Chapter 575: Chapter 576: Endless Mountain Bandits_1
"What difference does eligibility make?"
Feng Yuan glanced at the Agunas phantom and said calmly. At that moment, a sound of metal clashing came from outside, but Feng Yuan, without lifting his head, continued eating his breakfast while speaking.
"Don’t mind it, it’s probably just some mountain bandits passing by."
"Mountain bandits?!"
Hearing Feng Yuan’s words, Guo Huai hurriedly ran outside, only to see the destructive torrent that had previously encircled the camp now rushing into the nearby woods. A golden barrier stood erect, resisting the relentless onslaught of the destruction torrent.
"Is everything all right?"
Guo Huai looked back at Feng Yuan, who was sitting in the room, with some concern.
"What could be the problem? Breaking through the seal of the Wolf God Greatsword is not so easy."
"But, it seems like they have already found a way to counter those fragments."
Seeing the barrier slowly moving towards the camp, Guo Huai couldn’t help but worry. Just then, the Black Wolf God Greatsword floating above the camp suddenly swung toward the barrier, darkening the sky, and its black shadow continuously bombarded the barrier. Within a moment, the barrier was shattered, and hearing the screams, Guo Huai returned with a surprised look on his face, to which Feng Yuan said after a glance,
"Hurry up and finish your breakfast; we’re setting off soon."
"Are we going into the village? Won’t we be mistaken for bad guys?"
Hearing Feng Yuan mention entering the village ahead for repairs, Guo Huai asked with some worry. Along the way, they had already encountered numerous rampant mountain bandits. If it wasn’t for the knowledge that it was the concerted effort of several countries, they would have found it hard to believe that those not-so-weak bandits could swarm over the mountains and plains like locusts.
Mo Li adjusted her clothing and said,
"No, those bandits wouldn’t dress up like traveling wanderers, and besides, we’re running low on supplies and need to replenish in the village."
"During the early and middle periods of the Dynasty Era, the influence of traveling wanderers was tremendous. Although there was no specific organization, anyone who dared to misuse the name of wanderers for evil deeds would attract the wrath of all the travelers in the Divine Land Region."
"Why are you looking at me like that? Pretending to be a Divine Envoy from the Temple is even more suicidal, okay? Travelers are relatively scattered, but Divine Envoys communicate quite often. Impersonating a Divine Envoy and tarnishing the Temple’s reputation? One might as well face a group of Legendary Spirit Beasts, and with bad luck, even confront Divine Beasts—"
Feng Yuan noticed Guo Huai looking at him with disdain and said.
As they approached the small village, the children playing there eyed Feng Yuan and his party warily. Seeing the toys in the children’s hands, Feng Yuan sighed. Hua Yiyou opened his eyes slightly, surprised, while Mo Li glanced at Mo Ling and, finding that she hadn’t noticed, breathed a sigh of relief.
Liu Wenli watched all of this with a calm demeanor, as if used to it, and Yao Yin appeared uninterested, too lazy to even speak if she guessed something.
It seemed that the small village was completely unaffected by the ravages of the mountain bandits, continuing its serene existence following its usual rhythm of life. Mo Li and the others arrived at noon, when the women working in the fields were carrying their farm tools and chatting with one another as they returned to the village. Seeing Feng Yuan and his party, their facial expressions changed, and they whispered to each other with heads lowered.
Feng Yuan thought for a moment and said,
"Let’s wait outside the village. At times like this, it’s better not to crowd the village and make people anxious."
Seeing the wary glances from the women and elders, Guo Huai felt somewhat uncomfortable and readily agreed with Feng Yuan’s suggestion. Liu Wenli glanced at Feng Yuan but didn’t say anything. Hua Yiyou pondered for a moment then said,
"I’ll go with them to purchase some supplies; you all wait outside the village for us."
"Okay."
Mo Li nodded in agreement after looking at Mo Ling. Observing the peaceful tranquility of the village, Hua Yiyou sighed and moved to converse with the villagers while leading the guards.
"Such a bother..."
Feng Yuan looked at the forest with some annoyance, while Liu Wenli gripped her greatsword and asked,
"Did you not have a premonition about this?"
"You all wait here for us, don’t wander off!"
Feng Yuan didn’t respond to Liu Wenli, but holding the Black Wolf God Greatsword, he instructed Mo Li and the others before dashing into the forest with Xiao Ji.
Mo Li sighed and said to Mo Ling,
"We’ll just wait here."
"Why! We could help too, couldn’t we?"
Mo Ling said a bit resentfully. Remembering something, she grabbed Yao Yin’s arm, shook it, and pleaded playfully.
"Yao Sister~ What do you think?"
"Don’t bother about that guy, there shouldn’t be anything in this world that could pose a danger to him."
Yao Yin wasn’t very interested. She knew that Feng Yuan’s strength meant that no matter how many mountain bandits there were, they wouldn’t really pose a threat to him. Just like that time when he simply performed a Nether Cross and took people away, Yao Yin had no idea how many more trump cards Feng Yuan had hidden.
Resting under the big tree outside the village, Yao Yin took out some cakes for Mo Ling to eat. While eating the cakes, Mo Ling said with a guilty conscience,
"Isn’t what we’re doing somewhat wrong? He must be dealing with those mountain bandits, yet we’re here..."
"He won’t care, at most he’ll just complain a little when he comes back."
Yao Yin said nonchalantly, and Mo Li laughed without retorting. Suddenly, Yao Yin’s expression changed and she said,
"It seems the price of hiding behind and sneaking treats has come."
"What?!"
Mo Li looked at Yao Yin in surprise. With a swipe of her hand, a Yellow Talisman appeared in Yao Yin’s hand. Upon seeing this, Mo Li quickly grabbed her spear and stood up, while Zi Mo made a snorting noise as a sign of vigilance, observing the surroundings.
"Ah, you little ones."
Yao Yin glanced at the middle-aged man who appeared at the edge of the forest with a halberd and ignored him. The middle-aged man just scanned Mo Li and the others with a smile and said,
"The main force isn’t here? It looks like you’ve fallen into a trap."
As the middle-aged man said this, he waved his halberd to repel a mountain bandit and spoke,
"Step back a bit, I can’t guarantee your safety, you know~"
"Who needs your protection anyway!"
Mo Ling muttered discontentedly, while Yao Yin and Mo Li, while shielding Mo Ling, retreated toward the edge of the village and said,
"At least he’s here to help."
Yao Yin vigilantly watched the mountain bandits that kept appearing. Although the middle-aged man seemed lax, none of the bandits could break through the barrier he and the White Ape were creating.
"There’s a third group coming!"
Yao Yin glanced in another direction, threw the Yellow Talisman into the air, and a purple thunderbolt tore through the sky, striking the ground fiercely. The middle-aged man took a surprised glance at Yao Yin and said,
"Yo~ The young lady’s quite capable~"
"Leave that side to me! Just keep that area secure!"
Yao Yin shouted to the middle-aged man, who nodded and focused his gaze. More and more mountain bandits appeared, and even he had to be cautious.
"Back off!"
Feng Yuan shouted displeasingly at the militiamen wielding weapons. Upon hearing Feng Yuan’s words, they only stepped back slightly and did not completely hide away; whenever a bandit was alone, they would swarm over to deal with him.
"That’s their choice, why get angry about it?"
After slicing down a mountain bandit with his sword, Liu Wenli said calmly. Feng Yuan glanced at the militiamen in irritation and thrust the Black Wolf God Greatsword into the ground. He waved the reformed blade, now made of black energy, and the destructive floods of darkness bombarded the surrounding bandits with his offensive steps.
Liu Wenli smiled as she looked over at Feng Yuan who tried to prevent the bandits from running towards the militiamen and stared fiercely at the bandits, accelerating the speed of her swings with her greatsword.
"I don’t understand where they keep finding so many death warriors."
Liu Wenli murmured softly, feeling a great pressure from the continually emerging bandits. Feng Yuan threw his Black Wolf God Greatsword into the air and, pulling out an ancient lantern, said angrily,
"You’ve really made me angry now!"
Before Feng Yuan could take action, a terrifying aura came from afar, causing the bandits’ faces to change as they quickly retreated. Sensing that aura, Feng Yuan said in surprise,
"They’re really capable, to have dragged it into this."
"Is it over?"
Seeing the bandits retreat, Yao Yin, holding a Yellow Talisman, was somewhat surprised. The middle-aged man’s gaze sharpened. He didn’t think the bandits would retreat for no reason. Wanting to pursue them, but glancing at Mo Li and the others, he sighed, planted his halberd, and rested his hands on its long shaft.
