Chapter 508: Chapter 509 Enemy’s Target_1

After a long while, Hua Yiyou crept back quietly, and upon passing Guo Huai, he did not seem surprised to see him awake. He sat down next to Mo Li and whispered,

"They aren’t marching day and night."

"So, it mustn’t be anything too urgent."

"Probably, if you weren’t here, there would have been a chance..."

Hearing Hua Yiyou’s words, Mo Li fiddled with the fallen leaves on the ground with a twig in hand and said,

"I think he is right. At this moment, our primary goal should be to deal with the threats within Great Li’s territory."

"But..."

"If we succeed, we will merely gain a bit more territory in the Cangyun Mountain Range, but if we fail..."

Seeing Mo Li looking at him, Hua Yiyou sighed and said,

"I understand."

"If we could just go with the flow, I wouldn’t mind, but unfortunately..."

Mo Li sighed and said while looking at the starry sky,

"We cannot afford the loss..."

"What’s wrong with you?"

Seeing Feng Yuan with a furrowed brow, Guo Huai was puzzled, and once again led the group around a squad of soldiers. Feng Yuan said in a low voice,

"I hope they are not after them..."

The Agunas shadow flicked its tail and said with a hint of confusion,

"What happened?"

"The soldiers around us are getting more numerous. I suspect their actions are likely related to Poison Mush."

"Really?"

Guo Huai was surprised. He had read the information about Poison Mush; the power of a poison-type move one level higher than one’s own was not to be trifled with. As he scrutinized the increasing number of soldiers at the foot of the mountain, Feng Yuan murmured,

"The likelihood is quite high. Our direction of travel is towards the Poison Mush habitat, but as we continue forward, their numbers only increase..."

"But what’s the benefit of attacking Poison Mush?"

Yao Yin found it very strange, and so did Mo Li and the others. After all, they needed Spirit Beasts to lend them their power—if you make an enemy of the other party to the point of life and death, how can you still expect them to help you?

"To eliminate an unstable element or perhaps..."

Feng Yuan hesitated for a moment and then chose silence. Hua Yiyou’s face changed as he said,

"Taming!"

"Taming?!"

Mo Li and the others looked at Hua Yiyou with some surprise. While it might be feasible for wild beasts, Spirit Beasts are not those clueless wild beasts— they have their own thoughts and resolves, making it almost impossible to tame them by force.

Hua Yiyou glanced at Mo Li and said,

"Don’t forget how Great Li forcibly annexed the land of opposing nations in the past..."

"How could it be..."

"Tribes, although banding together can better reproduce and survive, it also brings about a major weakness..."

Feng Yuan sighed helplessly and said ruefully, watching the crowd in traditional attire being driven by the soldiers,

"I guess some short-sighted noble wanted to court death, daring to cause trouble here."

Mo Li said with some nervousness,

"How strong is Poison Mush? Can we handle it?"

"What? You also wish to nip the danger in the bud?"

Seeing Feng Yuan’s unfriendly gaze, Mo Li froze and said,

"No, I just... we have to be prepared early..."

Although Mo Li and the others did not fear those soldiers, they could only hope to escape from their encirclement at best; directly confronting them was absolutely impossible. If the Poison Mush were to submit to those people, Mo Li would have to be ready to face them on the battlefield, as Yongning ultimately bordered Great Yan.

"Do you not believe that we can save them?"

Hearing Feng Yuan’s words, the Agunas shadow flicked its tail and said with some irritation,

"You could handle them all by yourself, but do you dare, or would you want to?"

"This..."

Feng Yuan hesitated, it wasn’t a big deal for him to deal with those soldiers, but the chain reaction that would ensue afterward gave him a headache. To confront those soldiers, Feng Yuan would have to use powers that transcended his current status.

And the corrective force of time was weaker on more powerful forces, so to prevent accidents from happening as a result, Feng Yuan would have to expend a lot of energy to personally rectify those changes that had deviated from their original trajectory.

This was something Feng Yuan was reluctant to do, after all, correcting those mistakes was too boring. With that in mind, Feng Yuan spoke up,

"Let’s go over and see what the situation is first, and if possible, we’ll try to help."

As the group drew closer to the habitat of the Poison Mush, the number of soldiers around them increased, and there were several close calls where Feng Yuan and his party were nearly discovered by passing soldiers.

Finally circumventing the soldiers, Feng Yuan whispered as he observed the thick green fog in front of them,

"They are courting death..."

"This should be poison fog, right?"

No sooner had Guo Huai spoken than the ding he was almost sick of hearing sounded again, and a semi-transparent sky-blue informational window appeared in front of him, which read,

"Poison Fog • Stronghold

A poison-type ultimate move that group-dwelling Poison-type Spirit Beasts are particularly adept at. Once released, it leaves a dense poison fog at the original location. The Poison Fog • Stronghold ultimate move can be stacked, and poison fog released by evolutionarily-related Spirit Beasts at the same location can also stack with each other, with maximum power increasing up to three grades but not exceeding Legendary Level."

"Target poison fog power level: Elite Level"

"Maximum number of casualties: ..."

Skipping over the detailed information about the poison fog, Guo Huai understood the implications of Feng Yuan’s words and said with some astonishment,

"They wouldn’t be so bold, would they?"

"Why wouldn’t they be?"

Feng Yuan pointed at the soldiers pushing the tribespeople around, while he and the others stood atop a tall mound, unnoticed by the soldiers below, who were trying to force the tribespeople to attack into the poison fog.

"They’re trying to..."

Hua Yiyou’s face turned a bit sour. Although he didn’t know the information that Guo Huai saw, which kept him unclear about the specifics of the poison fog, he faintly guessed what the opposite side intended to do.

Pulling out a pitch-black sickle, Feng Yuan said,

"What else could they be doing? They want to use the tribespeople to wear down the poison fog, as releasing the fog requires recovery time."

"Hey!"

Yao Yin was about to stop Feng Yuan when he already dashed forward. Feng Yuan, holding a crystal ball in his left hand, swung the sickle in his right hand fiercely at the soldier pushing the tribespeople.

Seeing their comrade slain, the soldiers quickly pointed their weapons at Feng Yuan and, without warning, formed a phalanx and pressed in on him.

"So impulsive."

As she spoke, Yao Yin’s hands produced several yellow talismans. She flung them into the air where they ignited without fire, and in the next moment, frost covered the area around Feng Yuan. Mo Li, pulling Zi Mo, said to Mo Ling,

"Stay close to her and be careful."

Seeing Mo Li charge out with Zi Mo, Mo Ling felt a bit of regret for not bringing the Hundred Flowers Demon along. Hua Yiyou kept a vigilant look around; with only three guards left beside them as Mo Li charged out, he wasn’t too worried about encountering an enemy they couldn’t handle with Yao Yin there, he just feared a surprise attack.

After a moment’s hesitation, Guo Huai said to Yao Yin,

"Her safety is in your hands."

"Really..."

Seeing Guo Huai rush out, Yao Yin, somewhat helplessly, tossed the talismans in her hand. The talismans drew a colorful trail in the sky, embedding themselves in the ground. Patting her hands, Yao Yin said,

"That should do it."

The moment Yao Yin finished speaking, the sound of metal clashing rang out. Hua Yiyou, holding a steel ruler, blocked an arrow flying towards Mo Ling. Yao Yin stared fiercely in the direction from which the arrow came and said menacingly,

"You had to slap me in the face right after I finished talking?!"

With a raise of her hand, dozens of flying swords burst from behind Yao Yin, their cold gleam howling as they sped towards the direction the arrow had come from, cutting down any trees in their path.

As the sound of the trees crashing to the ground rose, more soldiers became aware of the commotion. Yao Yin waved her hand, and beams of light arose from where the talismans had sunk into the ground, and five differently colored orbs of light rose from the earth.

"Get ready! Follow me!"

As Yao Yin spoke, she took Mo Ling’s hand with one hand and raised the other before bringing it down with force. Feng Yuan, watching what Yao Yin was conjuring up, said incredulously,

"What is she up to now..."
