Chapter 554: Chapter 555 Celebration_1
"Bastard!"
Although Feng Yuan did his best to dodge, the dense ’Arrow Rain’ still made it difficult for him to avoid being hit, and the several arrows that struck him caused Feng Yuan to roar angrily as he fiercely stabbed his ’Greatsword’ into the ground.
Rows of pitch-black ice pillars erupted from the earth, and with a raise of his hand, Feng Yuan rapidly condensed a multitude of ice spikes in the air, which flew in all directions. The soldiers who rushed over upon hearing the commotion were dumbfounded by this display of power—they had not expected that a man who seemed to just freeload at the general’s mansion could possess such terrifying strength.
The ’Arrow Rain’ became sparse, but Feng Yuan still seemed unsatisfied. Furrowing his brows, he pulled out the ’Black Wolf God Greatsword’ and pointed it towards the sky, muttering something under his breath.
The next moment, all of Yongning seemed to darken; though there wasn’t a cloud in the sky, the sunlight appeared to be gradually blocked by some invisible force. A bone-chilling wind blew past, causing the soldiers to shudder. As the surroundings grew dimmer, the blade of Feng Yuan’s ’Greatsword’ slowly descended in Feng Yuan’s grasp.
Howls like those of malevolent spirits rose up; to the shock of all present, countless ghosts emerged from the ground. They bypassed the Yongning soldiers and sought out the ambushers, draining them of their vitality just like the tales of ghosts in folklore.
The frightened ’City Defense Army’ soldiers began to quietly retreat, terrified that the man who seemed like a demon might suddenly lash out at them.
"Sorry, it was An’s lack of preparation."
’Mo Li’ came from somewhere and apologized to Feng Yuan. Feng Yuan glanced at ’Mo Li’ with his blood-red eyes, then coldly turned away before Mo Li could get too frightened and said,
"It seems your control over Yongning isn’t all that great... so many rats were able to sneak in."
Packing away the ’Black Wolf God Greatsword,’ Feng Yuan slowly walked back to the inn. He had just been bored and wanted to take a walk but lost the mood for strolling after this incident.
A gust of cold wind blew, and everyone shivered again. As Feng Yuan sheathed the ’Black Wolf God Greatsword,’ the sunlight slowly returned to Yongning. After a glance at the corpses scattered around, ’Mo Li’ sternly instructed the others to take care of the aftermath and then turned to return to the general’s house.
"This fish is surprisingly good—hey, don’t rush off to work while out having fun~"
While happily munching on the special fried small crisp fish, Feng Yuan saw a small messenger bird land on Mo Li’s shoulder, looking exhausted. He began to speak, and though Mo Li seemed helpless, after feeding the bird a fruit and taking the letter, Mo Li checked it with some confusion. Soon, his expression changed to one of shock as he turned to look at Feng Yuan.
"Something about Yongning?"
Feng Yuan, still holding a piece of the fried small crisp fish, teased ’Xiao Ji’ by waving it in front of the creature, then tossed the fish into his mouth. Xiao Ji, angry at being teased by Feng Yuan again, hopped out of Feng Yuan’s embrace and chirped at the phantom of Agunas, complaining about Feng Yuan’s misdeed, then puffed its tiny tail as if to show its anger at Feng Yuan.
"How did you know?"
Mo Li looked at Feng Yuan, amazed. His stand-in had written the situation down and arranged for the messenger bird to rush over not long after the incident occurred, but Feng Yuan had been with them shopping the entire time and had never left. Mo Li also hadn’t seen any foreign messenger birds delivering news to Feng Yuan.
As Feng Yuan apologized to Xiao Ji, he said,
"You forgot? I’m not like you. It would be strange if I didn’t know about the situation over there."
After a moment’s thought, Mo Li understood the reason. Although Wei Dingwu, who was selecting jewelry with Mo Ling and Yao Yin up ahead, might not hear their conversation, to be safe, Mo Li decided to talk about it later that night when they returned home.
Since the incident had already happened and Feng Yuan had successfully taken control, there was no need for Mo Li to handle anything. Hua Yiyou frowned slightly in confusion after reading the letter passed by Mo Li; he didn’t quite understand why those people would suddenly make a move against Feng Yuan.
"Wolf ears?"
Taking the hat Mo Ling handed to him, Feng Yuan looked at the wolf ears on the hat with some surprise. Unclear about why this era would have such hats, he put it on and asked Yao Yin and the others in confusion,
"What are you buying this for?"
"There’s a blessing ceremony tomorrow, and everyone will wear some accessories related to the Divine Lord. Since you get along with that big white dog so well, isn’t it nice to wear a pair of dog ears?"
"Dog ears?"
Feng Yuan took off the hat and examined it carefully, still unable to figure out if they were dog or wolf ears. Casually placing the hat back on his head, he glanced at Mo Li and noticed a unique horn on Mo Li’s hat. Looking at Zi Mo following behind Mo Li, Feng Yuan turned to Yao Yin and said,
"At least buy hats that look somewhat similar. One has a conical horn, the other a dagger-shaped horn—there’s too much difference, isn’t there?"
Mo Ling said somewhat embarrassedly,
"It seems all the single-horned hats are like this. We couldn’t find one like Zi Mo’s."
"Can’t you make one yourself?"
"Make it ourselves?"
The three were somewhat surprised as they glanced at Feng Yuan. Wei Ding Wu crossed his arms and stared at Feng Yuan, asking
"How are we supposed to make it? We don’t know how to sew. Could it be..."
"What if I do? Got a problem with that?"
Yao Yin suddenly revealed a mischievous smile that made Feng Yuan’s hair stand on end.
"Well then, we’ll count on you~"
"Hey, hey, hey! You don’t expect me to do it all by myself, do you?"
Seeing the materials Yao Yin handed over, Feng Yuan instantly understood that she had been plotting this all along. Mo Ling said with a giggly smile,
"You did promise us~"
"Acting cute won’t work on me; I’m not buying it. I never agreed to anything."
Feng Yuan firmly refused. He was no fool; the blessing ceremony was tomorrow, and if he had to do it all by himself, he probably wouldn’t be able to sleep at all tonight.
"But we had an agreement..."
Mo Ling pouted and looked at Feng Yuan with a wronged expression. Feng Yuan crossed his arms and said calmly,
"Tell your brother about it. I’m not doing it."
Seeing Feng Yuan’s resolute demeanor, Mo Ling gently patted her skirt and suggested,
"Shall we do it together then?"
"Doing our own parts is fine, but I don’t want to end up doing everything myself."
"Fine."
Mo Ling replied somewhat displeased. Yao Yin glanced at Feng Yuan, sighed, and looked pityingly at Mo Ling. Guo Huai was puzzled by Mo Ling’s behavior today, but after some thought, he decided not to speak up. Hua Yiyou sighed softly and shook his head. He could tell what Mo Ling was trying to do, but he wasn’t optimistic about it.
"Is it really okay to just sew it on like that?"
As he watched Feng Yuan attaching a fluffy wolf tail directly onto the Ritual Robe’s trouser lining, Mo Ling voiced her concern, considering that official Ritual Robes were different from ordinary clothes. The fabric was unique, and usually, only the larger Temples had these robes which could defend against attacks from Common Level Spirit Beasts. Thus, the Divine Envoys treasured their Robes highly.
Mo Ling had never seen any Divine Envoy treat their Ritual Robe with such casual disregard as Feng Yuan, who looked at the wolf tail and said with satisfaction,
"What’s the problem~ Isn’t it just fine like this~"
As Mo Ling looked at the wolf tail on the back of the pants, she didn’t know what to say to Feng Yuan. Guo Huai and Mo Li weren’t very interested and left after toying briefly with their hats, while Hua Yiyou seemed even less inclined to participate.
Mo Ling, holding a colorful petal dress with a pair of butterfly wings on the back, asked,
"Wouldn’t this be a bit strange?"
"It’ll definitely be strange. You could move the petals to the cuffs or collar as decoration. The way you have it now..."
Feng Yuan said helplessly. The blessing ceremony was meant for adding some Spirit Beast features to the attire, but it wasn’t a costume party, so there was no need for anything too bizarre. Feng Yuan’s Ritual Robe only had a wolf tail added to the pants, and instead of a hat, he fashioned a pair of wolf ears.
As Yao Yin added snowy fluff-like charms to her own clothes, she said,
"Don’t make it too complicated. Just look at her to understand."
Yao Yin said and glanced at Wei Ding Wu.
