Chapter 522: Chapter 523 Forward Route_1
"So soon?"
Mo Ling was somewhat surprised, and Feng Yuan said with a slight smile,
"This isn’t really fast. You shouldn’t underestimate the destructive power of Divine Beasts. If they restrained themselves any less, the King of Great Yan’s palace would have probably been gone by now."
"Should that Tribe be just ahead? Have you communicated with them yet? Don’t get mistaken for enemies~"
Mo Li glanced at Feng Yuan and said,
"Someone has already made contact with them. We’re just going there to gather some living supplies and won’t be staying overnight. They’ve agreed to it."
"A village on the cliff... It doesn’t seem to be the Tribe where Luo is."
"This region has many wild beasts, so for safety, they prefer to build their villages in places ordinary wild beasts can’t reach."
Listening to Mo Li’s explanation, Feng Yuan, recalling the Tribe Luo was in, said with a slight smile,
"I think I might have guessed what type of ’Divine Beast’ they have protecting their Tribe~"
Mo Li glanced at Feng Yuan but didn’t engage in the conversation. In his view, it didn’t matter what the other Tribe’s ’Divine Beast’ was, since they weren’t going there to fight, and there was no need to probe that deeply.
"Speaking of which, why does Great Yan seem so small?"
Guo Huai asked, puzzled. After all, in modern times, the jurisdiction of Maomu City, including the counties under it, would take a lot more time to cross. It takes half a day to travel from Maomu City district to Cha Mu Town, and that’s if riding a Spirit Beast on the Beast Path. On foot, it would take three to four days to complete that stretch of road.
Feng Yuan glanced at Guo Huai and said,
"What are you thinking about? We almost grazed along the border of Great Yan without going deep into it."
As Feng Yuan spoke, he waved his hand, and a topographical projection of the terrain appeared before everyone. The Cangyun Mountain Range was marked on it, and looking at the undulating terrain on the projection, Guo Huai realized he couldn’t recognize any of it.
Seeing that Guo Huai still didn’t understand, Feng Yuan sighed, lightly tapped the projection, and green dots along with names appeared on it. Guo Huai had an epiphany when he saw those names.
"So the Cangyun Mountain Range isn’t the one where Cha Mu Town is located."
"You could say that, but the mountain range where Cha Mu Town is located is an offshoot of the Cangyun Mountain Range. The main range is to the southeast of Cha Mu Town, which is the direction we came from."
"In fact, we didn’t approach Cha Mu Town at all but passed by it. Lei Tan is here; this is the currently inhabited area of the Tribe we’re in, Great Yan is here; we are at the northeastern border of Great Yan."
"To enter Great Yan, we’d have to go southwest, but that’s too troublesome. The path is difficult to navigate, and it’s far from the sea. It’s better to head straight out to sea from here."
Looking at the terrain on the projection, Guo Huai said, somewhat puzzled,
"If that’s the case, why are we heading south? Couldn’t we reach the sea faster by going directly east?"
"You must be out of your mind... To the northeast of Yongning lies Zhen Nan, and directly to the east of Zhen Nan is the Dinghai Domain, which is the Third Prince’s station. Although he’s not there, having them go through that place..."
Scratching his head and blushing, Guo Huai said,
"I didn’t know that."
"Besides, we’re not truly heading all the way south. If it wasn’t for the detour I was considering earlier, we probably would have taken this route."
Guo Huai looked at the endpoint marked by Feng Yuan. A line started from Yongning, winding its way south, not long before turning southwest towards where the Poison Mush forest was located, then heading southeast again before going straight east to the sea after leaving the territory of Great Yan Country.
"Go through Nanyu?"
"Yes, Nanyu has a weak strength and almost dares not openly meddle in the murky affairs between nations. It’s relatively safe for us to pass through there."
Mo Li nodded and said, this route, except for the detour to the Poison Mush forest, was decided after discussing with others.
"What exactly is Nanyu Kingdom like..."
Guo Huai was somewhat curious; he had only visited the King of Great Li’s city, Yongning City, and Zhen Nan City at this time point. Although he had wanted to study the local Tribes when he saw their unique attire in the Poison Mush Forest, he didn’t have the ability like Feng Yuan to ensure the team’s safety when deviating from their planned route. Not wanting to cause any trouble for the group, he had kept this thought to himself.
Now that he learned their destination was Nanyu Kingdom, Guo Huai realized he had never come across any information about it and looked at Feng Yuan with some confusion. As Feng Yuan retracted the sand table projection and touched his lips with his index finger, he said
"Nanyu Kingdom... I haven’t checked the information about that place. Anyway, we’ll know when we get there."
"Although Nanyu Kingdom is small, it has rich jade mines within its borders. Their buildings make extensive use of jade carvings. I can’t describe it in detail since I’ve also only heard descriptions from others," Mo Li said after recalling it with a helpless tone. Mo Ling covered her mouth and chuckled,
"Brother, really, you talk like you’ve been there~"
Mo Li replied with a slight smile,
"The news I’ve heard is exactly like this."
Hua Yiyou glanced at Mo Li and said with a somewhat serious tone,
"Many pieces of information are not absolutely reliable. If it involves strategic deployments, please make sure to confirm the reliability of the information repeatedly."
"I understand~"
Mo Li answered with a smile. At this point, the trees around them had thinned out, and everyone could see the cluster of buildings on the nearby cliff. Unlike the Tribe where Luo had lived, which Feng Yuan had seen before, these Tribes’ wooden houses, after so many years of development, retained their rugged style but had greatly changed in size and design.
The Temple where the Divine Lord lived was situated at the very top of the cliff. Its size hadn’t changed much from the first time Feng Yuan saw it, but the decorations had become more intricate. Every beam and plank of the rough wooden Temple was carved with exquisite patterns.
The wooden platform in front of the Temple had expanded a lot and could now be called a small square. On it stood six pillars carved with exquisite patterns. On top of each pillar, four beautiful horizontal beams extended in four directions, each adorned with a string of simple and majestic bells. Although Feng Yuan couldn’t hear them from so far away, he guessed that the sound of those bells must be beautiful and not noisy.
Below the Temple were various other buildings. Although they still had the rugged style of the Tribal Era, compared to the Temple, they fell short by a lot. If you didn’t look closely, you might think they were typical buildings from that period’s cities. Despite depending on various wooden platforms for support, many of these buildings were much larger than the Temple itself.
Feng Yuan even saw buildings that looked like courtyards and didn’t understand why anyone would choose to build such things on the side of a cliff.
Leaving the forest, the group arrived at the base of the cliff, where a fence had been erected to enclose a large open space at the cliff’s bottom. Feng Yuan observed that the clearing must have been created after dealing with the surrounding trees.
Looking at the simple fence that reached only up to his head, Guo Huai said,
"Is this fence really useful?"
"Hold back, don’t act rashly; they are not the same one."
Yao Yin glanced at Feng Yuan and said wordlessly,
"I’m neither a fool nor a madman; why would I randomly take my anger out on others?"
"What are you talking about?"
Not quite understanding what Feng Yuan and Yao Yin were discussing, Guo Huai asked with confusion. Feng Yuan looked at the wooden stairs winding up the cliff and said,
"This is the second time I’ve encountered such a Spirit Beast. I didn’t expect it to be here. What I’m more curious about is how you managed to negotiate with them?"
With a puzzled look, Mo Li glanced at Feng Yuan and said,
"When we were in the Poison Mush Forest, didn’t we rescue a group of people? Some of them, hearing that we didn’t want to have contact with the Great Yan official forces, told us that their settlement could exchange supplies with us. Is there any problem with that?"
"Strange... judging by the soldiers of Great Yan we encountered before, you really wouldn’t expect them to abduct a single person from this place."
"There should be no danger. At their level, they likely wouldn’t pay too much attention to your special traits."
"What exactly is the situation? Can you explain it to me?"
Hua Yiyou asked Feng Yuan seriously, as it would be troublesome if they had overlooked any intelligence that could bring danger to the group.
