouldn’t be, at least the Sea God has no reason to do so. I can’t believe anyone would attack them?"

"Ugh, resorting to bombs without a word, how annoying."

With a wave of his staff, a gust of breeze blew the smoke into the huge pit on the ground, where the vines shattered in the explosion now dissipated as specks of green light in the air.

"What on earth happened..."

Although hiding behind the White Wolf Deity spared them from the blast’s effects, the terrifying explosion still left everyone stunned. Guo Huai murmured to himself, overheard by Feng Yuan who glanced at the broken ground and said,

"It seems they switched tactics after realizing the lasers were ineffective, but..."

Now, the ground was littered with tiny shards of transparent crystal. The original lighting was completely destroyed, leaving only the glow of the Nien Wheel to barely illuminate the hall. The flow of energy that once streamed across the ground and walls was gone, and without the outer layer of crystals, the walls revealed their pockmarked dark grey metal.

Looking at the wrecked hall, Mo Li sighed, and with a weird look, Guo Huai sized up Feng Yuan and said,

"Do you make a habit of dismantling a ruin every time you visit one?"

"What?"

"As I recall, isn’t this the second ruin you’ve dismantled?"

Although he hadn’t experienced the Emerald Ruins himself, he was, after all, Feng Yuan’s classmate now and could get the gist of the events from Qi Chen—at least he vaguely knew about Feng Yuan pulling Qi Chen and the others into taking apart the Emerald Ruins.

It was a pity the research-worthy Emerald Ruins had been destroyed, but there was no other choice at the time: if they hadn’t dismantled the Emerald Ruins, they wouldn’t have been able to resolve the crisis threatening the safety of Maomu City. Of course, he was unaware of the chaos caused by the fake World Clock later on.

"Don’t make it sound like I do it on purpose."

"Really? Why do I remember someone mentioning dismantling ruins before even entering one?"

Liu Wenli looked at Feng Yuan inexplicably, scratching his head without refuting as Delong Tower, surrounded by swirling water, said,

"Be careful, something seems to be coming."

The walls contracted, revealing a massive passage as the sound of metal treading heavily on the ground echoed. Feng Yuan squinted toward the passage and said,

"Their trump card, perhaps?"

"Uncertain."

Delong Tower spoke first, attacking before waiting for the opponent to make a move. Streams of water cannoned towards the dark passage. The metallic noise continued unabated, leaving Feng Yuan somewhat astonished as he glanced at Delong Tower and said,

"No effect?"

Delong Tower stared at the passage with an unfathomable expression, and soon, a golden light appeared at the passage entrance. Several metal rings floated out, each harboring a bizarre Energy Body—some resembling the sun, some dark clouds, and others like continuously dispersing snowflakes.

"Is this the power of the Nien Wheel?"

Feng Yuan glanced over the rings and understood the situation, but remembering the power of the Nien Wheel, he said somewhat vexedly,

"This is troublesome, I’m not sure how to explain later..."

A golden beam shot toward Feng Yuan, who dodged the light and, before he could counterattack, Delong Tower had already made its move. A roar from the Deep Sea rose within the ears of everyone in the ruins, whether trapped underground or hastily tidying their stalls up above, they all heard the rage that seemed to come from the Deep Sea.

A metal beast burst out of the passage, with several metal rings floating around it. The golden orbs within the rings quickly became dazzling, shooting out several beams of golden light at Delong Tower, but the water spheres revolving around Delong Tower refracted them away. Due to the absence of the crystal-covered rock surface and walls, the refracted beams did not scatter and reflect throughout the hall as the lasers had before.

Seeing this, the metal beast charged at Delong Tower. Its massive size and force shattered the water spheres, but the White Wolf Deity raised its left paw then gently set it down, unleashing a violent ice storm that blocked the metal beast.

The glowing patterns on Delong Tower’s body became even brighter as the metal beast tried frantically to break through the ice storm’s defenses.
