Chapter 579: Chapter 580: Decision_1
"Strange? Why are there so few people?"
In the inn, Mo Ling asked in a low voice with some confusion, although she wondered whether it was because the food at this inn was subpar, she still wouldn’t say such things in front of others.
Feng Yuan glanced at Mo Li and said,
"I don’t know, maybe the others have already eaten."
"Is that so?"
Xiao Ji’s gaze flickered as it leaned closer to Feng Yuan, seemingly trying to shield him behind itself. Feng Yuan patted Xiao Ji’s head and said,
"Don’t worry~"
"It seems time is running out~"
As he spoke, Feng Yuan hastened his eating pace. Mo Ling, perhaps because she wasn’t very hungry, didn’t eat quickly. After a while, Feng Yuan stood up and said,
"I’m finished eating, I’ll go out for a walk. If there’s anything... let it find me."
With a wave of his hand, a little messenger bird landed on the table. Seeing Feng Yuan rush out, Liu Wenli, after some thought, put down her chopsticks and said,
"Excuse me, I’ll be back in a moment."
Seeing Liu Wenli bow slightly and leave, Yao Yin put down her chopsticks, looked at Mo Ling and said to Mo Li,
"I forgot something. Wait here for me."
"Yao Yin sister?"
Seeing Yao Yin hurriedly leave, Mo Ling was somewhat puzzled. Looking at Mo Li, she asked with a hint of grievance,
"Did I do something wrong?"
Mo Li patted Mo Ling’s head and comforted her with a smile,
"Nothing’s wrong, they just have some matters to attend to. Try this."
Guo Huai guessed what was happening, but seeing Mo Ling and Mo Li enjoying their rare leisure time, he silently kept eating, pretending to be unaware of anything.
"Why have you come too?"
Feng Yuan glanced at Liu Wenli with surprise and said, brandishing his Greatsword. Liu Wenli chuckled and replied,
"Is that not okay? Her stubbornness... makes me feel a bit nostalgic~"
"Tsk!"
"How long do you plan to hold them back?"
Yao Yin tossed a Yellow Talisman, and a bright yellow Barrier enveloped the entirety of Mingyue City. The soldiers on the city walls were startled, but when they realized the Barrier was purely for protection, they cast grateful looks toward Yao Yin and quickly started evacuating the crowd through the east gate. Yao Yin, glancing at the Black Wolf God Greatsword in the sky and the black tide of destruction, said with a smile,
"That sword has truly brought misfortune into your hands."
Clenching his Sickle tightly, Feng Yuan said irritably,
"What do you mean by misfortune? The ability to shatter the blade is originally a technique the Wolf God Giant Sword could use."
Xiao Ji and Little Green Snake had transformed into the appearance of the Coming of the Future standing beside Feng Yuan. Sensing the arrival of the enemy, Feng Yuan’s lips curled slightly as he said,
"Let’s try if we can win them a pleasant dinner time~"
Purple lightning streaked across the sky, the clouds gradually obscured the starry sky, and the earth trembled amidst the roar. The soldiers atop the walls of Mingyu City watched steadfastly towards the darkness devouring the distance.
"Why haven’t they returned yet?"
After finishing dinner and realizing that Feng Yuan and the others had not returned, Mo Ling grew a bit worried. Mo Li smiled and said,
"Had enough? Want to rest a bit more?"
"No need! Are you hiding something from me!"
Mo Ling said discontentedly to Mo Li, to which Hua Yiyou replied with a light smile,
"Can’t you sense it?"
"Sense what?"
Mo Ling was a bit puzzled. Guo Huai opened his mouth as if to speak but eventually gave up. Mo Li looked at Mo Ling and sighed,
"Let’s go, we shouldn’t keep them waiting."
Saying that, Mo Li’s finger gently stroked the little messenger bird that had curled up into a ball of fur and fallen asleep on the table. Startled awake, the bird raised its head, looked around, glanced at Mo Li, tweeted sharply, and quickly flew out of the inn.
As soon as they reached the outside of the gate, Mo Ling realized something was wrong. Although the city itself had not yet come under attack, the constant thunder ripping through the sky was a clear testament to the fierce battle happening in the distance. Mo Ling anxiously said,
"They haven’t gone to confront those mountain bandits, have they?"
Hua Yiyou gave a slight smile and, instead of explaining, looked toward Mo Li. It was best to let Mo Li explain the situation himself.
"Are you finally done eating?"
Seeing the homing bird rush over, Feng Yuan smiled and tossed it a red fruit. He then turned to look at the endless stream of mountain bandits. A black shadow wielding a Sickle moved swiftly among the bandits, attacking them. A black stele floated beside Feng Yuan, with fierce specters occasionally bursting out from it to assault the bandits.
Liu Wenli blocked and killed the fish that slipped through the net, while surprisingly glancing at Feng Yuan and Yao Yin. She had suspected early on that Feng Yuan was terrifyingly powerful, but she hadn’t expected Yao Yin to be so formidable as well. Feng Yuan waved his staff, and vines surged towards the mountain bandits. Seizing the opportunity, Feng Yuan shouted to Liu Wenli,
"Go and inform the soldiers, we’re preparing to evacuate!"
"Do you think, will they hate us?"
As Yao Yin spoke, she once again swung several Yellow Talismans. Thunder dragons descended brutally Devouring the mountain bandits. Feng Yuan laughed and said,
"Hate or not, what does it matter? I never thought to live for them."
"That’s true~"
Yao Yin said with a lovely smile; she could sense that Feng Yuan wasn’t lying. He had never intended to protect Mingyu City; defending it for so long was merely to allow Mo Ling to enjoy a nice dinner. After a while, Liu Wenli ran back and said,
"I’ve informed them, let’s go."
"Xiao Ji! Little Green Snake! Let’s go!"
Feng Yuan called out loudly, striking the ground with his staff, and black roses spread in all directions. Seeing the black roses, the mountain bandits seemed to have encountered something horrifying and froze in place. Yao Yin, a bit puzzled, asked,
"What did you do?"
"Nagna’s Death Rose Garden, what do you think~"
"Such bad taste, you’re not planning to scare them to death, are you?"
Yao Yin said speechlessly. Having just been dealt with by Nagna, and now seeing Nagna’s signature move, she was worried that they might actually be frightened to death. Liu Wenli thought for a moment and asked,
"Are you planning to scare them off?"
"Impossible, do you think they would retreat just because of this?"
After reflecting for a moment, Liu Wenli said helplessly,
"It seems, indeed, they won’t."
"Let’s just head straight for the East Gate, we won’t enter the city."
Glancing back at Mingyu City, which was within an arm’s reach, Feng Yuan spoke. Behind the tightly shut city gate, Feng Yuan could sense a massive accumulation of weighty materials. But were those things truly useful? Feng Yuan had little hope for that; if the enemy had already started their siege, the city walls wouldn’t hold them back.
"I’m sorry."
As soon as Feng Yuan and the others met with Mo Li, Mo Ling promptly apologized. She wasn’t a fool; Feng Yuan had all along shown no intention of saving Nanyu. Hence, his actions earlier were likely because she hadn’t finished her dinner. Thinking back to Feng Yuan’s urging and the unusual streets, Mo Ling felt she should have realized it sooner.
It was only because it was her first time traveling with Mo Li through other nations’ cities that Mo Ling had let down her guard. Feng Yuan laughed and looked towards Mo Li, saying,
"Can we go now?"
"Yes, are you all... are you all okay?"
Mo Li examined Feng Yuan and the two women carefully, somewhat concerned, and then stood beside Mo Ling. Yao Yin smiled and patted Mo Ling’s head, saying,
"Don’t worry, we’re not so foolish. If there really was danger, we wouldn’t stupidly stand our ground. Let’s go~"
Following the refugees, Feng Yuan and the others set off on the road to Nanyu City. Feng Yuan said with some confusion,
"We don’t need to enter Nanyu City; we can easily bypass it."
Mo Li glanced at Liu Wenli and earnestly asked Feng Yuan,
"If we want to rescue Wei Dingwu, what are the chances of success? What would be the consequences of failure?"
Mo Li had no choice but to ask Feng Yuan, as they had never been able to grasp his combat strength and had no idea what he was truly capable of. Feng Yuan thought for a moment and said, under Liu Wenli’s expectant gaze,
"Failure is not an option, but rescuing her will be troublesome. First, we’d have to get to the Royal Court of Nanyu and also assist in their evacuation. Otherwise, just taking her away wouldn’t be very meaningful."
"It’s just that it would be very troublesome, and it would waste a lot of time. As for danger, there isn’t any, after all, you understand my strength~"
"The decision is yours to make."
Seeing Feng Yuan look toward her, Mo Li pondered and did not immediately respond.
