Chapter 584: 485 Chapter The Leisure Before the Great War_1

"Aren’t you leaving yet?"

Wei Dingwu, looking at Feng Yuan and the others with an unfriendly expression, cracked a slight smile and Feng Yuan lifted Xiao Ji to his face, saying,

"We wanted to see if there’s anything we could help with, but if you’re planning to evacuate, why not arrange for them to leave ahead of time?"

Although Feng Yuan had some guesses, he was still curious as he looked towards Wei Dingwu, who glanced at Feng Yuan and said,

"I don’t know, but you’d better hurry up and leave. Take this food with you for now."

As he spoke, a soldier placed a large bag of food in front of Wei Dingwu, and Mo Li stared at Wei Dingwu, asking,

"Aren’t we friends?"

"If it wasn’t because you’re my friends, I couldn’t care less about you. Anyway, hurry up and leave, or it’ll be too late, unless you want to leave with us!"

As they watched Wei Dingwu walk away, Mo Li heaved a sigh and said,

"So friendship is that straightforward, huh..."

"Not necessarily, it’s all about fate."

"Fate?"

Mo Li looked puzzled at Liu Wenli beside her, who smiled faintly and said,

"Right, like me, I barely know her, but because she and I both use heavy swords, are protected by the same Divine Lord, I wanted to save her."

"I think you’re just messing around because you’re full and bored."

Feng Yuan said irritably, while the spectral shadow of Agunas swung its tail and commented,

"I think you’re the last one who should be saying that."

"Tch! I help based on my mood, okay? If I’m in a good mood, I might lend a hand."

Liu Wenli said, laughing,

"Who doesn’t do that? We’re not close relatives. Who would give their all for an acquaintance they’ve only met a few times?"

Laughing, Feng Yuan didn’t argue; Guo Huai glanced at Feng Yuan and said,

"Shouldn’t you be excited to see what’s in that bag of food right now?"

"Not interested. It’s just staple foods like rice anyway, nothing delicious can be made from it."

Feng Yuan replied with no interest, looking at the bag of food. At this time, he didn’t believe Wei Dingwu could have brought much food. Nearly everyone from Nanyu had gathered here; without a solution, it wouldn’t take many days before they wouldn’t even need to fight – Nanyu would crumble from within due to food issues.

"Speaking of which, what’s their purpose in gathering everyone here?"

Mo Li was puzzled, just like Feng Yuan had asked before. Ordinary civilians could have been arranged to move to coastal cities; although Nanyu City wasn’t particularly far from the sea, it was still a day or two’s journey away.

"Not sure, but it’s very likely they want it to make a move. If so, it won’t be able to protect them anymore..."

Feng Yuan said, not quite understanding. In his view, such actions seemed unnecessary and even troublesome. Mo Li and the others looked at Feng Yuan curiously, but he just smiled mysteriously without explaining. Yao Yin glanced at Feng Yuan and said irritably,

"Tch! Always playing mysterious."

"Anyway, if I’m right, the commotion won’t be small. If I’m wrong, then there’s no need to say it, is there~"

"You have a bad taste."

Yao Yin didn’t bother with Feng Yuan’s explanation, and Liu Wenli, looking at Amon floating in the lake, said,

"If what you’re saying is true, then the battle will come soon. Do you think they will act at night?"

"That I’m not sure of. While it’s unlikely, we can’t guarantee that the allied forces won’t launch a surprise attack at night."

"I’m going to rest."

After saying this, Liu Wenli turned and left. Guo Huai scratched his head, puzzled, and asked,

"What’s wrong?"

"She’s worried the enemy might launch a night raid. She’s resting now, probably because she plans to handle the fight tonight."

"Not on watch?"

Guo Huai looked at Feng Yuan in surprise, gazing at the blue sky, Feng Yuan said helplessly,

"Where is there a need to be on watch? Those guys would hardly choose this place for an attack. With such commotion, if you still can’t wake up then it would only mean you shouldn’t have joined the battle in the first place, as forcefully waking you would probably reduce your reaction speed quite a bit."

"So we..."

"Do as you please, rest if you wish. I for one can’t be bothered to adjust for jet lag."

Feng Yuan stretched and yawned with Xiao Ji perched on the railing, when the Illusory Sound Parrot returned clutching a wild rabbit, proudly squawking before him. Feng Yuan petted the parrot’s head and offered a few words of praise before setting the rabbit aside. Xiao Ji looked at the Illusory Sound Parrot with disdain; had there been more game around, it would have already used "Coming of the Future" to go hunting.

With game scarce, Xiao Ji, being huge, couldn’t possibly hunt. It was only the Illusory Sound Parrot, with its smaller size, who could manage to catch things like wild rabbits in the woods, and it even brought back a bamboo rat once, which puzzled Feng Yuan immensely since the terrain around them didn’t feature any bamboo groves. He had no idea where the parrot could have captured the bamboo rat.

"Well then, if you want to eat, why don’t you go catch one yourself?"

Seeing Amon with a bear paw in his mouth and another lifting a jar of honey to his eyes, looking greedily, Feng Yuan spoke irritably. Seeing his gambit fail, Amon put back the honey jar, looking downcast with drooping ears. The Illusory Sound Parrot glared at Amon discontentedly; after all, it had worked hard to hunt down that prey.

Although Xiao Ji was eyeing the roasted wild rabbit some, it wouldn’t make a move to snatch the Illusory Sound Parrot’s food. After a while, realizing Feng Yuan wasn’t paying him any attention, Amon trudged back to the cabin with the honey jar. That’s when Feng Yuan spoke,

"Be a bit quieter when you go back to your room."

Amon looked back at Feng Yuan, puzzled as to why he would say that. As Feng Yuan brushed the rabbit with sauce, he spoke,

"She should be resting now."

"Of course, she’s not sick. She’s getting ready for the fight tonight. Those people might attack in the next couple of days. She’s worried if no one stands guard at night, it would be troubling if the enemy attacks then."

Amon didn’t go back to the cabin having heard Feng Yuan’s explanation but sat on the steps, watching Feng Yuan roast the rabbit. As he watched, his saliva began to drip, especially when Feng Yuan pulled out another jar of honey. Amon couldn’t resist and turned away from Feng Yuan.

"You sure are taking it easy."

Upon seeing Feng Yuan patiently roasting the rabbit, Yao Yin teased him after having circled the area with Mo Ling. Feng Yuan glanced at Yao Yin and said,

"Don’t you do the same? Still have the leisure to wander around, aren’t you afraid of encountering danger?"

"If a large army were to come, do you really think you wouldn’t lift a finger? I can protect her just fine."

Yao Yin said proudly and then added with a bit of regret,

"Such a shame for this beautiful garden."

"What do you mean?"

"It’s not just here by Nan Zhu Lake that has buildings; the nearby woods have quite a few interesting houses too. It’s just too bad, after the war, who knows how much will remain."

Mo Ling seemed to remember something and looked downcast. Feng Yuan brushed the rabbit with another round of sauce and said,

"So what? At least we have seen it all. What does the future have to do with us? It’s not likely we’ll have the chance to come here again anyway."

"Even if there were time, wouldn’t it be better to go somewhere else?"

"Will there even be time for traveling again?"

Mo Ling muttered to herself, lost in thought. Feng Yuan, without lifting his head, said,

"If one really wanted to, there should still be a little time to spare..."

"What’s with that uncertain tone? Trying to scare me for fun?"

"Think whatever you like."

"Alright then, Sister Yao Yin, let’s go inside and rest for a bit."

Mo Ling said with a smile, pulling Yao Yin back toward the cabin. Just then, Amon emerged from nowhere, holding a fish in his bear paw. Looking at it, Feng Yuan said resignedly,

"You rascal, alright, just leave it there for now."

Xiao Ji pulled unhappily at Feng Yuan’s sleeve, looking at him with a pitiful face. Petting Xiao Ji’s head, Feng Yuan said with a chuckle,

"If you’re hungry, you could catch some fish yourself, you know. There should be plenty of fish in Nan Zhu Lake still."

Feng Yuan wasn’t just talking nonsense, because Nan Zhu Lake was a famous attraction in Nanyu City. The refugees encamped there hadn’t thought to catch the fish in the lake at the first sign of trouble, or perhaps unless things were truly desperate, they wouldn’t consider going after those fish. The reason Amon could fish without being reprimanded is that in the past few days, Amon and Feng Yuan had been fending off those sneaky enemies time and again.
